What militaria do you own?

Recommended Posts

some self control so I left before I could go crazy.

I wish I had some of that sad_o.gif

BTW: Posting some for a friend, bobcatt - maybe he will post here as well.

He has....

-- Vehicles --

M998 HMMWV

M151A1 Jeep

UH-1 Huey (but a bit trashed)

-- Uniforms --

Cold War Sniper Uniform

Vietnam Tiger Stripe Uniform

-- Hats --

Russian Airborne Beret

AH-64 Flight Helmet

Russian Tanker Helmet

-- Other --

Russian Military Backpack

Yes, he has more... a lot more. I think he's going to start a museum.

He used to have....

M422 Mighty Mite

Yes, he used to have more. Not sure if it's a whole lot more, but it would have been good in a museum.

At the house here, have an original Mossin Nagant M1930. Mauser Kar 98K, and 2 SKS carbines. (One original Soviet w/ 10 round pivot mag, other with 30 rd AK style mag). My brother though has some neat toys... But they are in storage as he is in South Korea in the 2nd ID right now. smile_o.gif He has a CAR-15, a Hungarian built AK-47 (forget the Hungarian designation, or maybee it was Rumanian. Shoots like a dream though) He also has an assortment of Handguns, some shot guns, a few "fun" plinking rifles (.22) and an original M1 Garand, that was sitting in it's original storage container untill he bought it. Also each of us have several Bayonets for the weapons

Not to mention an inordinate amount of non weaponry military gear. (Fatigues, tents, sleeping bags, mess kits, knives (utility type) boots, ammo cannisters (105mm arty shell crate too) gas mask, etc. Most of it was acquired for backpacking trips in the Rocky Mountains though. Was cheap, and durable, thus perfect for the trips. smile_o.gif (though sleeping bags were not used.. much too heavy when compared tothe ultra light/ultra warm stuff that you can buy at a sporting goods store. biggrin_o.gif When you have 90 pounds of stuff on your back, you are quite gratefull when you can shed 5 lbs of "excess" sleeping bag for no loss of warmth, let alone comfort. biggrin_o.gif

Is the russian tanker helmet more comfortable than the American one? The american one seems bulkier, but probably protects better against shrapnel and hard jolts.

-Crew

lol a russian tanker helmet is comforatable but it just holds radio headset and nothing else. doesnto ffer any ballistic protection.

Question: When you are in the military, do they just give you the AN/PVS Goggles for free?

No, they issue them to you (or your immediate superior, who then hand receipts them to you). You're responsible for it from then on and have to give it back at some point. At least in the line infantry units.

I'm curious, Ofpeditor, since you're not on active duty anymore and are, IIRC, a search and rescue specialist, do you have to buy your own gear yourself, buy it from your employer, or is it given to you? I know military model M-4A1s and PVS-14s are certainly not easy to acquire in the civillian world so I'm interested to know how you got them.

That was kind of what I was asking... I see them go on ebay for $900+ sometimes...

Get to the point:

OFPEditor, where did you serve as quartermaster? tounge_o.gif

We're given guidelines from the firm as to what they will supply and what they will not.

Communications, NVGs, Firearms are all provided by the firm at either a lend-lease policy, or extreme discount to the operator. I've chosen the latter for everything here. Other items (i.e. Paraclete RAV) can be attained through the firm at a fairly decent discount as well. They do not have a standard issue of gear as the majority of the guys I'm associated with have mil backgrounds, and the majority of those have SF affiliation and background. With this, it's a general idea through admin that we know what we like, we use what works for us. Hence, we're given, in simplest terms (although far more complicated), a budget. Purchases are submitted and go under review as to whether or not the expense will be fully compensated or not. In addition to standard operations, I provide medical support, and subsequently I'm granted a bit more elbow room in what I will require.

Easiest way to put it, we understand what's a personal expense and what will be covered.

Quote[/b] ]I know military model M-4A1s and PVS-14s are certainly not easy to acquire in the civillian world so I'm interested to know how you got them.

With the personnel we have on board and having strong and current affiliations with the military, we're granted opportunities that the civilian world would not encounter.

Hope this helps?

Cheers

avon - I think the real question would be:

where did you serve the quartermaster? In that case, behind his desk for some new socks.  tounge_o.gif

Thanks for the info, Ofpeditor! I'd like to know more about your job, if only because I'm thoroughly curious, but I'm thinking that it's kind of sensitive, and that you can neither confirm nor deny any cool stories. wink_o.gif
