Halo

Recommended Posts

OK guys, lets get one thing straight:

If you are not a Xbox owner, I suggest buying the PC version of Halo when it is released.  While I am sure most of you here are more interested in realism, this game is all for fun.

We probably spend hours with the Xbox version driving the trucks head first into each other and popping ourselves up in the air.  It's just a fun game, and the Multiplayer is going to be great for the PC version.

(I am going to purchase it just for Online + Modding)

Maybey an Operation Flashpoint mod ;)

Which would absolutely kick @$$

-------------

Halo 2 looks amazing too.  They use Military tactics and everything, it's really one of the best console games ive played in a long time.

(after the release of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark)

Look at all teh vehicles!!! EEP! I bet there is more too! EEP!

Fun vehicles! You can fflllyyyyy in Muliplayer now with the GHOST!

Best bump mapping and special effects ive seen!  Awsome!

Character details are but spankingly high biggrin_o.gif

Is there any proof there will be a PC version?

They are making a PC verson. Gearbox(whos done quite a few good games) is converting it over to PC. I beleive they only started the conversion last year and it should be done either the end of this year or next. I hear its hard work and that the coop mode might not make it.

All I can really say is that I'm not interested anymore. I might pick up a demo, but otherwise its just a waste of time unless it impresses me. I've waited too long, only to have the rug pulled under me by Microshaft, and now I just don't really care.

I used to have a great time playing that in MP with my friends. We'd either just try to ram each other with those jeep things, or I'd end up sniping him biggrin_o.gif

I should have really left this thread alone... But no I drag myself in to this to try to explain why HALO is not the best console game ever. But I think I will give up about that now... Kinda like convincing fans of "Jackass the movie" that those little trolleys you use in the shops, a curb and five people is not the highest form of art ever. In other words pointless tounge_o.gif

I might buy it when the price drops down a bit, like below $5.

Halo has its place: in a living room at 2 AM, with as many of your friends as you have XBox controllers, lots of junk food, and Blood Gulch Team CTF. I honestly didn't know you could string that many curse words together. In that setting, it is absolutely the best thing that has ever happened to console gaming, hands down. Without the ability to laugh in the face of the guy you just clubbed with the butt of your shotgun, Halo will simply not be the same.

Too bad that 99% of console games converted to PC end up having either:

- 640x480 support only

- Crap controls made for gamepads

- Ugly HUGE menus and huds and other overlays and UI objects and text

- Ability to only save game on some locations

- Other idiotism ("push start to begin")

Games made for consoles also usually feel very different to PC games, as they are made more for "the whole family to play"... Dunno about halo, I have only seen pics of it and it doesnt seem that special.

I hear Gearbox is doing everything they can to take it out of the Console family. In fact, I heard in an interview they've boosted the graphics setting above 1280x1024 and reworking the controles. As well as work on the save games and things like that.

The only reason why I know this is because I spent 5 hours in a truck going to north ontario with an old PCgamer at my expense.

How soon they forget!

Most of the development for Halo was done on the PC before the Xbox even existed. Then Bill of Borg bought up Bungie and had it made an Xbox title, to give people a reason to buy Xbox. I doubt it will take a lot of work to finish it for the PC ;)

-The xbox has an adapter like the dreamcast for use on a monitor even though it will look good on a big tv s creen.

-nothing wrong with gamepads.

- haven`t played halo much to decide on this

-OFP only has one save a mission rock.gif

-other idiotisms (omg rofl rofl pc game press install to install game rofl rofl)

-Consoles are boring. Can never update them, and they are all the same. Carbon copies of eachother. What I like about computers is that they are all diverse, and they are all tweakable. Sure, its expensive. But hey, what would happen if it wasn't?

-Hate gamepads, especially Xbox. Too uncomfortable and not enough keys. I can assign so much to my keyboard. Versatility, my friends! I can get my gun out much quicker than you can click that button of your 6 times in order to get the Dematerializing thingamajicky.

-Installation a bad thing? Not for me. If it just ran on CD, it owuld be slower. On my computer, I can play without the CD as well as MODIFY my game.

- Computers are not just play toys. I can do my writing, homework, research, talk to you guys, play much better online, work harder, and the list will go on.

-Modifications, Patches, and downloads.

Yeah, I know. Xbox has this new patch thing now. But how long has it been and how many games incorporate it? IF theres a problem with the game, then it's screwed. At least I can fix any problems. Plus, I can get Addons, modifications, and neat stuff that Xbox players will never have. Hell, the internet alone is worth it almost.

-Ability to make my own games.

Thats right, if I wanted to. I can make a game using DirectX tools, C++, 3DSMAX, and everything else.

In other words: Computers are more versatile, period. I don't care what you say, I'm not going to buy a plaything. With my computer, I can do ANYTHING. I also find that most console players are just Fanboys(and girls, if there are any) and most games are just carbon copies of eachother. The computer can also play strategy and FPS games much, much, more smoother than an Xbox. Give me a mouse over a crappad anyday. As well as PC's support MUCH MUCH higher resolutions than TV's. I think the best so far is under 640x480. Oh, know anyone with a plasmascreen high resolution TV? The only reason why console games look smoother is because of the lower resolution. Edges are not as defined and are blurry.

Multiplayer? Dosn't matter to me. I have a few computers, and if my mates want to play with me, they'll have to sit down and use em. Anyways, I'm an isolationist. I hate large crowds and I don't like party's. With online play, I can play with alot more people anyways. I'm not saying internet people are better than real life people, it's just that we have better things to do than play twitch and shoot all day.

Don't care what you say, I just hate consoles period. Toys, thats all they are. Anyways, if it wasn't for computers, they wouldn't exist.

Microshaft bought Bungie during Halo production, and its clearly deliberate that they wanted to make it console only. Gearbox only recently caught the rights to port it to PC. Warin, they can't use the original PC stuff becasue it's not the final product. They have to convert everything from the Xbox copy and then improve upon it.

Give me the monster machine, not the toy.

All things ahve their place, versatility, yes, but you try doing a QCF/fireball motion in a fighting game on a keyboard...

Go on,I dare you :]

Halo is not the god of console games, imho, goldeneye or perfect dark was.

Same multiplayer enjoyability, sooner (with lesser graphics, but loads sooner) and a single player who was better (due to the unlockable cheats and extra objectives on higher difficulty settings)

Call me a heathen but i didn't like halo at all on xbox...

It's much more of a pc game genre,it started (primarily oriented towards) on pc and should've stayed there, then we would've had great halo multiplayer ages ago.

Here here! Although some companies do put more effort than that in to their conversions. Need I mention Grand theft auto 3 and the recent "addition" to it Vice city. Also Colin Mcrae3 is excellent for the PC. And I think Bungie will put a lot of effort to make the PC version perfect. But I agree, in my eyes HALO is nothing special.

100% correct Warin

----------

DracoPaladore,

I could'nt agree with you more.

However there are several things being released for both Xbox and Playstation 2 that allow you to develope your own creations.

(only not as broad as a computer can make)

RPG Maker 2, for PS2 is something I truly cannot wait for!

And OFP for Xbox (I hear) will also come with a Mission editor.

Otherwise DracoPaladore I agree...

I hate being limited in specific videogames.

Perfect Dark however completely changed the way I view every videogame should be made.

Excuse me... this just caught my eye, do you mean that there are "Fanboys" and "Fangirls" or do you mean that the console owners are either fanboys or girls? In that case, what is wrong with girls playing games?

And you obviously have not diversed yourself in the immense world that is console gaming. I find more "Fanboys" and "Kiddies" if you wish to call them that posting on boards for PC games. Sure there are a lot of immature people that buy a console then claim that console to be the best ("Fanboys") But you should read a console gaming magazine and see the maturity of the bigger mass of console players. The "Fanboys" are just simple minded and close off their views with their narrow minds. And miss a lot of great great games. Wich are in fact exclusive for consoles. I.E Shen-Mue, and Shen-Mue two. Trying to find a game with a deeper, more immersive story then those two games is hard. Sure, I spend more time by the PC than I do infront of my Dreamcast, PS2, NES and SNES together. But I still love them and the games that have been developed for them, to close all those wonderful games out from your world is plain horrible. Open your eyes, grab a controller and fly away. You will love it.

And the term you and almost everyone else uses "Fanboy" is incorrect. Being a fan implies that you burn for something with passion, "Fanboys" are simply narrow minded and shallow closing them selves off from any console other than their chosen. A gamer however disregards what platform the games are on, and enjoys good games regardless.

I am glad to hear Gearbox is doing the conversion. They made the wonderful campaigns Opposing Force and Blue Shift for Half-Life. They tweaked the game very well, adding new weapons, new maps, and updated the graphics. They doubled the polygon count on the models and animations. Very nice work.

I never said there was nothing wrong with it. I just find that there are little female gamers in both PC and console community's. Sorry if anyoen think I implied that crazy_o.gif

I'll agree, I'm sure the console have some of the mose immersive games ever created. And I'm sure the computers have their own. The reason is, I have a computer. Why spend a few hundred more dollars on a machine I'll rarely use or why buy it when I already have games, better or not, on my computer? I've played alot of games at my friends house on his Xbox, and some of them are damn fun(he dosn't have Halo, for some odd reason.) and alot are great.

Reason why I hate controls? I said once, their too cramped. As well as the fact I have to do multiple things to acheive one action. Press *button odd number* four times to get the dohickemegizer. I have severe problems using a control with FPS's. Move stick eight around for panning while using the other stick for moving and this button for shooting...so on. I just find mice and keyboards just so much simpler, more plain, and alot more easy to work with. I'm sure Joe Schmoe who's been using an Xbox since birth will have supreme experiance with controls and can whip out that dohicky in seconds, but I don't want to spend time trying to do one action. Yes, I'm lazy. So shoot me.

I'll have to read a console magazine then. I've never read one. It's like reading a How-To guid on Photoshop when you don't own the product.

Both platforms have their fanboys, fangirls, fanny's, fanaunts, fanuncles, etc. I just find that I see alot of these "fanboys" more often that I do see the more mature players. I'm sure we all encounter these people on both sides of the wire. I have good, intellegent friends on both side of the spectrum.

I don't buy consoles? Why? Because I don't need to. Why buy something when I already have this? I've played games on Xbox's, Playstations, Sega's, Nintendos(not that Gamecube thingy, though), and many more. All of them had their good selection of games. I, however, found myself more interested in the computer due to its flexibility and all sorts of other reasons.

Indeed the same thing here, I like the PC for it's diversity. But I also like the consoles because of their games consoles are made for games and thus do it great. And I too have some problems with console FPS's although I don't play them much since my genre is Japanese RPG's and racing games.  I feel that FPS's "belong" on the PC and other games simply do best on consoles. Since I could never pull of the combo's I do in THPS4 for the PS2 on the PC, it usually just ends up in one kickflip there and one heelflip there. I enjoy all gaming mediums as long as there are good games for them.

And I didn't say there were alot of "Fanboys" out there, I just implied that having the word "Fan" put in that negative word isn't right. A more correct word would be "Close minded gamer" or "Platform of choice maniac"
