George_Smiley 11 Posted September 1 Hello. ( I have no idea where to post this thread... is there are better place ? ) I'm a bit new to 3D modelling, can draw stuff in SketchUp 2016, can export directX files and import them to RC Desk Pilot and they work. ( Yes I know that is easy stuff , but it's a start. ) So I have been trying to find out where to start, only to get ERROR 404 all the time. *eye roll* Armaholic is gone. I was like WTF... Foxhound must have a back up ... right ? No? Darn... Right now I am installing the BI tools. ( side by side config error so far...) Taking little steps... I would like to create a very basic model and then add it to Arma2 OA. If I get that working fine I promise to write a "how to" ... not that anyone will read it... but hey... So I am keen to give this a go but... resources are missing etc. ( I am seriously wondering why the DEVS don't go out of there way to educate the people... but here we are, or here I am.... maybe I missed something. Other titles are just as bad... ) Yes I know it's September 2024 .... I love Arma 2 and darn it, it still works ! ( Hey I still using Win 7 on my desktop ...) So what do you all have to say ? Go here, read this, use this... etc etc? I would love to create a celebrated addon for Arma2. ( have I asked this question before? Probably... small smooth brain...) Salute ! George. Managed to look at a wire frame of a construction building. Woo! Damn, Mondkalbs maunal has dead image links... that would help a lot. If I could do work in SketchUp that would be really great as I am pretty quick in that program. and accurate ( for the basics ) . ok, well. Shoot, I guess I will be sifting through the youtube vids... Salute ! Cheers!

Devs already helped when they should have, that was years ago..., and the forum is full of information from both, Devs and the community, there is a lot of information, in any case you are lost, because the information is there, you just have to read it, (search for it and read it.) That's what the Editing forum is for, everything you need to know about editing is there, and if there is something very specific where you need help, that's when you should ask or request help. Modeling tutorials, model conversion, formats, import and export, etc, etc, are all there. you just need to search for them in the forum, or if not you can also use google, so it's faster and easier to find.https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/forum/89-arma-2-operation-arrowhead-editing/https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Category:Arma_2:_Editing https://pmc.editing.wiki/doku.php?id=arma2 Cheers

Yeah the fact that you are pointing me to a cluster of different things that clearly are "reverse distributed" .... heck. ie: the first link takes me to a sub forum with a lot of sub forums and in there is a link to youtube videos ec etc ... with no actual "start here for newbies" or "the concise manual" etc etc. I guess that the idea of tutorials for people outside of the company was a quite alien to people back in the day, why would you give away all your trade secrets? I get it. You have to search for things... I hate searching for things that should be clearly displayed in the right place. "You have search for it" means that there is no clear pathway. Imagine if you had to "search" for the fire extinguisher or ejector seat handles. Only like 20 years too late but.. never mind. Yeah I saw all those links, years ago, and my eyes glazed over... just no. But hey still here. Making a tiny squeak... We still here. Cheers. :- )

George_Smiley 11 Posted September 8 I did fork this fork this problem see here: https://forums.boahemia.net/forums/topic/289066-modeling-with-sketchup-or-other-3d-cad-programs-how-do-i/?tab=comments#comment-3533102 I'm going to bring it back to here. As darn it I am an idiot. But we all knewed that... So yes: I Drew a box in SketchUp, exported it as a .3DS file, imported it into 02 and there it is: a wire frame box. Next step is to try to do/get a bare bones, no frills, object into the Sim engine. That is where all heck breaks lose... RTFM ! George.
dalber24 137 Posted September 8 George you are making a terrible mess with the threads, continue with the original, you have to continue with that tutorial, otherwise you will not understand anything, follow the step by step, I remember that you wanted a step by step tutorial, so follow it, if you only want to see the object in the game skip the part of the UV's, textures and materials, but the rest you must do it. Cheers

Cheers Well, yes, I did/am making a terrible mess, but gosh and darn it's my terrible mess! With the threads... AFK for a while till I get some data credit stuff. Sigh and eyeroll. I dug out all my old joystick project stuff and am going to make a collective. Only about a decade late but heck! who cares. Now if only there was an Advanced Flight Model for Arma 2 .... Nose back to grindstone! George.
