Quote[/b] ]Ignorance and stupidity is world wide.

*Wipes forehead*

As for this National Geographic pole, it suffers from the same problem as the German Pole, it poles a small amount of people, wheather they are college students, or flunkies, and then bases how americans/the world, think. 6,000 people is not 30% of america, but in theory the answers of those 6,000 people would represent 30%, although it almost never does.

Whoa whoa, stop stop. No way can this be accurate.

Full result of the survey (old thread)

WHERE IN THE WORLD

Among 18- to 24-year-old Americans given maps:

87 percent cannot find Iraq

83 percent cannot find Afghanistan

76 percent cannot find Saudi Arabia

70 percent cannot find New Jersey

49 percent cannot find New York

11 percent cannot find the United States

OMG, I'm 15 years old, and still in high-school, and I can find those with no problem! The school maps still show Russia as the Soviet Union for Godssake! I do not look forward to the future.

The polls only show that people don't know their way around a map. It doesn't mean their stupid.

The first diagrams question is "Do u believe u got a full report

of 9/11 in media?"

The second diagrams poll result: "Do u believe the US-Government ordered the 9/11 attacks."

Now I don't claim to speak german, but I assume from playing OFP on german servers that ost is german for "east". why are they showing people from the east and the west in different categories?

Yes, Ost is meant to be ex-GDR.

The story behind east and west opinions is erm....long, confusing and pushed alot by medias. Im originaly west, but

have never had problems with peoples from GDR. But some germans are biased about east/west people. And its still a good story for medias. And both sides had a differend view on history ad politics for some time (USSR/NATO). My girlfriend is ex-GDR and she didnt knew about Hitler-Stalin pact in ´39. Well, doesnt matter much. wink_o.gif

Sorry, my english is a bit rusty atm, havent used it much since quitting CS.

ok, so ost and west refer to the old east and west germany because people that used to live there have a difference of opinions, not tbecause there is currently an east and west germany. smile_o.gif makes sense to me

My german ain't that great, but doesn't the 2nd question read:  "Do you believe the US-government could have ordered the 9/11 attacks?"

Amazing to see that there are nearly twice as many crackpots in eastern Germany than western Germany.

In my geography class, half the kids in the class (mostly the kids who are the wanna be thugs and the stoners) couldn't find Russia on a map...  between me and some other people trying to help them out, we got a quiz.  All it was was Asia on a map, and you had to name something like twenty countries.  To fit it on the paper everything got a little squished...  Which was apparently too much for some cracked out dipshits trying pretend they're deep in the ghetto when they're actually in white suburbia...

China, Russia, North and South Korea, Vietnam.  Five countries we should all have know.  Nearly all those little bastards (with the exception of the ones that copied off of me, or anyone who knew) got them wrong.

Most of the others botched things like India, Laos, Cambodia.  Some couldn't even get Japan right  crazy_o.gif

As my german is mostly non existent , if i use babelfish to translate the german question in english

Quote[/b] ]Believe they that US could have given the notices from 11 September to government in order

Despite the odd translation of Babelfish , the sense of the question is a "could have"

But i strongly believe that people in front of this kind question answered exactly the same as if the question was

"do you think us government ordered/planned 9/11 attack"

I don´t know if it the right time to bash 333 germans when you have some major issues at hand. Ladies and gentleman this is the news:

9/11 CIA , FBI and other funny stories

What pisses me most is that parts of the report are kept secret. These are the parts where the Saudi relation to 9/11 terrorists was handled.

Interesting anyway that Ata got a student card 6 months after he flew his plane into the WTC.

EDIT: Coverup or not ?

ep the results of the survey do seem very interesting on the point of ignorance:

Quote[/b] ] Despite the daily bombardment of news from the Middle East, Central Asia, and other world trouble spots, roughly 85 percent of young Americans could not find Afghanistan, Iraq, or Israel on a map, according to a new study.

Americans ages 18 to 24 came in next to last among nine countries in the National Geographic-Roper 2002 Global Geographic Literacy Survey, which quizzed more than 3,000 young adults in Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Sweden, and the United States. Top scorers were young adults in Sweden, Germany, and Italy.

Out of 56 questions that were asked across all countries surveyed, on average young Americans answered 23 questions correctly. Others outside the U.S., most notably young adults in Mexico, also struggled with basic geography facts. Young people in Canada and Great Britain fared almost as poorly as those in the U.S.

Among young Americans’ startling knowledge gaps, the study found that

• nearly 30 percent of those surveyed could not find the Pacific Ocean, the world’s largest body of water;

• more than half—56 percent—were unable to locate India, home to 17 percent of people on Earth; and

• only 19 percent could name four countries that officially acknowledge having nuclear weapons.

Several perhaps interrelated factors affected performance—educational experience (including taking a geography course), international travel and language skills, a varied diet of news sources, and Internet use. Americans who reported that they accessed the Internet within the last 30 days scored 65 percent higher than those who did not.

"The polls only show that people don't know their way around a map. It doesn't mean their stupid."

If you live in the US and cant locate it on a map, then you are stupid. The US has to be the third easiest country to find, rivaled only by Australia and UK for obvious reasons.

back on topic,

US congressional report says that intelligence community basically gave too much chances to AQ.

And i won't be surprised if some people would point this out as the 'evidence' of conspiracy that US wanted 9-11 to happen. crazy_o.gif

So what, Norwegians who can't find Norway on a map aren't as stupid as Americans who can't find the U.S. on a map?

Yes, I'd say that if you cant locate your own country on a map you are pretty stupid or ill educated. Or both.

However, America IS easier to find than Norway. You can just chance it. Its one of the biggest nations in the world while Norway is one of the smallest. It takes up almost an entire continent while Norway is just a small stretch of land compared to it. How hard can it be?
