TakanoFukada 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Hi everyone, This is a notice to announce that the BETA1 versions of 2 Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) add-ons have just been released online - the Ultra OWS and AMX13-SM1. Feel free to try them out !!! Please note that these add-ons are currently still in a very early stage of the beta phase and updates/changes have already been slated in for the continual improvements of these add-ons. Nevertheless, any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you for your attention. Mister 5 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Very good start! These are interesting units, the AI uses them well and they look fairly good. The textures need improvement in my opinion. I hope some infantry units are in the works.
TakanoFukada 0 Posted July 19, 2003 *nods* yep the textures will be re-worked on indefinitely... i'm trying to get the overalls right first... so i didn't concentrate on the textures yet... particularly the Ultra OWS (lolx) ... infantry units are already in the development pipeline... miles teg 1 Posted July 19, 2003 I tried them and like them alot, although the player position as the driver leaves you floating in the air above the cannon... (although that might have been mentioned in the readme... I dont' remember). Also is then AMX-13-SM1 supposed to be that small? It looks like a little mini-tank which is cool, but I'm just curious if it really is that small in real life? Also in the Ultra OWS the gunner's head should not be sticking out unless he's in the turned out position. From what I understand, in the OWS turret the whole point of it is to have the gunner inside the main body of the vehicle in order to increase his chances of survival if the gun turret is hit. At any rate, those are just some of the things I noticed. But overall it's a good beta, and a great looking website. Now you just need some Indonesian forces to fight or some other opponent. Maybe pit them against the Australian Defense Force addons. Chris G. aka-Miles Teg<GD>
TakanoFukada 0 Posted July 19, 2003 thanks for the reply Miles !!! these betas are in for an overhaul of fine tuning and adjustments... anyway, the AMX13-SM1 is INDEED a bit too small for a light tank... i haven't scale it properly yet (oops). as for the UltraOWS, hmm i'll check on the issue that you brought up soon... ta! Bluesman 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Really nice website (especially the non ofp photos in the photosection). Even more interesting would be an actual Singapore island . Though I can imagine modelling Singapore would be sorta laggy given how it looks hehe. Would definatelly need an updated AGS buildings. BM

i haven't scale it properly yet (oops). as for the UltraOWS, hmm i'll check on the issue that you brought up soon... ta! Cool. Sounds like you're on top of things. I forgot to mention in my post that the problem with the driver floating above the gun was with the AMX-13-SM1. It's not noticeable from the outside view, but only from the regular inside view as you're driving. I'm glad you'll ge redoing the scale on the SM1 also. Although it looks kinda cute like a tank for "Mini-Me" from the Austin Powers movies or something. LOL! At any rate, I'm glad to see a mod from one of the Asian-Pacific countries. I used to live in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and have been surprised that nobody has made any Indonesian forces yet (since they're one of the biggest armed forces in that region and have seen alot of combat). But the Singapore military has lots of cool of equipment and good professional armed forces so this mod is very welcomed. I used to read up on the Singapore armed forces while in the US Embassy in Jakarta where I used read old "Janes Defense Weekly" magazines and other defense journals. Does Singapore still use the A4 Skyhawk? If so your mod might consider reskinning Col. Klinks A4. For soldiers I hope your mod will include the Sikhs (Seiks?) with their big turbans and beards. I always thought it was interesting how in the Singapore military their turbans match their uniforms. Anyways, keep up the great work. It looks like your team is off to a great start! Bluesman 0 Posted July 19, 2003 I'm also surprised about the lack of Indonesian forces. I mean the East Timor situation would actually be interesting compared to the 2025th mission based on some cheesy movie . Maybe everyone anticipates Independence Lost for this topic? TakanoFukada 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Thanks - Miles - for the AMX13-SM1 driver issue... problem noted... yeah, it's a Mini-Me version for now ... lolx ... SAF is always leveraging on technology as its cutting edge, therefore we have large investments in hi-tech systems/equipment for a professional armed forces. Hey, I'm an avid reader of Janes's Defense Weekly too... Yes the A4 Skyhawks are still in use in Singapore... I've tried Col. Klinks A4... it's nice ! ta ! Bluesman 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Takano, regarding my question. Have you considered doing a Singapore Island? If not else for a WW2 mod . That would be just awesome. BM
TakanoFukada 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Takano, regarding my question.Have you considered doing a Singapore Island? If not else for a WW2 mod . That would be just awesome. BM Yes, it is definitely within my consideration of making a Singapore island... the actual development may take us into parts instead (which is more feasible) since attempting to make it in a single map would probably overload/crash the system... the reason being even though Singapore is just a small island, we are ALL CITY... densely populated with tall buildings and people(multi-racial) everywhere... do you know that more than half of our limited greenery are artificially planted? (eg. any tree you see probably didn't grow from there... we just buy a young tree and plonk it into the soil).
Bluesman 0 Posted July 19, 2003 Yeah I figured it would be overkill for OFP to do an a modern Singapore . However a WW2 variant perhaps? There was a very tight conflict between the British and Japanese there. BM
TakanoFukada 0 Posted July 20, 2003 WW2 variant? Hmm.. never thought of that before but it sounds like a good idea... Â indeed there was a great conflict between British and Japanese in Singapore during WW2 ... and halfway through, the British ran back to Britain to fight Germany ! it was until after the two a-bombs dropped by US in Hiroshima and Nagasaki that the Japanese surrendered immediately...
