SO anyways.... back to the TOW AAV-7. It's dammage levels are very realistic and it kicks ass aside from the little bug with the turret! Baghdad here we come!!!

BTW Miles...It's not depleted uranium armour...you can get DU tipped rounds but not armour.

That's not true at all. The main difference between an M1A1 and an M1A2 Abrams is that the A2 incorporates a layer of Depleted Uranium armour into the frontal arc across the turret and hull. There was also a version of the M1A1 called the M1A1-HA (heavy armour) which added this but not the other improvements (commanders independent thermal viewer, new electronics suite etc). The M2A3 Bradleys used in Iraq were fitted with thin layers of DU across the front and along the side skirts as well, and these allowed many of them to survive hits from RPG-7's which would otherwise have penetrated. Sabot tank rounds have used DU tips to aid penetration for ages but DU armour is a more recent development (relatively speaking - it's been around for several years now but in military tech terms that's not a long time).

The armour on the M1 A1 HA and the M1 M2 is still steel, but it is a highly secret mix of steel, titanium DU and other metals.

What is known about the DU properties of the Armour on the tanks, is that it is a mesh of DU wires (not like electrical wire - its much thicker), interlaced INTO the steel, which provides greater protection against KE and Chemical (HEAT) rounds penetrating the armour. Think of it like a trapeze artists saftey net - it stops him hitting the ground, by flexing and giving to absorb the shock. This was developed in a place called Chobham in the UK (hence tha name Chobham armour)

And the rounds are not DU tipped. They are a DU bar, with the fin stablisers added onto it. The idea being that the very dense DU bar can penetrate the armour with incredibly high values of KE.

Contrary to common beliefe, the DU round (APFSDS) rounds do NOT have any explosive on them, other than the propelant that fires them out of the cannon. They work on the principal of pressure - as the round passes through the target at upwards of 700 m/s it creates an incredibly low pressure inside the target, thus blowing all the hatches, all the ammo, and sometimes even the turret off of the tank - thus actively destroying it, as the ammo will explode inside the tank, desrtoyng it from the inside out. And its not too pretty for the enemy crew either - as, if the round penetrates both sides of the target, they are sucked out the 2 inch hole created on the opposite side... yummy...
