Pathy 0 Posted November 26, 2006 How come a thread about the 5th November (British Celebration) gets locked due to it not being international, yet a thread about thanksgiving (An American Celebration) is allowed, even though its not international aslo.... I'm confused about the consistancy with the forum rules here, so what gives?
Balschoiw 0 Posted November 26, 2006 I may be not getting it, but opening a thread with the title The ashes06/06 and NO content but some smileys can hardly be called a reasonable thread about anything.
Pathy 0 Posted November 26, 2006 Yeah, you aren't getting it. Different thread i'm referring to.
walker 0 Posted November 26, 2006 Hi all My one peneth worth; PHP based forums are extremely flaky you only have to look how many times OFPEC has gone down or been hacked to realise that. As to Ikonboard I have found it far more reliable. And the recent problems as have been pointed out are with the database software and hardware needing an upgrade not the forum software. In fact Ikonboard has been extremly reliable and fault tolerent. Despite the massive load Ikonboard has not failed us once during this time. Which shows just how good it is. It obvious that load is the issue and that is dealt with by upgrades to the DB server and to the hard ware it runs on. You should not confuse the DB server that holds the database with the web server which runs presents the forum to us often they are and need to be on seperate servers optimised for the two different tasks. Upgrades to the bandwidth the BIS forums use may also be called for but I dare say those at BIS will know what they need to do. Kind Regards Walker

dm 9 Posted December 6, 2006 Having just noticed that the 2003 VIP status markers have been removed, it makes me wonder a bit about the various member groups. I can understand stuff like OF Developer (tho I'm not sure why Suma and co are in "OF Forum Team" and not "OF Developer" - and surely that should now be "BI Developer" and something like "BI Staff" since ArmA and VBS are also part of the portfolio?) Also - unless O2 "2" is planned to have the same style release as O2 Light did back in the day, is the "ModMaker" group not very redundant now?
DaSquade 0 Posted December 6, 2006 No offence DM, but isn't that something that would fit better in PM ? But since you brought it up, I just hope BI knows there are many tallented persons (with old or new skills) that don't have an 'elite-mod-whatever' title (over here or in general) or contacts , but are also looking very forward to the tools. Personally i'm looking more forward to the tools then ArmA itself (tools i will be able to run and get some stuff in progress again, not sure about ArmA but will know in 1-2 days). *Deleted some stuff though . If Shin was mod here he would of skulp me . This was friendly meant, but feel free to delete it as personally don't think it fits here .
Placebo 29 Posted December 6, 2006 Modmaker group is defunct and should we ever need to use something like that again (as we have today for the CWR group) we'll move everyone off it and start something else. OF Developer has less admin rights than Forum team or whatever which is why certain people who are OF Developers are in fact in the other member group. BraTTy 0 Posted December 7, 2006 Just a note that I recently had forums problems... I went into my control panel to change my account to my new email.Something happened and I never got the email to authorize my account so I had been sitting here for days unable to post or even send a private message. In my attempts to get this fixed I had to email outside of the forums to the mods. Unfortunately Placebo was the only mod with a email displaying, all others are hiding their email. Any chance other mods maybe update their profiles for future use?

mike@uk 0 Posted December 11, 2006 Don't know if this is the right place to ask or not sorry, but I've made a SP mission for ArmA that's based around "things" that happen during the main Campaign, would it be alright for me to post it in the User Missions forum if it has the correct Spoiler Warnings, or would it be against the No Spoilers Rule? Thanks.
raedor 8 Posted December 11, 2006 If it has proper Spoiler Warnings it is okay. Don't reveal things in the title or subtitle.
Journeyman 0 Posted December 13, 2006 …. So I posted a favourable comment in the photography thread this morning and asked someone who posted pics for their specs. As a result of this I get a warning level! ...LMAO! I am a member of many forums and for the life of me I have never seen such an overly moderated board anywhere else ever! OK I know you are trying to keep things running smoothly and clutter free and I appreciate that it can be a frustrating job in such a busy forum, but for the love of god why are some of you mods so trigger happy? So I forgot to check the first page of the thread just in case there were some special rules relating to it (which I now know there are), but some of us have got busy lives and cannot be running through every detail every time we want to post just in case we are contravening yet another hastily applied rule!  Boy oh boy! Even when you try your best to keep your fingers clean they still get caught!
j w 0 Posted December 13, 2006 Well, no we got a seperate Photo-thread, and a seperate Comments&Questions-thread (yeye, I know I missed it ), so we're supposed to ask questions in the questions-thread, and post the pics in the photo-thread. Just like it's been the past years in the OFP-section of the forum. So I forgot to check the first page of the thread just in case there were some special rules relating to it (which I now know there are), but some of us have got busy lives and cannot be running through every detail every time we want to post just in case we are contravening yet another hastily applied rule! That's not an excuse. Simply registrating to these forums obligates you to read and fully understand rules. Wich should mean the seperate rules of single threads also. JW And now for a question from me: The Report-to-moderator-function; in what ways can we use it? I understand that I can report offensive posts, posts with unappropriate links and all sort of stuff, but can I use it for lock-topic-requests, move-topic-requests, delete-post/topic-requests etc? Where do you cut the line? P.S. And I also understand that whatever we send through the report, it should be info enough for the mods to know what to do, no need to enlighten me there Again JW
raedor 8 Posted December 13, 2006 @Red kite: You're one year around here. If you didn't get that it is forbidden to post comments in the official CP threads: I can't help you. We're quite strict in the CP thread(s) as if we are not, people will never get it. Everywhere else we're quite "trigger resistant", it has to become very spammy before we react... @J_W: Use RTM whenever you want a mod to do something (of the things you noted); you can also send a PM, but RTMs are faster as you bother every mod with it
