Guest Posted June 19, 2003 Hello everyone, This is my last post on this forum. After this is posted, I will delete my account and I won't be coming back. But first I'd like to give you an explanation of what happened. Three days ago I was involved in an exchange with Avon in the "Death row" thread. That thread has been moved now to the moderator's forum but I'll give you a recap of my statement later with a full explanation. Avon took offense from my post and she contacted Marek (BIS) and made a complaint. From there on this issue evolved to this point where I'm resigning as moderator and quitting as member. The issue was if I had violated one of the very rules that I was responsible for enforcing upon others: §1.1 of the Board Rules: Flaming. Initially Marek demanded that I issue Avon a full apology or face "sanctions". In the end, after discussions with other moderators the end "deal" was that Avon gets a week's PR for her contribution while I post a brief general apology to the forum members. I cannot do that because I am convinced that I did not do anything wrong. I do not regret my words and apologizing to you about it would be lying to you. I am not willing to do that so I choose to resign instead. So what was that statement of mine then? It was posted in a thread relating to the installment of a death row for the prisoners of Guantanamo bay. She was defending the camp, and this was my reply: I'd just like to add that it doesn't surprise me one bit that you approve of the camps. On the contrary it is consistent with your complete lack of respect for human values that you have displayed earlier. For a proponent of ethnical cleansing these camps most likely look like a very good idea. Personally, I'd be embarrased to treat a gold fish the way you think it is ok to treat human beings. An explanation line by line: Quote[/b] ]1) I'd just like to add that it doesn't surprise me one bit that you approve of the camps. She is defending the camps and I'm not surprised. 2) On the contrary it is consistent with your complete lack of respect for human values that you have displayed earlier. Refers to the next sentence. 3) For a proponent of ethnical cleansing these camps most likely look like a very good idea. In the Mid East thread she advocated the moving of individuals of an ethnic group against their will, away from Israel. Also known as "population transfer" which is by textbook definition a type of "ethnic cleansing". Ethnic cleansing is defined as (NATO hadbook of Balkans 2001 ed.): The practice of moving, separating, eliminating, minimalizing, or marginalizing individuals or groups of individuals with whose skin color, national origin, culture, language, or religion a nation-state disagrees. Population transfers that she does advocate is by textbook definition ethnic cleansing. It's considered a violation of human rights by the Hague, the ICC, by the UN... you name it. If you force a group to move out from a territory based on their ethnical belonging you are eligible to be tried for crimes against humanity. Those are not my inventions but the moral codex of international justice. A person that advocates ethnic cleansing or "population transfer" does indeed have a complete lack of respect for human values. If somebody beats up innocent people and I call them "criminal", it's not flaming, it's the statement of a fact. 4) Personally, I'd be embarrased to treat a gold fish the way you think it is ok to treat human beings. I really would not. Well, enough about that. I thought just that I should let you know why I'm leaving. A few parting words: Please listen to the other moderators as you have been listening to me. They are good people with a real sense for justice and a great love for the community. I'm proud to have had them as colleagues. Finishing this off, I would like to thank everybody here for making my time here so enjoyable. Being a part of this community has been an invaluable experience for me. I have learned so much on these forums. A lot of it from direct input from other members but also from induced inspiration to seek out information and facts so that I could participate in discussions that are on a remarkably high level. I have met people here that I agree with in almost everything. I have met people here who I entirely disagree with and they have often through intelligent arguments made me rethink my position. In all, I would like to say that there is a remarkable collection of interesting, intelligent and dedicated individuals in this community. And I will miss you all. denoir out. Col. Kurtz 0 Posted June 19, 2003 Your one of my favourite members with some of the best opinions, but it is good that you are standing up to your morals and won't apoligise for something you don't think you should have too.

blackdog~ 0 Posted June 19, 2003 This is a sad day in OFP board history... losing a well-known member of the community... and a great contributor to many different aspects of OFP. This is including the Koeinsigegegisegsis racing car, his first OFP addon... and later for the Chain of Command, the CoC Torpedo pack. This makes me wonder, what you will do now denoir. If you will continue with OFP, or move on to another game, continue with addons, or stop altogether... Either way, you will be greatly missed by the forum community. Koolkid101 0 Posted June 19, 2003 So, what is up with CoC is he still gonna be in it? Even though his Liberal Views annoyed me he was a good moderator. Â Also comon its a Off-topica thread!
FSPilot 0 Posted June 19, 2003 You probably don't even want to hear this from me, but you will be missed. You gave the whole community hours and hours of stimulating and entertaining conversation. Even though I hardly ever agreed with you, or what you said, you made me look at my own views like nobody else has before and I respect you for that. God bless. Major Fubar 0 Posted June 20, 2003 I know you and I have had our differences in the past, Denoir, but lately you and I were more often than not on the same side of the fence. You will be missed...
bn880 5 Posted June 20, 2003 Well, I certainly wasn't expecting THIS. Of course you will be grately missed here, but I don't personally blame you for sticking up for what you said. However I don't think you should have removed your account, giving up moderator status seems like a just "punishment".
Koolkid101 0 Posted June 20, 2003 Really bad news :/ Are you gonna put it up on your site?

DracoPaladore 0 Posted June 20, 2003 I am very sorry to see you leaving. If you were someone to look at as an example of a fine forum member, it was you. I will miss you greatly. You are a good person. You have been a valuable asset in this forum. I can only hope that I was considered a good person in your eyes. You were really someone to look up at. You've helped shape my views and made me look at my own opinions and views, making me analyze my mistakes and help me along the way. Good luck, and may the long journey ahead bring nothing but bliss. Warin 0 Posted June 20, 2003 [/moderator hat off] I am really sorry to see Denoir leave. Â At first I thought he was some liberal pinko commie, and totally thought he had his head up his ass. Â Then I realized that he was indeed something of a liberal, but certainoly did not have his head up his ass. Â I've always know that when he makes a point on a controversial topic, I'll end up thinking about it more often than not. Â I may not always have agreed with him...but I've always respected the hell out of his commitment to his views. Â And so while I think it is a sad thing that he's leaving... I am always glad to see someone that will stand by what they believe, even if it means sacrificing something they enjoy. You will be missed by a lot of us Denoir. Â And I am truly sad that you felt the need to leave. [/moderator hat on]
