scott che 0 Posted June 8, 2003 resistance crash on my computer not really randomly. It's a long story : I have ofp, ofp gold add-on and resistance. They are all officials (and not so cheap) versions. Before the 1.90 patch ofp crash one time a week (a very good window's software crash rate). With the 1.90 the frequency become 1 time a day (a normal window's software crash rate). So i update all i can : sound card, video, the famous VIA chipset drivers. Nice ! Some of my others games (like Europa Universalis 2) who had little crash problems worked perfect. But my "one of the 10 best game in the history of computer games" (ofp is a shorter name) still crashed. All stay this state (1 time a day is an acceptable crash rate). The 1.91 path arrived : Installation, play, mission edition and ... crash. Again : play, mission edition and ... crash. Again : Play and ... crash So after 10 minutes of pure adrenaline and running/crashing : Scandisk, defrag, windows update, looking for new new Drivers, reading Forums, trying 1000 combination of drivers, directx version, complete software reinstall with and without addons, complete windows reinstall (one of the 10 best in the world, when you love you don't count), again drivers combination, directX 8,9,10,11, etc..., etc... And you know what : except for the other games i used for testing the configuration nothing change : running, playing and suddenly crashing. Other things i try : cut off the antivirus (nod 32), cut off the firewall (zonealarm), remove the sound drivers. All those things didn't nothing. It still crash. How it crash : when i am in the editor and click the left button of the mouse when i am in a game and click the left button again when i do absolutly nothing - no key press, no mouse moving, nothing - (multiplayer waiting stage or main screen for example) it crash in about 2 or 3 minutes. When i play it works longer. I can play sometimes 2 or 3 missions before it crash. The editor is the less stable function now. When OFP crash it's a very clean exit. I can rerun the game immediatly, there is no zombies dll or other dirty things. It has no impact on the stability (it crash at the same speed) and i can run any game i want after it crashed. On the flashpoint.rpt the adress of the crash point (a nice new name for my favourite game) is never the same and they are not in the same "range" (like a randomly crash). The system : 98SE/SBPCI128/GEForce4MMX440/Athlon700/128Mo/5GO free for the swap if ofp need it/DirectX9 not usefull but i don't want to go back to 8.1 it changed nothing All the drivers are now up to date. All the other games i used worked perfect. Only OFP crash and it never happened this frequency before 1.90 and specially before 1.91. I have a theory (certainly the only bad thing i do with the reinstall) : i reinstall OFP/OFP gold addon/Resistance and then put the 1.91 patch. I didn't apply the 1.46 before the installation of Resistance. I don't think it is related but if it can help you to help me... When i launch resistance from the cd or from the shortcut it is the same. I AM NOT HAPPY AND I AM NOT GOING TO PREORDER OFP2 NOR BUY IT IF MY OLD OFP IS MYSTERIOUSLY AND SUDDENLY BROKEN. Placebo 12 Posted June 8, 2003 What motherboard do you have? Don't think you mentioned it in that amusing but sad ramble
scott che 0 Posted June 9, 2003 what a vicious question !!! it's an american megatrend but the manual in on the back of a box that is in the back of a cupboard, so i don't remember the serial/version number. Maybe if i reboot 10 or 12 times i could read it on my screen . If you seem it's mandatory i will find this "saloperie" (french naughty word) of manual. The mouse (i forgot it) is a logitech with a little wheel and one thousand buttons - very usefull in OFP - plugged on a PS2 mouse port. Anyway nothing had changed in my hardware since i bought the geforce 4 and at this time it worked well. The motherboard was still here for ofp, red hammer and resistance. My theory is that the protection system is running bad. The program act as an unofficial version but it's not. Is there any checksum verification or something like that on a "unreadable track" ? My cd is old (bought the game the week it was in stores), very used (25 hours a day), and maybe it's broken on a track only read by the protection system. I can't validate this theory cause the missions are too short and i don't realize if the fading system running (i play so well too ) BIS team members i know that you can't answer this kind of question about the protection system, but if my theory is good is there any solution (you can mail me the answer ) ? I think about the protection system because as i said, the crash is very clean and didn't affect the stabilty of the system. It's strange for a random crash specialy on a windows 98. Placebo 12 Posted June 9, 2003 Each patch comes with a built in checksum thingy to verify the important files when you try to upgrade it, perhaps you could do a clean install and start afresh with the patching, that may show if there is any problem with your CD, a smidge time consuming but you can backup all your crucial stuff beforehand so it's not like you'd lose any saves or downloads
Guest BratZ Posted June 9, 2003 I suspect a possible flaky mouse (especially plugged into ps2 would make a crash rather than a usb one) And what is your AGP aperature set at in bios? 128 ram and a mx video card I would use 16meg or less on that setting
scott che 0 Posted June 10, 2003 i made a mistake with the mouse. It's on the usb port. Anyway this post gave me an idea. Now i use the logitec driver. Yes i have lost the left side button and i have to play with two hands (hard brain job) but it seems to work. Now the question is : how can i have OFP working with my left side double click button again ? And of course with a non crashing OFP ?
theavonlady 1 Posted June 10, 2003 Now i use the logitec driver. Have you tried Microsoft's standard drivers instead? Quote[/b] ]Yes i have lost the left side button Very strange.
scott che 0 Posted June 10, 2003 it crash again. With the logitech driver the game run longer. I was too optimistic. I used the microsoft driver before 13:00 hours to day. what you think about that : crash in mission : Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 00515A39 Version 1.91 Fault address: 00515A39 01:00114A39 C:\PROGRAM FILES\JEUX\CODEMASTERS\OPERATIONFLASHPOINT\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE file: c02battlefields (__cur_sp) world: eden crash in mission from the mission editor : Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 01B61E35 Version 1.91 Fault address: 01B61E35 01:00040E35 C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\D3D8.DLL file: Mission1 world: Cain crash in mission editor in "edit mode" : Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 18BAD74C Version 1.91 Fault address: 18BAD74C BF:00436BAC file: world: Cain crash in the main screen : Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0053921A Version 1.91 Fault address: 0053921A 01:0013821A C:\PROGRAM FILES\JEUX\CODEMASTERS\OPERATIONFLASHPOINT\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE file: intro1 world: Cain again in the editor (but it's ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION not ACCESS_VIOLATION) : Exception code: C000001D ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION at 00681EC3 Version 1.91 Fault address: 00681EC3 01:00280EC3 C:\PROGRAM FILES\JEUX\CODEMASTERS\OPERATIONFLASHPOINT\FLASHPOINTRESISTANCE.EXE file: world: noe is there any link between all those crashs ? Now i have only OFP/RedHammer/1.42Patch(reinstall all yesterday)/Resistance/1.91 patch no addon, no modifications, OFP is like a baby the day he was born. I noticed there is always disk access "before" it crash. But it could be the flashpoint.rpt writing, so i don't know if it's related.
blackdog~ 0 Posted June 10, 2003 Try reinstalling Direct 3D from Microsoft and if you haven't already, get new drivers from either the manufacturer of your video card or the chipset maker (nVidia). What sound card do you have? At least your problem isn't as bad as when my computer majorly screwed up, I press a key and the mouse froze...
scott che 0 Posted June 11, 2003 The sound card is a SB PCI 128. With the original driver it worked well, with the new one it worked very well I made update of the driver before it began to crash. So i don't think there is a link. Quote[/b] ]At least your problem isn't as bad as when my computer majorly screwed up, I press a key and the mouse froze... How it began : When you patched OFP or it suddenly appear ?
Greg 0 Posted June 11, 2003 If I plug my Logitech MX700 into PS2 port, WindowsXP blue screen crashes with this message: MULTIPLE_IRP_COMPLETE_REQUESTS bug check has a value of 0x00000044. This indicates that a driver has tried to requested an IRP be completed that is already complete. So it doesn't seem to be the same problem as you are experiencing. scott che 0 Posted June 11, 2003 IT WORKS !!!! few weeks before, i had some cooler problems, so i had clean them and remove the CPU to do this. The coolers are dead again (they are too old after 3 years ). So again, i remove the cpu and clean them. One of them was very close to cables and pushed on them. I remove it and you know what : I play OFP for a full hour. Thanks to the god of the computer voodoo !!!! Anyway my computer is up to date now. And i can wasting time again on the one of the 10 best games ever made. Thanks all, good luck to the others my advice :buy a live chicken and sacrifie it, it can help
