Quote[/b] ]lets not take commercially succesfull artist as the Intellectual spearhead of society

good point. there are a lot of different "smarts". book smart, communication smart and etc. So it's really hard to make a list of who is intelligent or not, without consideration for many "smarts"

The education system usually is designed to help most people, not to cater extreme smarts or not-so s.

I really don't think kids should underestimate the value of education. certain member recently made a slight mistake with math, which resulted in my a bit excessive reply.

American public school system basically prepares students for the basic minimum neccesary knowledge. I'm not sure about other states, but California has "Stat-9" or something like that which tests if you have basic skills like writing and understanding certain instructions and basic mathematics. Those were so easy, even kids in ESL didn't have that much trouble.

clearly, the internet was built by nerds, and many things are built by those who excercise great deals of knowledge. just that unlike rock stars who get spotlight, they stay quiet most of the time.

yes, so personallity is not neccesarilly related to intellectual level. I've seen some great personality despite low level of education and vice versa.

Famous dropouts (in random order):

Albert Einstein

Bill Gates

actually Einstein was a smart guy. Just that he did not confine himself to schooling system. Heard that in graduate school, he was skipping class since it was boooooring. For many ppl out there, as a graduate student, I can tell you it ain't no picnic to begin with.

Bill Gates got into Harvard and dropped out at his own will, and also made program that was bought by school and city while in hgih school. he is a classic nerd.
