Yeah, even though it's a fileplanet download, it's well worth going past all the crap to download it!   These addons are really good!  Perfect when you and your Royal Marine mates need British airsupport.  The Su-27 is also a beautiful and powerful bird, while the Mig-21's are nasty little buggers.  smile.gif

Pretty nice, as other people have said textures could use a little more detail, but still not too bad. Maybe have better sounds for the guns, and a few mroe versions w/ different armarment.

First things first - the bandwidth was exhausted at the

Freewebs site some time on Friday night. As I only access the

site at work, there was nothing I could do. Thanks to all

those who provided mirrors. I'll try a different free server for

the re-release in order to keep them up for more than 24

hours.

Re-texturing is going on, and I'll start a new thread here when

I've got something to show (probably end of this week).

Specific Q&A:

HotShot: I can email the Jag and piccies if you like...

Wardog: Yeppers, I'll fix the Jag tailplanes asap. I may put

rocket pods onto the inner pylons for A2G.

The roll-rate is okay-ish for me, and taking it up too far

makes the plane un-flayable with the mouse. I'll try to find a

happy medium.

Miles Teg: The Infra-Red Search and Track dome got lost in

a cockpit re-mesh. I'll add it back.

The nose gear looks strange if it's too long, and I kinda like

the nose-down on runway bit.

Sounds are not really going to change too much as I don't

have too much in the way of sound tools, but I'll see

if there's anything I can do.

The free-fall Bucc is a very dangerous plane in the hands of

the AI: it's just a pity that the danger is spread around to

anyone within a 500 metre radius. I've had a little success

with upping the skill level of the plane, and arranging the

waypoints to get a nice bomb pattern, but the LGB plane is

so much better...

Well, the Archer is a very effective missile. I may have gone

a little bit OTT with the missile manoeuvaribility, but the

Flanker should be a dangerous plane...

SAAF Bucc - I wanted to do this, and I'll try to fit it into the

re-release, but if not, I'll definitely get round to it later.

Gunner seat for Bucc may happen, but I'll have to learn a

little more on mod format.

DKM_Jaguar: Compliments from DKM members are much

appreciated...

CFBASI: As are nice words from 1982:FitF. If you need the

model or any other bits and bobs, let me know.

edc: Any suggestions for loadouts? I've always thought it's

better to have a one or two versions that have both A2A and

A2G than many versions with slightly different weapons. Plus,

of course, there's the one-proxy-weapon-per-plane problem.

AvonLady: It's like the number 9 bus, you wait all for hours

for one, and then three turn up at once. Nice

cockpit, and a spur to improve my efforts (as you may have

guessed, my current Su27 cockpit was crunch-code.)

I'd just like to add that these planes would not have been

possible without Brsseb's tutorials. An excellent resource

for first-time mod-makers.

Kewl!! It sounds like you're on top of things.  As for weapons loadout.  A jaguar with rockets would definitely be cool... but if you can also get one in there with bombs that would be extremely nice.

Also, for the Bucaneer free-fall bomber... one idea is perhaps to replace the free-fall version with a LGB version that simply has more bombs but using a different model perhaps?  At at rate, it's no biggie as for now I'll just use the LGB version for AI pilots.  Also I'm really glad you're also working on a SAAF version.  I wish a map maker would make a map with wide open flat desert/savanah type terrain for African missions.

As for the sounds... I've done a bit of .cpp sound editing and I have the audio editing software needed to edit samples.  I'll try playing around with it to see what I can come up with if I have time.

At any rate, keep up the excellent work and thanks for the reply explaining everything.

These addons are some of the most exciting aircraft I've seen in awhile since that F-111 came out.

Hey footmunch smile.gif

Theres a Jaguar here from flight sim 2002 that might help with some of the textures (help give an idea of what they look like).

Might help wink.gif

jagtg007.gif

All the textures are in .bmp format so you dont need FS2002 to look at them. Of course, seek the authors approval if you are going to use any of the textures smile.gif

Rubishy???  I would definitely not call this pack rubishy.  Sure it could be better, but the models are great, they fly well, they fight well (when flown by the AI or the player), and they provide badly needed aircraft to both the British and the Russians.

I don't know why you assume that the addon maker will make worse versions.  As far as I'm concerned he can make as many updates as he feels like.  I'd rather see multiple updates rather then waiting for months just for one update.

Heck I'm still waiting for someone to update that Antonov An124 cargo aircraft that came out a long time ago.   sad.gif

Also OFP is NOT, I repeat NOT a realistic aircraft simulator!!!

I don't know how you could say that.  The aircraft part of Operation Flashpoint is designed to be simplistic and easy to fly rather than try to be a true flight simulator.   The same goes for the tanks.  OFP is not a true tank simulator. OFP is primarily a infantry simulator.  It is in the infantry simulation that OFP is very realistic in many respects.  The vehicles in the game simply give the ability to simulate combined arms operations in a way that few other games achieve.

So please don't slam his hard work on these addons because the rest of us really love them and he has not been rude to anyone.  I really like how he is very open to feedback and while he can't please everyone, he at least listents to our opinions on his addons.    What he needs is constructive feedback and encouragement not people calling his addons "rubbishy".

By the way, those types of bombs are in real life called "retarded" bombs. They contain fins that deploy and "retard" the airspeed of the bomb.

I second that

its good to have your facts before you go ranting.

this is a great pack and I HIGHLY appreciate the work being done.

Yes I agree as well. I am extremely impressed with these addons, and also with the fact that Footmunch has released 4 good quality addons in one go, when lots of mods take ages just to release one. Great work! biggrin.gif

Crippler

P.S- footmunch, if possible, maybe you could try making the texture files bigger (e.g. 512x256 rather than 256x128 etc) because it would really make a difference in quality- especially on the little Jaguar, where big textures squashed onto the little body could create really high levels of detail. Admittedly, this would make the file size bigger, but I think it would be worth it smile.gif Just a thought smile.gif

People get spoiled. This is why they rant and complain.

I just think its a great set of planes that need some new texes.

Good work so far smile.gif

You're allowed not to like the mods, but if you think there are

improvements to be made, then could you post them? If they

still don't come up to specification after that, then I guess

you'll have to avoid downloading them. This is, after all, a

beta-testing process.

If you actually find the term retarded offensive, then I guess

I could rename them high-drag, unless there are any

transvestites that would object to that.

BTW, OFP is anything we want it to be. The genius of the BIS

addon/mod model is that we can individually tune the game

to be as silly or hardcore as we want.

The addons are goin good so far what I have noticed is basically all aircraft need a new paint coat and the bombs on the bucannier look a little cartoony.

Hey easy lads!

DEFENCE MODE

i was just saying that if you make a addon just remember its full potential. e.g "yes im going to make a Realistic M4,dont bother there are to many" I remember somone had just got a xms and renamed it an M4.

I did not say the pack was rubishy i said some M4's are, its just the textures need to be improved and maby add some scripts like the hornet.

I also did not say that OFP is an air or tank sim just a combat sim. I dident know the bomb name was correct sorry.I said that before because somone had copied a oficial plane and added isulting names instaid of real ones.

I noticed one of the planes cannot retract its gear and it has no wheel textures.

Luv the Jaguar, hmm maybe the cockpit needs a little tuning here and there, textures need a bit clearing.

the Mig21 is perfect! really.

i made a small naval dogfight with your planes on the enemy(4 mig21 , 2 su27) side and 2Harrier(1me) and 2Tornado on the other. ew

...well your planes lost but they make nice moves, the rockets need to be a bit faster i think and have to do more damage.

all in all nice planes! wink.gif

Guest jacobaby

Sorry for crashing the topic without reading it all.

The air museum I live next to has a Mig 21.

I have a couple of cockpit pictures if you would like them, with the possibility of getting others maybe.

The Mig is undergoing restoration...

PM me if interested.

Now, THIS is one badass Flanker!! Really looking forward to it's release! smile.gif BTW, Are those missiles static, or detachable? Or are you going to make the AA-10 missiles detachable and the AA-11 missiles just for eye candy (or "tube-launched")? Remember that the Flanker has only 150 cannon rounds and fires in bursts of ten rounds!

i like the way the planes fly, and is there any way to make laser guided bombs guided by themselves. because most planes these days dont need a designator

Laser guided bombs ALWAYS need a designator, but modern strike fighters usually have a built-in designator. What you must have in mind is GBU-30 JDAM GPS guided bomb, which homes on the target by itself.

A slightly closer look at the Bucc's pedigree: it's a 60's

plane that served with the Royal Navy, launching from the

long aircraft carriers (when we still had them). The primary

role was to fly at around 50m above ground at

near mach 1, and deliver conventional or nuclear weapons

on infrastructure points well behind the front line. This role

is now being performed by cruise missiles such as the

Tomahawk.

When the carriers were scrapped in the 70's-80's, the Bucc's

were given to the RAF, where they continued to serve up

until the mid-90's.

The whole idea of laser-guided munitions only appeared in

about 1980, and they couldn't kluge a laser system into the

Bucc.

The TIALD (Thermal Imaging And Laser Designation) pod was

fitted during Gulf War I, and the Bucc buddy-lased targets

for LGB equipped Tornados and Jags. I guess this could be

do-able in OFP, but I haven't got the time or scripting skills.

The Bucc also saw considerable service with the South African

air force during the Angola/SA/Namibia conflict, which I believe

will be covered in OFP-2, so we may see a BIS Buccaneer

before too long...

PS: Thanks to Jacobaby, but the Mig 'pit is the one I'm most

happy with, and I don't think there will be too many changes

made in version 2.

*ahem* Laser-guided bombs aren't as new as some people think. They were first used in Vietnam. One particular mission, where LGBs were used was the bombing of Paul Doumer bridge.
