praetorian 0 Posted April 21, 2003 Hey all, I have a plane I am making and it's guns are 3 on each wing. Is there a way to make it look like all 6 guns are firing off tracers? I don't want the tracers coming off only one point on the mesh. It is a WW2 era aircraft and this would look rather silly. The reason I ask is because I have looked at a couple other addons they seemed to have this problem. Hopefully, if it is an engine limitation, there is a way to get around it. Also, why do people still release jet aircraft and not address the fact that the jet engines are missing the burn off/jet blast? Wasn't there a tutorial on this in the past? Thanks! AXE 0 Posted April 21, 2003 You can't have multiple tracers because you can't have multiple guns in OFP, it is an engine limitation. You could definetly make a workaround for it, it would just require some scripting and some clever cpp work. As for jet exhast, I guess the mod makers just didn't bother doing it
Guest BratZ Posted April 21, 2003 6 tracers? Did WW2 aircraft have tracers? Glowing hot bullets? I am no weapons expert at all,and for sure my plane is one that you may be talking about. Well i only left the tracers for now to make it easier to see where you are shooting,i plan on just shutting off tracers and having 6 gunflashes As we cant have 6 firing points, but can set the multiplier and rof to achieve a simulated 6 gunfire You dont want to camcreate or createvehicles outta 5 other firing points, that may be a mess, dunno There is possibilities of doing what you are asking And for the jet exhaust, a modmaker puts what they want, it is not needed to operate ,asides none of the OEM Bis planes have it either Just an eyecandy feature ,along the lines of smoke Klink came up with the idea after many planes had been released And my Zero will be neat,it has 2x7.62 and 2x20mm and i have to alternate the flash depending on which weapon they are firing If WW2 planes are supposed to have tracers,I also have the same problem as you
AXE 0 Posted April 22, 2003 I found this by using a quick google search: Interesting WW2 facts: ------------------------ It was a common practice on fighter planes to load every 5th found with a tracer round to aid in aiming. That was a mistake. The tracers had different ballistics so (at long range) if your tracers were hitting the target, 80% of your rounds were missing. Worse yet, the tracers instantly told your enemy he was under fire and from which direction. Worst of all was the practice of loading a string of tracers at the end of the belt to tell you that you were out of ammo. That was definitely not something you wanted to tell the enemy. Units that stopped using tracers saw their success rate nearly double and their loss rate go down So not all ww2 planes had tracers I guess, although almost all ww2 sims i've played have tracers. praetorian 0 Posted April 22, 2003 Cool, thanks for the quick responses. Very interesting article! I am used to seeing the tracers from some flight sims I play. It probably wouldn't be that big a deal to leave them out. Just the gun flashes will have to do
