As a preview, we are delighted to release the list of features and known issues.

As always we CANNOT GUARANTEE that this list is completely accurate, but it's a start.

Please take the time to read it, as it will enhance your game time when the MH47E is released.

MH47E /MH47E cargo  New Feature list readme.

In order to enable the helicopters to be a more intuitive part of the players team, especially for single player missions, we have added several useful features. The use of these is explained below. Available features are in BOLD type.

For maximum playability, assign yourself as Team Leader, with an MH47E in your team.

Altitude 25M

This will have your AI Pilot fly at 25m average height. Unfortunately it does not seem possible to get the Pilot to fly higher, so be aware that the 25m will remain through the rest of the mission. Once you have specified ALTITUDE 25M in conjunction with HOLD POSITION, more features will be available to you.

Hold Position

The leader of the helicopters group, or the pilot, will have the option to hold the position of the helicopter. This feature will then enable other features once the helicopter has come to a complete halt.

As the enemy will engage the helicopter, use HOLD POSITION in a safe area.

Your door gunner will leave your group while this is activated, and rejoin you on release.

If the Pilot is a human player, they are required to bring the helicopter to a stop manually.

(Using Auto-hover and freelook together can help with this.)

Once HOLD POSITION is active, you will be able to use the following features;

Release Harness

*******************

This feature will let you move around freely in the back of the helicopter, where you will be able to shoot, snipe, reload, or BAIL OUT from. (Bail out over 55m only).

This feature is safe as long as the helicopter is stationary. If the helicopter is going to move be sure to FASTEN HARNESS first.

Fast Rope

When the helicopter is at a safe height (< 30m) you will have the option to FAST ROPE.

Group Fast Rope

*******************

Similar to above, but your AI team will fast rope from the helicopter. Other human players in your team must use the individual FAST ROPE option above.

Fast Insertion

****************

The Group leader will have the option to quickly insert the whole cargo crew of the MH47E, including any AI not in his group.

Land Helicopter

******************

The Group leader will have the option to order the immediate landing of the MH47E.

Extraction

************

The Team leader will be able to use the action menu to call an MH47 on his team to his position and pick him up. There are two options DAYLIGHT EXTRACTION and NIGHT EXTRACTION.  To use this feature, press the appropriate F-number key, then '6' for action, and then the desired action.

Group Bail

Safer option to get the whole team to bail over a target.

Emergency Bail

*******************

This will give the opportunity to bail out at a lower than 50m height. As in real life, very low insertion heights are fraught with danger, so there may be casualties & accidents.

Use Door Gun

****************

As it says. If your door gunner is a casualty you will be able to take his place.

To Pilot's Seat

****************

As it says, should your pilot take a fatal bullet, you will have the option to take his place.

Fast reactions are needed....

CARGO HELICOPTER OPTIONS

We are pleased to introduce a brand new feature with the MH47E Cargo.

The ability to properly transport other vehicles in the back of the helicopter.

At present you will be able to transport a Jeep, and a Jeep with Machine Gun, and the BAS KLR 250. We have several more vehicles planned for inclusion in the system very soon, including a small stowable boat.

Credit for the original idea goes to ROM. Big thanks to him for his input, and we wish him well with his Universal Cargo System, which you may like to check out in the near future.

To use this feature do the following.

Drive your jeep into the back of the CARGO version of the helicopter. When you are in the correct position you will have the option to LOCK DOWN CARGO. In the case of motorbikes, they will be stowed in a large crate, up to a maximum of 10 in the crate.

Any AI in the jeep will be automatically moved into one of the TEN available cargo seats. The player will have the option what position to take. Now the following options will present themselves.

Cargo Release

Releases the cargo.

Cargo ParaDrop

******************

While it is preferable to land to release the cargo, you will at an appropriate height (50m) have the option to unload the jeep by parachute.

This option is included more for convenience than realism.

Cargo LAPE

Similar to above, this will pull the jeep out of the back of the helicopter by parachute at low altitude (<25m) and speed (<50kmh)

Attach Cargo

***************

Both helicopter versions will have the ability to sling a vehicle underneath. You can activate this option by hovering very low over the intended slung load.

The option to ATTACH VEHICLE will appear.

The type of vehicles that can be slung are limited, and are only provided for convenience. The MH47E is a Special Operations helicopter, rather than a standard workhorse Chinook.

The following type of vehicle can be slung underneath.

Jeep,  JeepMG,  5T Truck, 5T Open Truck, Humvee, 5T Ammo truck

Additionally, only vehicles LOCAL to the helicopter can be slung, which will mean in multiplayer games you may need to command your AI to enter the vehicle before you can lift it. Vehicles with other human players in will not be able to be slung. This is because the effect does not look good.

There is a speed limit with the cargo, it will be announced to the player at the time of attaching cargo. Breaking the speed limit will result in loss of the cargo.

OTHER FEATURES

There are several other features included for your playing pleasure.

These include a custom version of the rotorwash dust, exhaust fumes and damage effects, full destruction effects and other realistic effects and lighting options.

The MH47E has sophisticated defense equipment, we have simulated this to some extent, as no doubt you will see, or try shooting one down with an AA rocket..........or venture into shilka patrolled neighbourhoods.....

If you have ever crashed into the ground while map reading you may appreciate the vocal warning....

You will have a "LAND" option if you are team leader, which will cause the helicopter to land as soon as possible. If it is midway through a move command, it will pause for a second or two and then move on.

For mission makers we have also provided a "Crashed" model, available in the editor. This model illustrates a hard landing, and you may like to use it in some scenario's.

To prevent the annoyances caused by multiple guys "playing" with the ramp in mid air, and due to the fact that you can only safely half open the ramp at speed, the options to open the ramp will be limited to the crew and the leader of the helicopter. For any operations requiring an open ramp, it will be automatically operated.

For mission makers.

To enable the range of effects in a MP game you can paste the following line into the INIT field of each MH47E that you add to the mission;

Dust Colors

1 = Desert (lots of dust)

2 = Nogova / Malden / kolgujev (limited dust, suited to such Islands)

3 = Ia Drang / Vietnam (lots of red dust)

4 = Winter / Snowy maps (white snow clouds)

Other variables settable to alter the effects are;

NODUST = true

This will turn off the rotorwash dust effects

BAS_FREELOOK = true

This will disable free movement ability inside the stationery choppers for all units except the player local to the chopper. Our tests showed varying degrees of acceptability and appearance, and so this option allows the mission designer to choose. For more information contact TJ.

BAS_REALISM = true

This will disable the options to Paradrop the cargo from the helicopters, and the low altitude emergency jumps. These features are really meant for aeroplanes, and so discerning mission designers can disable these options. This will also give control of the ramp fully to the pilot, and he will need to open or close it as desired.

The whole of the ability to move cargo is wrapped up in the BAS_Cargo.PBO. It is quite feasible for others to add to the list of vehicles that can be slung underneath, or indeed placed inside the chopper, and that may be something you would like to do.

We have done it this way for our convenience in the future, and to allow the talented to add what they desire.

However, there are a few factors involved in the internal cargo models that are not immediately apparent.

Please note that we will not be able to provide support or help or advice or answer any questions relating to the adding of extra vehicles to the list from individuals. It requires advanced modelling and scripting techniques. Of course, in order to progress the OFP community, queries from serious and recognised Addon Teams and recognised individuals are welcomed.

We hope this is the start of a whole new element in OFP addon making, and are proud to be leading the way.

KNOWN ISSUES

Calling HOLD POSITION is better over flat terrain, as height detection depends on the terrain below. This may cause Fast Roping team mates to slip and fall.....

On the EXTRACTION, which can be called by the team leader, the AI Pilots sometimes decide to do their own thing....but I guess you know OFP by now...

And on the FAST INSERTION, the AI Pilot will occasionally lose patience....

The cargo sling is configured to only pick up local objects. This is due to the way it looks ingame. You can make an object local to your PC by getting an AI member of your team to board the vehicle. Human players cannot be used. It will also appear jumpy  to remote players.

The EMERGENCY BAIL  option is fraught with dangers, use it as a last resort...

MP missions not configured as described above may experience brief lag effects upon destruction of the helicopters, follow the readme to prevent this.

From time to time, the Jeep in cargo area may be displaced.

The motorbike first loaded into the Helicopter will determine what type is unpacked, so its best not to mix desert and woodland bikes in a mission.

Certain other hard to track down anomalies...

er umm.. cant wait for the "Fast Rope" and "Group Fast Rope" options in my menu... how much i will love the MH60 when it is available also.. and umm about those littlebirds.. any scripts coming with those to make them land on deck like they do in real life.. so it doesnt take them 30 seconds to land like they do in OFP:R?

he he, thats a massive readme. I see you decided to go with all those options?? i cant wait to paradrop the jeeps, and i have been waiting for the underslung option for ages. Maybe someone, maybe BAS [??] could make a standard "workhorse" Chinook to... concentrate on the features you added for convinience. I appreiciate that you are putting this in for playability, and you wish to concentrate on the SF side of the vehicle. Maybe you, or another team could do a standard chinook with more of these options? Would you be willing to share your knowledge of what you have there already to another team who may wish to make an option-filled cargo chinook? I would like to use this with an RAF chinook and a couple of Ladrover 110's, or a light field gun underslung [or maybe a scorpion inside/ outside tounge.gif] BTW, call it coincidence, DKM is making landrover and scorpions...

LOVE your addon already. Well done.

Wrong forum and wrong thread. This should have been posted in the Addons & Mods Discussion forum since it isn't released yet. You also have an existing thread there. Don't be greedy.
