F-22 raptor!

Recommended Posts

Wow looks great but the problem is the engine can't incoporate half the features the f-22 portrays in reality. But it would be a awsome addon to bad the USAF arn't getting that many of them

Remember that F22 has its weapons in internal bays instead of underwing hardpoints! wink.gif

Are they actually using them in combat?

The Super Hornet seems to be the newest combat fighter that actually went into Iraq for example.

They're getting more of them than the entire number of aircraft in most airforces! They're ONLY getting around 600 confused.gif Man I sure hope they can cope with that few

I think the F-22 was being tested right around the time the cold war wrapped up to match whatever the Russians were bound to produce next. When the USSR fell, there was no real need to stick a bunch of F-22s into service, becuase the current fleet of cheaper, F-14s, F-15s, F-16s, and F-18s were completely up to snuff when it came to dealing with whatever threats remained in the world.

No sense in putting a bunch of F-22's into service when the older cheaper planes we allready have are sufficient to handle a dogfight with the current fleet of russian migs.

I guess now we can allways crank up the testing and start rolling them off of the assembly line when/if the need arrives.

Maybe there was a typing error and the F-17 accidently became the F-117?

The YF-17  "Cobra" was Northrop's competitor to the YF-16. Obviously the YF-16 prototype won the bid and entered production. The YF-17 was then further developed into what would become the F-18. This is why not all aircraft designations are sequential.

*edit* some wrong info smile.gif

so im lead to believe it was sort of a decoy, to confuse the then Soviets or anyone else for that matter, though to be honest ive never actually seen an "official" reason as to its Fighter designation
