About time I added something new to this thread. Just a bit of "atmosphere" stuff, but it does make a difference. Little white rocks, made in 50x50m squares and triangles. Much the same as forests, except they aren't configged the same way. Also the LODs are set up so that they disappear at about 400m on highest visual quality settings...so they don't produce much/any lag  smile_o.gif

Lookin good, though there might be a few too many rocks.

It might have been mentioned, but is there any chance that we'll see any kind of rendition of the Iraqi air base "H3" with its hardened/underground aircraft shelters?

I dont think many home computers are up to rendering an island containing all of Iraq.

The two islands I am making are not specific areas of Iraq. It just isn't possible to get 7.5 second DEMs (Note...7.5 second DEMs...I know larger are available, but they are basically useless). So they are ficticious....but in the right "flavour". One is almost flat, the other has some mountains and flat.

The rocks will only be on the land texture that you see in the pic....it just matches in nicely, and enhances the look of it all. This texture makes up roughly 15% of the flat island and about 10% of the mountains island. So it's not a huge drain, and won't be over-used.

As for H3...well I'm not basing the airfields from that one, but trust me, I have all the pics from that site. And yes Hardened Aircraft Shelters (HAS) will play a big part. Underground ones won't...there's just too many problems associated with doing that. sad_o.gif If you flip back a couple of pages you should see a couple of pics of the HAS. It's basically done, and you can repair at it smile_o.gif

Actually both. The rocks are white-ish, and fit wonderfully with a couple of the land textures (see recent news pic at our home page), but they are being rather strongly illuminated by the headlights. There were rocks like this all over Iraq....limestone fields, millions of small white-ish rocks IIRC. smile_o.gif

I would hate it to stop cars and tanks cos it be so crappy.

I have tried getting passed it with a car and it works correctly (But its still quite slow if you dont accelearte quickly)... Let me try with a tank!

Any chance you guys will release any kind of demo or anything soon? At least a vehicle or two or perhaps a map demo? A map beta would be cool because that way mission makers could start making missions on the map with exhisting US and Iraqi addons.

Its not really possible. Just to release an island would consitute around 180mb, and that's not even with the 512x512 land textures. Then there are the inevitable problems that will occur when the full mod is released ("do I delete the demo" etc etc). We want to release a finished quality package, I'm sure you understand. smile_o.gif

There are a couple of basic conditions of use. If you have enough respect for my work to use these textures then please also respect these conditions.

1. You may modify these textures in anyway you need to fit your own textures. That's what this pack is for.

2. You MUST place these textures inside a pbo that conforms to the OFPEC TAG system to avoid any potential conflicts.

3. You may modify the names of the textures as you wish, but you MUST make sure they begin with "rw". This is to ensure that OFP will recognise them as runways (unless for some reason you don't wish this to happen??).

4. You must credit me in your Read-Me (not much to ask really...).

5. You may use only the textures you need and throw away the rest to keep your release smaller. You DO NOT have to distribute all 92 files.

6. You may re-combine textures to form new textures as you like. However please CHECK CAREFULLY that you are not making a texture that is already in the pack, and that the yellow "dashes" down the centre of the taxiways are lined up correctly. DO NOT ROTATE THESE TEXTURES!!!!

For a good example of how to use this pack please look at Tonal Island by BAS. The runway textures are from this pack, the pbo is tagged and I was given a thank you :-)

Well enough pics and discussion by various people convinced me to change the doors on the HAS. So far I've been able to find pics of 5 distinct types of HAS used in Iraq...not counting the more temporary style buildings. Anyway ultimately this one seems to be most common....so here it is.

3WX are putting together models in packs for everyone to use, OPGWC is a total mod. There's quite a difference.....I should know, since I'm on both teams wink_o.gif
