Hey all,

I used to run OFP on my windows 98 machine, after upgrading to 2000 pro, multiplayer does not work anymore. I can not connect to anyones server on either Sockets or DirectPlay, games like Americas Army and well, EVERY other games I have works fine. crazy.gif

Anyway, Does anyone have any ideas why i can not connect to any servers?, btw I'm using 1.91...

Thanks!

How would I check that?  And if it was on, wouldn't my other games not work also?

I'm rather confused and new with 2000 so if you could explain how to check ICF I'd appreciate it!

Just saw that, what happens when i JOIN is this:

Connecting to server failed.

When i HOST a game everything works fine, but reportedly the people connecting to me get the same error...

Taken from the XP helpfile (should be similar)

Open Network Connections

Click the Dial-up, LAN or High-Speed Internet connection that you want to protect, and then, under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.

On the Advanced tab, under Internet Connection Firewall, select one of the following:

To enable Internet Connection Firewall (ICF), select the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box.

To disable Internet Connection Firewall, clear the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box.

Yes I believe so, no more updates avaliable from Windows Update website so... (and I can be certain I installed that seperately anyway... so..)

What exactly were you asking that for?

Sorry for late reply, its been crazy.gif lately lol...

i upgraded mine from 98SE to 2K, and IIRC I reinstalled OFP just to make sure.

some games might be a bit picky and run on either 9X or ME platform or 2K/NT platform.

also, do you have a firewall?

No, but I have a router... Do i have to foward any ports to PLAY? Never did before... odd... I'm confused... Unless 2k did something to my computer int he way of a firewall i never had one before so... i dunno...

If you have a router/firewall, you WILL have to configure them properly in order to play. You'll have to open the OFP ports, and forward them to your system.

Actually this isn't the case.  I foward all ports etc. and I still can not connect to server, here is a short story:

My friend and I were trying to play, I was hosting.  If I did not have the right ports fowarded then the list would not even show my game.  After fowarding he could see the game and join.

Same with 2000, foward the ports, he can see my game, but gets the same error (when he tries to join my server) that I get whenever I try to join a server: Connecting failed!

See if you can figure that out!

------EDIT------

If you want to give me all of the ports the game uses, just in case, please go ahead. I would appreciate it! (possible a port used in 2000 that isn't used in 98?)

QUESTION:

Does OFP have any problems with DirectX 9.0a? I wonder if thats been my problem all along?

If it does, while you're at confirming that... can you tell me how to downgrade DX? Is it even possible?

I dunno if 2k has Internet Connection Sharing or not , but I had similiar problems when I was the ICS server using either XP or 98se.

Before you harp on me, I did see he said he had a router, but might be running ICS to share internet with a pda or something like I have done.

Installed XP on a different hard drive, configured everything, and it still doesn't work... Connecting failed. so i know its not 2000! ... this, mind you, was from a CLEAN install of XP from a freshly formatted hard drive and everything!

Ports seem to not matter even if i DO foward them i still get the Connecting Failed. problem... does anyone have any ideas?!

Not really ,I havent ran 2k in forever. But I do know in XP that when you make network changes it keeps turing on the ICF.

I see that you have been explained how to turn it off.I just want to point out that XP keeps turning it on.

seems like your internet setting is culprit, but can't tell much. confused.gif

try this to see if taking router out of the way work. i.e. have internet connection directly to your PC and see if OFP works. since you have XP, make sure it is turned off too.

Negative on the XP, it was just a trial disk I got to test it out... kept freezing my computer anyway so I reverted back to this hard drive (with Windows 2000 on it) so i DOUBT its internet firewall... i'll try the setup with the cable modem when no one'll get pissy for me unplugging the network soon smile.gif lol... If that doesn't work anyone think they'd be up for a challenge of helpin' me?

Plugging the cable modem directly to the computer should let you know if its the computer or router

Can also set that computer as dmz host on the router if you cant easily connect the cable modem to it,but I dont wanna make any bad suggestions and have you get hacked or something, but setting it dmz host is similiar to plugging it directly.

I can't offer much help with 2k,but I can help with the hardware
