M249 and loaded ammo ?

What happens with the loaded ammo in M249 when you exit an encounter ?
I enter the encounter with 240 ammo and when returning alive only the “spare” 40 is left in the inventory.

Are the 200 rounds loaded in the weapon minus shots fired, returned or lost ?

To answer your question, yes!

I believe the rounds are automatically put back in to your existing ammo.

Double check and check your rounds before a match, leave and see if those rounds are put back in from the loaded weapon.

Indeed high capacity weapons like this should also be on your loadout prior to leaving an encounter it’s a great way to bank extra ammo while keeping that bag space for actual exp gaining loot 👀😉
