Micky Nub 6 Posted May 1, 2022 Seems like the AI NPCs can see through bushes and grass. At times I keep getting shot and no AP NPCs are in sight. I am not very good at playing Arma 3, so I use the Novice setting ... but the setting makes no difference. Is there a mod that tones down the AI NPCs abilities? Farmaros 1 Posted May 2, 2022 Yes, the AI's visibility is not limited to cluttering the terrain. They can see through bushes, fog, and smoke.
Gunter Severloh 4052 Posted May 2, 2022 Please review the facts and myths about AI visibility on my list here more specifically the AI Detection categories. The subject of AI visibility is very misunderstood by those people that fail to realize that once an AI see you via LOS or through audible influences coming from you, they will track you for a given amount of time. Alot of infantry based players i've played with, or come across in Arma dont seem to have a protocol, or procedure they follow, a standard, a what if and when, and or tactical plan of movement and shooting or a way of doing something a way or form of doing something, ya game limits are one thing but basic shooting and movement can still be employed in a way that works in a tactical way that is conducive to the situation. They are like a stick in the wind and get blown around accordingly and are basically winging it even if there is an objective, thats not to say everyone doesn't have skills, or tactical ruleset, or procedure for which they operate in terms of movement and shooting, but in this game one's perspective can be clouded based on whats being understood and or perceived to be detection, all a noob in this game sees is the ai see me, thats fair enough, now lets go into that what is it that is enabling them to see you aside the fact they are seeing through bushes, and other vegetation. Working corners, doors, openings, how to move to and from cover, how to use cover, knowing the differences in terms of best type of cover based on material density, layout, structure and avoidance, among other things. Ya this stuff takes time to learn acquire and put in practice, in theory get good at something and that is cover to start, regardless of where or who the enemy is unless your in a mission where its meant that you need to be stealthy or infiltrate and kill without being seen or heard then there are things that must be understood and actions that need to be taken into account to how you employ tactics in stealth or what have you is going to be successful. So outside of the game's player settings, understand that a mission design can have set the skill of ai depending on their role or in general, so via scripting or simple code AI skills can be elevated or lowered to a desired level that suites the mission designers plan or vision for their mission. Another influencer is mods, what mods are you using if any, if its strictly new assets then, lets consider the types of weapons the ai are using. weapons with scopes, binoculars, attachments with zoom, optical sights that provide a decent visual field vs iron sights. Yes AI skill in spotting, hearing, and accuracy do play a big role in their ability to detect you. Take this code for example _x setSkill ["spotdistance", 0.5]; if that number goes lower then 5 the AI's ability to spot you is reduced, their range is limited, if you set it to 0 (zero) they are blind ... visually. They can hear though, so its not about just whether the AI can "see" you through bushes, trees, ect,. its how they are detecting you in general. I mean if you hear something even though you cant see it, would you not turn to face the source of the sound? Of course you would because you would want to "see" what it is, but if you cant, and lets say you did have a weapon, you were in a war, you heard maybe the enemy would you shoot, probably not unless you could confirm it was enemy. Get the idea? Take a look at this Wiki page on Arma 3 AI Skill https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_3:_AI_Skill Wiki page shows the various things that influence the AI's ability to detect you, what levels ect,. Its not all black and white where they ai just see you through the bushes, there are factors you have to take into account on your own accord not the enemy that could enable them to see you, so you cant just complain and say they see me through this and that. Need a mod? i haven't added it to my list in my previous post yet but take a look at this one and see if it helps, in reality the clothes, gear you are wearing would also inhibit the AI from spotting, seeing you through vegetation and whatver, ideally imo this is realistic and not replicated in the game so next best thing is a mod Dynamic Camo System https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2800081814
