Smith & wesson .50-caliber magnum

Recommended Posts

Who the hell want's a 50 caliber revolver/pistol? It hurts after a few shots - it's heavy - and expencive!

Even a 44. is a bit over the top actually.

I'd say the 357 magnum is adequate enough - and I like it very much!

Well, let me clarify myself.

They are "packaged" differently here.  You can buy just the Mk23 pistol...OR you can buy in a so-called "SOCOM" form (which essentially just includes a very nice soft case that has velcro enclosures for magazines, and a silencer)

Hmm...actually, it goes for around $1500 (retail) here also.

machineguns, silencers, short barreled rifles ect. (they are considered Class III weapons by the BATFE...requiring you to go through special "red tape" to own.

2.5-3" seems kinda a big group to me.

Personal record with my 92FS on a 25 meter range is 44.<span id='postcolor'>

LOL...I meant meters (you know,...here in the US, some things are measured in SAE, and others in metric....So, the meter is often incorrectly called a "yard". Im pretty bad about that...the range is marked in meters though, not yards.)

biggrin.gif

And my quote was "easily" shoot 2.5-3" groups" (meaning basically "casual" shooting, without much effort)

I am perfectly capable of "making all the bullet holes touch" though...

tounge.gif

I usually shoot "tactical rapid fire", just more fun to me.

You would end paying more for a upgraded USP than a factory Socom<span id='postcolor'>

I know, I was just trying to point out the similarities wink.gif

Im sure you will be very happy with your new "SOCOM"

This means theres extra background checks and stuff on you, since Class III weapons are: silenced guns, machine guns, assault rifles, automatic stuff, etc. I think .50 cals also count as Class III.<span id='postcolor'>

Not 50 calibre, they are not treated any differently than any other rifle...

Although Sen. Diane SWINEstein (D. Calif) is sponsoring a bill to try and classify them as such.

As far as "assault rifles",...depends on who's definition of "assault rifle" you use.

If you use the correct, Military definition...Yes, they are Class III (because "actual" assault rifles are select fire, so they would be considered automatic weapons)

BUT if you use the incorrect, B.S Brady Bill definition of "assault rifle" (meaning semi-auto, AR 15s and such)

No...they are not Class III.

hey hey! she is OUR senator! watch your attitude or my CZ makes a good 10 inch group/pattern at 25feet!  tounge.gif

i really don't think this will be classified as Class 3 weapon. it's a handgun, and a freaking revolver. although it uses .50 cal, i don't see anything other than a badly thought handgun.

If we're not talking .50 cal pistols, then I can see her point.

WTF does a civilian need with a .50BMG rifle? tounge.gif That's overkill even for an elephant!

Before you call me a pinko gun hating nut, let me just say that in general I am very much against unilateral gun control - but some common sense does need to prevail. wink.gif

Umm....I can get any silencer I want here also, without being "hassled by the cops"

Just have to follow the proper BATF procedure (which really is not all that bad)

Oh,...and I can get a full auto M4, MP5, UZI, ect. ect. to screw the above mentioned silencer onto the end of.

You know, you never know when you'll have to defend yourself against a light armored personnel carrier smile.gif better safe than sorry lol.

But seriously, it's a very solid round for target shooting, it's got power, range, ballistics, everything. In addition it's a really fun round to shoot- loud and proud. Also, the overkill argument also applies to a reverse viewpoint: .50 caliber guns are completely impractical and overkill for criminal use, and because of their prohibitve cost, it is unlikely you will ever see a .50 caliber firearm being bought by anyone but a person with the intention of using the firearm responsibly.

when I think about, the biggest difference overall for the handgun itself is the mil-spec slide if I'm not totally mistaken.

I was told I could buy the mil-spec slide separately (or seal-spec slide if you will tounge.gif ) to make it the "complete" SOCOM.

That mil-spec slide is the one Navy Seals use (makes the gun operable under water too. But I'm not going fishing nor do I intended to make holes in my bathtub biggrin.gif

I believe the Mk23 with the milspec slide and Knights silencer (mil-spec silencer) turns the gun into a "SOCOM" (what the navy seals use).

Anyway, I expect I'm going to be more than happy with the Mk23 out-of-the-box-version smile.gif

Maybe add adjustable rear-sights and that's it.

Edit: btw I heard the Knights silencer is a class III silencer and therefore some extra paperwork from my dealer is required to get it out of the US.

That means that the delivery-date is somewhere betweem 2 weeks and a year (meaning noone knows when it will arrive) confused.gif

You could be right about that...When I looked at a "SOCOM" package, I assumed it was just a Mk23 with the added soft case, ect.

But It very well may have had a different slide on it.

Actually, in the U.S. ALL silencers are Class III.

Im not sure how the export would work though. (Ive never had to export anything)

BTW, Knights Armament is about a 30 minute drive away from me, in Vero Beach. Florida.

Cool smile.gif

Feel free to put one in an envelop and send it my way biggrin.gif

I'll have to try and not think too often about the silencer and eventually it will arrive smile.gif
