ARMAHOLIC website not working

Recommended Posts

I have still all the addon I downloaded for OFP,-Armed Assault- Arma2. Around two years ago I gave all the OFP stuff at my disposal to Foxhound to be implemented to Armaholic since he was building an OFP section as well. There was little stuff in the OFP section at that times. But in the end it has never been implemented. Too much work too many addon I guess.

If everything goes wrong and we can't find a solution I can give all the stuff that I have on my hard drives. It's mostly addon and missions - campaigns. I have little to no scripts. Most probably my old OFP archives contains the most stuff. But there is plenty of stuff for Armed Assault and Arma2 as well.

This is just too bad!!!! 15 years of modding community content not available anymore for the public, it makes me shudder just thinking of how much stuff was on ArmAholic.

I hope a solution can be found.:soldier:

Forgive me for misunderstanding, not really what i was meaing to say there i believe i have misinterpreted what Foxhound

said in the light of the situation and what he has in his possession, and i agree as it would be wrong to sell the mods and content

as they were not his to begin with.

On that note i think we need to find out what would he deem to be an acceptable offer or inquiry to give it to someone thats what

i would like to know.  Maybe someone he may know who would understand how to handle, work, or know what to do with

the database and is trustworthy?

Better to take the whole thing on (even with a cost)  put aside your gripes about ownership and get a speedy resolution.

Think i would agree with this because, until Foxhound responds we dont really know what he wants for the database structure

itself that contains the content.

They were willing to host people's content and they were paying for it.

Yup, this is the same as i do for my website for the Iron front community whats left of it anyways, i still pay every 2 yrs for the domain, i still pay

a host to have the website and i been doing that since October 2012 with no return other then maybe a few donations over the years but i do it out of the love for the game,

although im working on something that will make that free 😉 but regardless.

That's the biggest mystery IMO in this whole mess: if reason for closing Armaholic is only financial, Foxhound could simply say that few months back: "hey guys, I'm running out of cash, can't support AH anymore".

I must agree, he could have at least said something, if it came to that i would have surely pitched in to get the site back up or maintained while the

powers that be transfer, it would be the right and fair to have said something before it came to a point where you are unable to pay or maintain something or even just tired of it,

and we all know that like we are gathered here discussing this, amazing as this seems that the issue would be solved because the love for this game we call Arma.

11 hours ago, Αplion said:

ok it is not possible to gather everything without AH database etc

Yes and no, but JerryHopper is doing something.

a massive list of all the mods that are missing, missions, scripts, i've already done that but just for Arma3

https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/199884-addon-mod-compilation-list/

at least for the following subjects Arma 3 Gear, Arma 3 Packs, Arma 3 Miscellaneous even if i had never got around to linking a section

i still have the exact mod names listed as i had copied every name in those sections and then went back and grabbed the links for them all

as i added them.

A seriously time consuming process which imo would be best to just get the database which also has

Arma1, arma2, Arma2oa, and Arma3 content even then, that was done up til end of 2018, so were missing 2 yrs of new content that

wont be there from any of the games, i would say primarily Arma 3 had the most new content to Armaholic.

As for scripts that would be at least AI related on my AI compilation list, which some are still linked on the forums here.

11 hours ago, Αplion said:

so why not to build a new website - database, at least, keeping what we have now, on public view, by an easy way?

There is what Jerryhopper has for arma1 and arma2 so far but i dont think thats all of the mods and missions

http://ftp.armedassault.info/armad/

I would start a crowd funding type thing now @Gunter Severloh I’m not sure if it’s going to turn into a bid war or not but if you get things started we can start the funding process.

Its a good idea but i think aside what JerryHopper is doing, i think its best to wait and see what comes out of the inquiries to Foxhound and

see what and if he responds, i think from there we can make a better decision on whats needed.

If he can just respond then we have something to go by and as a community at least to those here who have congregated and are actively discussing i think we all can agree

on the best decision once we get some more information and details.

@nettrucker

there is still OFP's sites here

Arma 1 mods

Arma 2/oa mods

Arma 3

Best way forward is to wait and see what files are needed to build the data-base.

I looked at dropbox for uploading a number of arma 2/oa islands. At the speed of upload I have here, it will take quite a while to get them onto dropbox for people to access (these are all either 7-zip or winrar).

I feel it would be better to wait and see what is missing/needed. Although I'll probably keep putting various arma files up there over the next days/wks.

the WaybackMachine is slow, as im attempting to download all resources from there. i'm at file 57378 of 155025 and this is day 2 since i've started.  i assume it would take another 2-3 days before complete.

Meanwhile, ive written a parser that extracts addon information that's listed on the armaholic.com/page.php and from armaholic.com/list.php
Prolly tonight im gonna create the database so i can start importing the addon-data.

Since im downloading ALL of the archived content, its really tempting to rebuild a 'minimal' armaholic frontend so that the Armaholic 'feeling' will be preserved too...

I'll keep u posted

EDIT:  Yes, i have contacted info@joocoo.nl.  No, i havent got any reply yet.

No reply here either. Sent two mails on both that joocoo.nl and his private gmail.

Wayback machine is horribly slow, but without Jerry's approach, gathering all the information would be much, much more slower. And painful.

I keep my fingers crossed for your, Jerry and W0lle, efforts in contacting Fox and creating a list of missing content. Until that's done, there's really not much the rest of us can do for now.

For what it's worth - I just checked, and I only have 5 GB of Arma 1 content on HDD, and 18 GB of Arma 2. Mostly popular (easy to source) mods like ACE, CSLA and FDF, some of Gnat's stuff and stuff by Vilas/Topas/Yaciek. Not much really. I had more on older drive, but it's out of commission - I never really got to redownload all the lost data because, "hey, Armaholic doesn't seem to be in trouble"...

Yes you can do something.

Dont delete stuff that looks like Arma1 of Arma2 mods/missions.   Dont trash the harddisk of that old gamerig that has been lying around in the closet for years.
Oh, and dont forget to inform your gaming-buddies about the above.

Another better hosting site imo would be to use Google drive which is free, and they give you 15gb of free space,

which you can buy more if you need it.

Then there is Mega which gives you 50gb for free, but if you want more space then it would cost you

$6.08 USD/ 4.99 € month which gives you 400gb of storage, you can ungrade for more space than that, theres also an app you

can have on your desktop like dropbox does check it out https://mega.nz/pro

with Mega you can pay $20 a month and get 8TB of space if you need it,

Drop box is limited to 3TB, and

Google drive is limited to 2TB

Some of Kronsky’s stuff support call it looks like

and a bit of the old DaiZy stuff however the old DaiZy missions are still hosted on another site that has tons of old Arma 2 OA missions for DayZ SP gameplay. Ah yes it is still hosted by @kodabar it looks like

DaiZy forums

As for Arma 3 I have looks like 8 files of George’s work, as well as a good bit of @aliascartoons work as well. Along with tons of other stuff :slayer:

I’ll work on organizing the files a bit more before sending them to whoever will need them. 😉

It would be good to have him comment specifically, other than on what was, until today, a basically abandoned Twitter account...

As a former staff member the Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube accounts had all been misused for a while now about when the time many of the staff got lazy and didn't bother anymore.

Practically Fox was running the place himself and he of course had his own life to worry about too. Steam Workshop really didn't finally put the nail in the coffin in my opinion.

It is really sad actually, Fox was a good friend of mine, I am still awaiting his reply on Facebook to see IF this is actually legit, the last I heard was that he was working on a new website

which could compete better with the likes of Steam.

I have looked at my first 'ex hdd' and most of it is extracted stuff. But there is also around 100gb of 7-zip & winrar stuff which amounts to 1330'ish files.

As a group we'll have quite a bit, lot will be double's though, so would have to sift through. Later perhaps when organised.

I'll look at the next drive once you find out how your moving forward. Most of the stuff is extracted, huge amount. I could re-zip them, but would need to see if any have been altered (you know for my own use).

Anyway, good to hear about the other storage, because free drop box, isn't going to handle it, its full, just 2gb.

Erm, excuse me??? Armaholic had its downtime sometimes and was of course one of those prone to be D-DoSED at times but unstable? haha... never!

it was well looked after by Fox and even considering its age, thank you.

I just had a thought, other then Foxhound, who else ran Armaholic that is on these forums too?

I know and think there were two others, i forget the one guy's name but maybe if we can contact him either the forums here,

or email if he has one we can get some info on what maybe happened, and well the most important part ... The Files!

    Anyone?

Me, I am still waiting for Foxhound to reply to me on Facebook, I will let you know in due course.

Just to put this out though, you people need to stop saying the database is for sale! I would personally think that Fox would never do that, the (domain and website) yes!

but as for the community files, no... I think he will give them to the right person who would take care of them and follow on his work.

Remember people, Foxhound did all this file and web hosting for FREE out of his own pocket for many years! at least give the guy some credit.

Extracted stuff is also worth keeping.    in case a packed version doesnt re-appear,  we could repack the unpacked pbo. - after all, inside the pbo there should be some info regarding version number.

Another thing came to my mind: A small tool that scans your local directories for 'wanted' filenames could make the whole process a lot easier.  i'll see what i can do.

Welcome back, i had thought you and Foxhound and i swear there was someone else too along with you two that ran the site, but happy to see your back

Good points, i initially misinterpreted before a page or two back when i seen the twitter post, but makes sense.

As for the domain is that actually lost now because a new site is using it or is that a placeholder site for something

Fox is ... actually working on to surprise us?

i dont want to create a rumors of something thats not happening, just curious as to how a long time used domain like Armaholic.com ended up being "taken"

or is now being used by another site that has nothing to do with the original context of what Armaholic was.

Maybe Foxhound sold the domain?

As domains with age can seriously increase in value, i know this from my own domain for my missionrepository website

which btw after 8yrs is worth over $1200 if i sold it.

What i dont get is the site that is now "in place" of Armaholic or is using the armaholic domain really has nothing

to do with the name, i mean the name does not fit what that site is about at all at least to me, its a indoneisan gambling site,

like a casino. I find it rather odd.

I come and go, just invisible most times and haven't really played ArmA for a while now to either get back into editing or playing, etc.
There was me, Tom_48_97, Sunraa, Viper, BIG, and Foxhound at the biggest point, mostly Fox and BIG kept it alive, I was merely a news poster and moderator on the forums.

Of course there were others that were on the staff but they were just content creators for the YouTube channel. BIG was the guy mostly in charge of posting

mission releases and Fox almost everything. BIG left a couple of years back to have a family if I remember correctly, Viper just quit, Tom_48_97 and Sunraa was not very active

anyway and was only responsible for server-side things then there was me who just dropped out a while back when Armaholic was just not busy anymore for

me to even moderate so Foxhound took it all on himself to keep it alive on his own.

I have always kept in touch with Foxhound, he was a decent guy to help me on a number of my own projects such as (Modsaholic) if you can remember.

He never once asked me for money, nothing of the kind and that is why my previous message to those calling him out thinking he will charge you all for the database

is just pure wrong, he isn't like that! he was a community guy and he gave you all a LOT. Of course, has times got harder in the years since Steam Workshop started

hosting the mods he had no choice really to have a small subscription charge for those wanting faster downloads EVEN though ALL files were still FREE but some

were slower to download than others, he had no choice as ads simply were not paying out anymore, and remember since 2006 this guy was paying a LOT out of his

own pocket so you can't blame him.

He obviously has his own reasons for not saying why or when he would walk away, but so what! he gave 15 years to the community and could have just burnt out

like we all do, he does NOT have to tell any of you f*ck all! he has his own life and you guys all need to respect that. He put out a tweet at least and for me that is

good enough, I am not going to ask him why he shut down the site either, it's none of my business.

Now I can say, knowing Foxhound for many years now I can almost put my hand on my heart and say that he has all the files still, he knows the importance of them

and of course, he wouldn't just delete them, that is the Foxhound I know.

As for the website/domain, it is GONE! I have checked everywhere and it has been sold to a betting company in Sumatra: https://www.whois.com/whois/armaholic.com

since the 26th of May 2021 when it was updated.

I am waiting for the reply about the files and when I know something I promise to let you know here.

lets stay on subject of what jerryhopper is doing, as well as any files anyone else has, and hosting sites, it will all work out sooner or later just

give it some time and leave it at that, we'll need to before Roadkill decides to step in and say pipe down boys and locks the thread, sit tight!

As a Gamer that loves Arma and the huge amount of mods it has
Im happy that things are looking a little better for the chances of the files to get a new home, and im looking forward to see the progress of the great effort you guys have been putting into getting in contact with Armaholic’s Creator/host and the effort to potentially find a place for the files.
Im so thankfull for being part of such a passionate community

I keep looking at this thread almost daily to keep myself updated on whats going on 🙂
