Why aren't my AI units attacking?

Recommended Posts

Although the external fireteam has an anti-tank gun, as well as my own fireteam, they do not attack the tank. Why?

Its a major major problem imo and one of the reasons i dont support them anymore buying DLC's and what not. A war game in which a tank can utterly decimate your entire fireteam (s) and yet your AT guys for whatever reason refuse to fire. Ive made videos of this years ago to showcase to the AI devs and they could care less as they have not attempted to fix it whatsoever.

There is simply no excuse for soldiers not to fire in  a wargame -id rather they spam and miss as there aint nothing more impotent feeling than having the proper weapon to counter and yet your AI simply refuse to.

I'd say that the tank's thermal signature would have something to do with it. Admittedly, you would hope that the AI would just fire and manually guide the missile without a lock, but I just set an AT Specialist up against a T-100 and it wasn't until I set the T-100's thermal signature to max that the AI started firing anyway.

AI isn't engaging against one tank, but is engaging against two tanks on same group:

I thought increasing threat level to 1 would help but had the same results.

Edit: similar behaviour against soft vehicles as well (one truck = no AT, more trucks = AT). They begin by preferring using small arms before switching to AT. After initial AT rounds they hesitate between rifle and AT and finally fire an AT at 2nd truck.

Cheers.

How'd you do that, beno?

nevermind this post, it was all related to heat signature.

Thanks.

Turns out setting the engine hot only is enough. And for the AI to engage one vehicle only instead of two, all it has to happen is for the engine to be hot. Hence the more than one vehicle engagement, once I add another vehicle to the group it starts the engine trying to move into formation, making it an active target.
I'm guessing to answer the OP's question is that, that vehicle was stopped for some time or spawned there and never turned it's engine on.

So... @beno_83au's answer 😅

Does anyone have any idea why my tank crew on the main gun don't fire at the enemy tank? I noticed again and again ... : /

Normal soldiers are always shot at, but not tanks ...

Not sure but you might have to shift-left click to fire tank rounds as a commander.

- Adding to your original question, if your AI use PCML launchers (and others: RPG, etc) you don't need a heat signature.

I was just the driver though. The AI soldiers were in command and shooter (see video in the post before). Why didn't the commander give the order to aim and then shoot? The only way I could explain it to myself was that, as a higher ranking officer, I would still have to give such orders. But they also shoot normal soldiers without a order, just not tanks.
