quarren_ 81 Posted August 26, 2020 GM Version: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2225145483 CUP Version: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2266525478 Quote Tanoa, 198X Government forces wage a bloody civil war against a recently established insurgent faction fighting for the collectivisation of important Tanoan industries amidst a general economic depression. The so-called „Revolutionary Forces of the Horizon Islands“ (RFHI) have, in the past few weeks, hit local institutions and international companies on Tanoa with bombings and kidnappings in order to destabilize the authoritan government. RHFI is rumored to have strong ties to local organized crime and is especially active on the islands of the Tanoan archipelago. Their arms and equipment are allegedly procured from the black market, no external backing is supposed to exist. While RFHI publicly displays a "communist" ideology, their true intentions are up for debate. The Horizon Island’s geopolitical situation is dire: diplomatic relations to NATO-aligned allies (especially France as former colonial ruler) are deteriorating after several past coup-attempts (one successful) by the armed forces. The newly appointed government is underhandedly seeking new allies within the Soviet Union and states of the eastern bloc (including the GDR and China), mainly to procure weapons for their power-hungry military. While the Horizon Islands are certainly not a socialist state in alignment to Soviet doctrine, the eastern bloc is happy to oblige in exchange for foreign currency. Thus, the „Horizon Islands Army“ (HIA) - in addition to their existing western armament - has recently been equipped with eastern vehicles and weapons that the West was unwilling to openly provide and is looking to exterminate the internal threat of RFHI with impunity and no mercy towards civilian "collaborators". Involvement in human rights violations has been reported for both parties. Rumors of secret NATO-backed involvement on the side of HIA against a) RFHI and b) a further shift to the East continue to persist. -- Hi guys, inspired by the awesome 'Altis 90s' mod, I have started thinking about doing something similar for Tanoa (and its factions). The general idea: addon will be based on Global Mobilization assets (80s), so some liberties will have to be taken in respect to "lore/worldbuilding" or what makes sense in terms of weapon usage for a nation in the south pacific will implement new factions and units (limited for now): Horizon Islands Army (80s) [name subject to change] side: Independent _very_ roughly inspired by military forces of Fiji and Indonesia not really your "goodie-two-shoes" guys, might have been involved in coup-attempts in the aftermath of independence from french rule opportunists: (increasingly weak) ties to NATO due to former french rule, albeit in contact with Soviet union for weapon/equipment deals uniform will probably be some sort of reskinned GM BDU (plain green for now, vanilla woodland also works surprisingly well), M63 helmet/beret/boonie hat/military cap uses existing western gear (M16A1, G3, MG3, MP5/Uzi for crew), with some recent eastern additions (i.e. RPG-7) limited use of vehicles of Soviet origin: BTR-60, Ural. Western: M113, Unimog - plain green colorsscheme Iltis as a light vehicle air vehicles: limited use of Bo-105 and Mi-2, Do-28 as reconnaisance plane Revolutionary Forces of the Horizon Islands (80s) side: OPFOR basically 2030s Syndikat/L'Ensemble with older equipment I am imagining something similar to FARC - an insurgent "communist" faction that secures financing by dabbling in organized crime (kidnapping, trafficking) weapons: AKM, Uzi, Handguns, stolen G3s, PKM vanilla bandit/paramilitary clothing, GM vests, M56 helmet or bandanas/hats cars: Ural, UAZ, Motorbike L-410T as illicit trafficking plane I'm very much looking for input on this and am hoping to gauge interest in something like this. 😉 Some Screenshots to set the mood: Spoiler Horizon Islands Army on patrol in the jungle. RFHI insurgent looking cool and all. Horizon Islands license plate and insurgent. Polecat ATV (Iltis) with standard Tanoan loadout and livery.
-Joe- 101 Posted August 26, 2020 Interesting concept, but there's definitely a few places I'd take it in a different direction. With the Horizon Islands being a former French colonial possession Soviet equipment doesn't quite make sense for them. Imported German and American equipment should work well enough, and there are plenty of "attribution" models on SketchFab and beyond that may prove suitable, should you choose to go down that road. Syndikat aren't founded until some time in the early 2000s-2010s. Replacing them with a "Communist" insurgency of some description would probably roll better with the era, at least as a "pre-cursor" to Syndikat. CUP, on top of GM, would prove to be an incredibly solid base - after all, it provides a more than fair selection of era appropriate arms and vehicles. The soviet equipment was a point of contention for me as well. Seeing that modern day Fijian military forces use AK-101s and RPKs, I managed to convince myself though. 😄 I agree with the french weaponry (see initial post), but wish to keep dependencies to a minimum for the moment (I am considering a seperate version of the mod with CUP FAMAS/FALs). Regarding Syndikat: good point as well. However, I want to somehow keep the "organized crime" character of the faction. Maybe something similar to FARC: an insurgent faction that takes part in organized crime to secure financing.

quarren_ 81 Posted August 31, 2020 A bit of flavor text to explore the setting further and make sense of the mixed eastern/western armament of the Horizon Islands Army. -- Tanoa, 198X Government forces wage a bloody civil war against a recently established insurgent faction fighting for the collectivisation of important Tanoan industries amidst a general economic depression. quarren_ 81 Posted September 8, 2020 I am getting the mod ready for a preliminary WIP release at the moment. I have fleshed out the "RFHI" faction a lot more, pretty much figured out all the units and vehicles and am now working on getting CfgGroups ready. Some more impressions: Spoiler Tanoan army squad en route. Tanoan Army Mi-2T leasurely surveying the jungle. RFHI "Syndikat" colorscheme and insignia on vehicles Insurgent chillin on his Hercules Totally not a member of a Tanoan death squad about to violate human rights
quarren_ 81 Posted September 10, 2020 I just released an early version to the workshop (_very much_ WIP) so I don't get burnt out silently working on it. I would be very happy to get some feedback on it. 🙂 https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2225145483
quarren_ 81 Posted September 24, 2020 I am chugging along on this addon and have recently added Special Forces to the Horizon Islands Army faction - they're out on the workshop already. Today I will push another update which will include RFHI elite units (see screenshots below). Spoiler
quarren_ 81 Posted September 30, 2020 Coming soon: Tanoan Gendarmerie 🙂
quarren_ 81 Posted October 11, 2020 New update adds the Do-28 D2 (amongst other stuff) to Horizon Islands Army. PT-76B has been included in a previous update as well.
quarren_ 81 Posted October 22, 2020 In the last few days/week(s) I have also been working on a CUP version of the mod that does not require Global Mobilization. It takes the basic concept from the GM version but there are going to be major differences in respect to the weaponry/equipment/vehicles used by the factions. HIA's main service rifle is going to be the FN FAL with FAMAS used by special forces, for example. RFHI makes use of some of the awesome weapons from CUP as well (i.e. SKS, Type56, Lee Enfield). CUP Version is likely going to be released next week. Some impressions: Spoiler

quarren_ 81 Posted October 28, 2020 Work on the GM version of "80s Tanoa" continues with a fun new faction: Tucan Oil Security Services. Assumed by some to be a right-wing paramilitary funded by Tucan Oil with the intention of toppling the government and ending the insurgency on their own, Tucan Oil vehemently denies those claims. ""No villainous deeds planned with this thing, no sir." Spoiler

quarren_ 81 Posted October 29, 2020 The Tucan Oil saga continues. Mysterious happenings atop Mount Tanoa: "Nothing to see here, move along." 😂
quarren_ 81 Posted October 30, 2020 Work on the Tucan Oil faction continues (including a civilian variant). "International playboy and speedboat champion Ewe Morilau, son of Tucan Oil's CEO Wiki Morilau, has been spotted on his way to an important business meeting at Blue Pearl Harbor." Secretly captured footage of said "business meeting" with infamous german arms merchant Klaus-Dieter Müller: "Meanwhile, the Tucan Oil rallye team is preparing for the season." I will probably update the GM version of the mod this weekend or the at the start of the next week. Afterwards I will work on the CUP version again and introduce the SA-330 Puma and L-39 to Horizon Islands Army. I also want to bring the Tucan Oil faction(s) to the CUP version - I'll have to see which assets to use there (definitely the Datsun pick-up, Motorboat and SA-330 Puma, maybe the M151 and refueling Ural). Bonus Screenshot: Tucan Oil experiment T.19295 gone horribly wrong. (feat. Ravage mod) 😄
quarren_ 81 Posted November 1, 2020 Update for '80s Tanoa [GM Ver.]', which adds two versions of the Tucan Oil faction (Civilian and Independent), is out on the workshop, have fun!
quarren_ 81 Posted November 3, 2020 Aaaand I started working on more civilian assets. Daltgreen expedition with army escort: This is most likely not going to be a faction on its own, there's just going to be general '80s Tanoan Civilians' which includes this type of stuff. quarren_ 81 Posted November 9, 2020 More work has been done on regular civilians - hawaiian/flower shirts for everyone! 😄 Such as this private investigator doin some surveillance: Bonus "Fantasy Island"-type dude, suit can also just be used for a regular resort manager I guess: Spoiler
quarren_ 81 Posted November 10, 2020 New update is out on the workshop - adds these cool dudes amongst other things like Daltgreen-themed vehicles, miners (unionized ones that have taken up arms as well) and many new civilians with fresh outfits.

quarren_ 81 Posted June 14, 2021 Just released an update which includes some of the new stuff from GM 1.3, changes include but aren't limited to: - reworked RFHI elite/advisor uniforms (now based on PL ones) and loadouts - new insurgent squadleader - new insurgent farmer - new insurgent pilot - new radiomen - adjusted textures for several regular insurgents - adjusted regular insurgents' loadouts - they now use 7.62mm AKMs across the board, simplifying their ammo logistics - added UAZ and Mi-2 variants for RFHI - regular HIA troops now use the G3 across the board (no more M16 and G3 users in a single squad), marines and specops keep their M16s - switched over to gloveless version of the BDU where it makes sense
