konTomi 0 Posted January 22, 2003 I didn't know whether to put this to here at the troubleshooting or to the multiplayer, but since this forum handles bugs, this just might be the right place. I was wondering if there is any help available for this very annoying LAG in new versions (1.85,1.90 and 1.91b)?? I mean we usually play at LAN, so the network connection isnt't the one which causes the lag. For example: Hosting player (my brother) sees me (joined player) climbing in a tank. This far ok, but when I start to drive the tank, my brother still sees me stopped at the spot. So with this huge lag I can drive over him and he doesn't even notice me. He just sees me stopped in tank where I climbed in. After 30-60 seconds the tank jumps to the position it really is. In that time I may have driven behind him and shoot him from there. And the funniest thing is, if he sees me climbing in that tank, he can destroy that tank where he sees it even if I've driven away half a minute ago... So, there seemed to be some kind of dedicated server patch to solve the problem, but that really doesn't help us because we need both computers to play. Any help to this? It really takes the joy of playing away... I could report those other bugs here as well: - with joined player, all the barrels of the tanks, helicopters etc. are facing north. VERY annoying. - If there is a collapsed house and you drive a tank near it, the building may SUCK you inside it and you get stuck there for the rest of the game. And this gives this wonderful "klonkklonkklonk" sound for the rest of the mission. - Also if there is a collapsed house, you might not be able to shoot from near its corners because the bullets just stop in the air in front of you. Especially funny with a law launcher. But these are bugs to be fixed later. Only that lagbug is so annoying that it prevents the gameplay...
konTomi 0 Posted January 22, 2003 Oh, and I forgot to mention that there is no lag in the beginning of the game, but it grows steadily as you play. Also there is no lag when both are on foot. But when you jump in a vehicle....
Lt_Damage 0 Posted January 22, 2003 I have not experienced any such issues at all. Since 1.90 (or server 1.88) performance has been fantastic. I have been stuck on 56k modem recently and still the performance is playable. On LAN I am experiencing really good performance, don't notice any delay or desync whatsoever. The person who hosts, is their machine powerful enough? Sounds very strange to me that you could experience lag on a LAN.

As I said this lag is weird, because it only exists if the other player jumps in a tank or some other vehicle. Thanks anyway for your answer.
Guest BratZ Posted January 23, 2003 Computer sounds ok if thats the server. But hows the graphic settings? If you have it nice for single player, then you host a server and play also. Its highly unlikely that its the lan if people are running internet servers with 32 people.Sounds like the server may be choking
daram 0 Posted January 24, 2003 I had so many problems playing with my wife over LAN with V1.90, The issue was very similar. No Lag on foot and very much over vehicles. I had to take a look over the avon lady´s faq to solve many issues with my Gf4 configuration (it helped very much). There is an issue too with the vehicles, because i´ve noticed that when you use some addons, the computer freezes. This specially happens with Sigma´s Tank packs. Be sure too to have addons compatible with v1.90 otherways vehicles freezes game. Anyway I agree with you that NEtwork comunication sometimes is too slow and this could be the difference between Live and death
Greg 0 Posted January 24, 2003 I have noticed some similar lag playing the other day. Friend got in tank. I ran toward tank to get in as it was stationary. Perhaps 20sec later when I was just about to jump in, it warped 50m away and was speeding off. Lag on foot was not as pronounced.

Actually, run the #monitor t(sec) command on your server. If your framerate is below 15fps, you know you have to vary the mission AI etc... I have seen that vehicle delay problem as well.
