Rah-66 comanche released

People were saying that the gun was overpowered but it tooke me 7 seconds to knock out a T80 and 14 seconds to take out an m1a1. Both standard BIS models. Do consider that i was in autohover and completely still when i did this.

The armor value on custom models may be different. That may be why it is tearing them apart.

I think this helicopter needs cup holders, the pilot and gunner have to have somewhere to set their beers. tounge.gif

I also don't get the rotorwash. I get it with the other DKM choppers, just not any of the RAH-66 models.

What information do you need from me (us) to track this problem down? Otherwise, it's a great addon!!!!!

AAAARGH!!! This addon looks so sweet, but they seem to have a error (the pbo-file), well at least for me. I downloaded it from http://ofp-zone.gamesurf.tiscali.de/ and from your own site. Both packages give me a crs (or crc?) error. Ah damn, i really want to play with this baby confused.gif Perhaps something went wrong with the uploads? (don't think so, because everyone else seems to get it working)

Carnage, I checked the text file and found the weapon names. Thanks for that I must of been looking for a long list and skipped over that small section.

Thanks for the great addon, we don't generally feature addons on Gameplanet but the people need to see this thing in action.

I dont get the Downwash effect either? It works for the other choppers but not the new addon.

for a 20mm cannon against a tank yes it dose seem a bit over powered, ww2 fighters had 20mm cannons.

But wy is the Cannopy thing not posible? i will tell how it works ok : First make the Cannopy and use the script ( you can find this al on Colonel_klink's site ) but this sript works with speed so if you use this and the chopper is flying @ a speed of 20 or higer the cannopy close and if you have a speed below 20 the canoppy opens so if you do some little tweeking and add some zelf made things and Zier hier een good script. ;)i will give more tips and details tomorow but now i gonna sleep ( school he )

Harnu i know! omg i started firing and totally cracked up. It was soooo wimpy sounding. My paintball gun sounds like a friggen nuke compared to these cannons that destroy tanks

open/close canopy without any safety checking while the rest of the addon is allmost buried in safety features doesnt go, we tried to do it as the other guy described, but it was making the whole thing buggy.

So that would require a major overhaul of all scripts, it wasnt worth the effort in our view.

there seems to be al imit to the amount of animations one addon can handle, things went weird after adding a few more than it now has.

I know people are saying the cannon is too powerful but you will suck it dry very quickly. Plus the helicopter is quite fragile. If you are attacking tanks and a hind comes by i hope you saved your gun. Otherwise you are screwed.

Oh, does anyone have any tips for using the stinger's on the aircombat commanche? I can't hit the broadside of a barn with them.

The T-90 by Sigma has significantly better armour than the BIS T80.

I have to agree that to me, the gun seems overpowered. It must have either higher ROF or damage than the ingame AH-1 cannon.

I did a sim battel in the mission editor of 5 Ah-66 vs. 5 Mig29. Funny thing - the Migs fly too damn fast for the Commanche to engage, and the radar blocking made it impossible for the Migs to target the choppers with their AA missiles. tounge.gif

Small nitpick, otherwise awesome addon.

Really great addon. I have a couple of questions about using it in Res though as I tested it on Nogova. In my game in 3rd person mode the helicopter was invisble - you could only see groups of flying hellfires. Second the church on the hill near the bridge was invisible but could still be targetted and destroyed with hellfires. Third in the 'You Are Dead' cutscene the helicopter was a shadow on the ground with actual hellfires in position.

I ran the game again without RAH66 and the church was once again visible on the hill.

Does anyone have any idea about these glitches. Apart from this its great. Very good cockpit layout in first person mode, flies very easily, weapons target and hit no problem.

I don't think it is overpowered but it does have a higher rate of fire i believe. Maybe mess around with the damage values for the gun.

Though, you will run the gun dry very quickly if you use it on tanks constanly.

If a mission make sets up a good defense the commanche will be torn up quickly.

If they feel the need to tweak the gun i'm not opposed but if they don't its no big deal.

It is still a damn good chopper. I love all the little bells and whistles.

I have had no bugs with this addon. biggrin.gif but my friend has a slower system and he had no downwash. He also crashed to desktop a few times, but I think that was not the addon that did it. He might have to many addons in his folder. The only thing that I found odd looking was how slow it fell to the ground when it went into a spin. I got shot down (chopper blew up as I hit eject) and I hit the ground way before the chopper did. It was funny to watch it fall at such a slow rate with nobody in it. I am not sure what my friend gets for a benchmark, but I get around 5500

you said it... i has a higher rof than standard, it drains quickly, it does exactly the same damage as the apaches gun, but does it faster.

The FFARS and Hellfires are 100% default BIS values, stingers are adequate for downing planes/choppers, but thats about it.

we tested it and found it to be pretty balanced... be it that this helo ofcourse will be more effective than the apache (with similar loadouts)

i fell for the weapons balance discussion trap before, learnt my lesson, after this i wont speak of it again.

Just felt the need to point out that this helo is by no means overpowered.

(before anyone starts comparing a 30mm to a 20 mm gun i take this opportunity to point out that ofp damage system isnt good and that i reject any further discussioon about it. And add to that: why isnt anybody bothered by the shilkas 23mm guns destroying an M1A1, or vulcan 20mm vs t80, and every new addon has to be defended on the same subject?)

But anyway, overall reactions are good, which is stimulating to continue making addons, on behalf of entire DKM crew, thanks for stating your feedback.

I make mods and I understand some of the obstacles and your rah is yours and you made it and thats how it is,if you want it diff you will change it.

I been playing with the Rah and its real nice! And for the most part you really surprised me by releasing it.Alot of modmakers appear to take months,I was already going to release my plane but I also would like high quality and no dissatisfied customers,and not that OFP peeps are customers,I made the plane sorta for myself as I want it.I suppose it wouldn't matter if peeps didn't even like it.As it is my plane has nowheres near drawn the attention your chopper has,wondering if I shall even release it,appears I made an unsuitable choice on a low demand item.

Outstanding job. This is by far the best addon, and my favorite addon to ever be released. Textures/cockpit/&physics are all VERY well done (just wish the Attack Choppers had US Army on them instead of USMC confused.gif)

Now all we need is a russian chopper to compete with it biggrin.gif

Giving opinions on addons and missions is a very good thing, as long as they are constructive, that is the only way things become as high quality as this fine chopper.

Stroking someone's ego does nothing but hurt them.

Gen Carnage says it is balanced and i will agree with him since he has had much more time with the addon than anyone else.

Ah - I figured out the down wash issue - the chopper must have a benchmark autodetect that turns it off on slower machines, right? That is why slower machines = no downwash. I think this is how the first release of DKM down wash addon worked, correct? wink.gif

So basically it's saving slower machines from bogging down.
