Doctors rethinking coronavirus:  -  Yahoo, April 8 2020

Are we using ventilators the wrong way?

In a video posted to YouTube on March 31, which has been widely circulated and discussed among doctors on the front lines of fighting COVID-19, Cameron Kyle-Sidell, an emergency medicine doctor at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, explains how, like most health care workers around the U.S., when he first started providing critical care for coronavirus patients in March, he was under the impression that he would be treating patients with a “viral pneumonia infection that would progress into acute respiratory distress syndrome.

"they do not lool like patients dying of pneumonia...patients

in front of me look like dropped off on the top of the

Mt. Everest without time to acclimate"

Quote

“COVID-19 lung disease, as far as I can see, is not a pneumonia and should not be treated as one,” said Kyle-Sidell. “Rather, it appears as if some kind of viral-induced disease most resembling high altitude sickness. It is as if tens of thousands of my fellow New Yorkers are on a plane at 30,000 feet and the cabin pressure is slowly being let out. These patients are slowly being starved of oxygen.”

“I fear,” he said, that using ventilators “to increase pressure on the lungs in order to open them up, is actually doing more harm than good, ......

......and that the pressure we are providing to lungs, we may be providing to lungs that cannot take it, and that the ARDS that we are seeing may be nothing more than lung injury caused by the ventilator.”

Is this proof 'life-saving' ventilators are actually deathtraps?  -   April 17  2020

Their success rate is appalling and medics are increasingly worried they may do more harm than good, disturbing report reveals

Quote

Many of the most eminent medical specialists, governments and politicians were insisting in the early days that ventilators were a crucial life-saver.

Dr David Farcy, the president of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, warns against using them indiscriminately. His patients have been treated successfully with fastflow oxygen delivered through a simple nasal tube or mask.

'This has challenged everything we thought', he said. 'Six weeks ago everybody (in a hospital) would be running around getting ready to intubate you, put you on a machine'. But not any more.

So why the change of tune?

The answer is that some doctors have a remarkable new thesis:

that the virus's symptoms are more akin to highaltitude breathing difficulties (caused by a lack of oxygen at extreme heights) or even carbon monoxide poisoning (which snuffs out oxygen in the body's red blood cells).

Nearly 9 in 10 Covid-19 Patients on Ventilators Don’t Make It

A giant study that examined outcomes for more than 2,600 patients found an extraordinarily high 88% death rate among Covid-19 patients in the New York City area who had to be placed on mechanical devices to help them breathe.

Water park in Wuhan, China packs in thousands of music fans

China - Wuhan goes wild with crowded Party [AFP, Aug. 17th]

Quote

Thousands of people stood shoulder to

shoulder at a water park in Wuhan over

the weekend for a socially snug concert,..

..Critics have often described such

partygoers as “Covidiots” in other parts

of the world, including the U.S. and Canada.

Quote

However, Wuhan claims to have effectively

stopped the spread of COVID-19, which has

seemingly allowed it to revive the parties of the past.

Here we go. While we're concerned with how to embed the latest set of colors into our persona in order to elevate or repress a predefined stance, this thing is being pushed forward.

Came across this little doozy in latest episode of New World Next Week. It's from late last year but it's a rather special one. Who says Germans have no humor.

Bravo to the lockdown sceptics

who were smeared and dismissed for daring to defend freedom

...senior members of government during that whole lockdown business has finally admitted that the strategy was overdone, badly handled and badly communicated.

The brave few kept the flag of personal freedom alive. That really is no exaggeration. And they paid heavily for it. On social media the abuse was intense. You don’t care about lives! they snarled. You’re murderers! they claimed. And in the mainstream, things weren’t much better. You’re a “small, disproportionately influential faction,” moaned a Guardian Leader, that “denies the virulence of the virus”.

Thanks for that.

...He now tells us it was wrong to empower scientists to such a degree; wrong to allow Sage such sway over policy; wrong not to consider the long-term impact of lockdown on people’s health and wellbeing; wrong not to discuss the inevitable huge delays to cancer, heart disease and diabetes diagnoses; wrong to close schools; and wrong to instill such fear.

For all these lockdown victims, Sunak’s words come two years too late.

Little by little the truth of lockdown is being admitted: it was a disaster

Lockdown was an extreme and unprecedented response to an ancient problem, the challenge of epidemic disease. It was also something else. It marked one of the gravest governmental failures of modern times.

The tragedy is that this is only now being acknowledged.

Lockdown was a policy conceived in the early days by China and the World Health Organisation as a way of suppressing the virus altogether (so-called zero Covid).

European countries, except Sweden, eagerly embraced lockdown, ripping up a decade of pandemic planning that had been based on concentrating help on vulnerable groups and avoiding coercion.

It was always obvious that you could not close down a country for months on end without serious consequences. The shocking thing that emerges from Sunak’s interview is that the government refused to take them into account. There was no assessment of the likely collateral costs of lockdown. There was no cost-benefit analysis. There was no planning. In government the issues were not even discussed. Sunak’s own attempts to raise them hit a brick wall. Ministers took refuge in evasive buck-passing, claiming to be “following the science”.

The lockdown was an experiment in authoritarian government unmatched in our history even in wartime.

Discussion of fundamental issues was ruled out in the name of collective responsibility..........

Lockdown did more economical damage that any virus could imo.

In the wake of somewhat recent WHO's pandemic prevention, preparedness and response accord, UK parliament is now finally debating it's content, thanks to the people that gathered enough signatures and in turn mobilized their representatives. If at all possible, you might want to do what you can in your own communities, especially in EU and US, in order to move such conversation forward.
