Update: August 2020

Our most recent campaign, “Operation Thin Ice,” conducting operations and patrols throughout Iraq.

On 06Jan2020 roughly 4,000 troops of the 1st brigade combat team of the 82nd Airborne Division based out of Fort Bragg, N.C., have deployed to parts of Kuwait and Iraq. They are part of the division’s global response force, kept on standby for particular emergencies. A senior United States military officer said the deployment of the 82nd Airborne paratroopers and other ground forces was defensive, meant to position more troops in the Middle East who could be quickly deployed to defend or reinforce American embassies, consulates and military bases. The deployment comes in the wake of five U.S. airstrikes on Sunday Dec 29th, 2019, that targeted an Iran-backed militia known as Kata’ib Hizbollah — a group U.S. officials have blamed for a recent spate of rocket attacks against Iraqi bases housing coalition troops.

Deployment Update:

09AUG2020, The First Battalion 30th Infantry Reg, 3rd Infantry Division received orders to start remobilization training with intent to deploy to support the 82nd Airborne Division in the event of Iran’s continued attacks of US personnel in Iraq, 09AUG2020 The  3rd Infantry Division moved province closer to the Iraq/Iran border. Slight pockets of the KHM are still located with regions surrounded Forward Operating Base “Bushlurker”. Alpha Company, 1st Platoon has moved into the new province to eliminate hostile forces and threats.

Soldiers from 1st Platoon Widowmakers set up Checkpoints for their Combat Patrol as they move into Forward Operating Base "Bushlurker".

Update: April 2021

3ID deploys to Agadèz, Niger for Operation Silver Guardian (APR-2021)

Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division’s 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team are preparing to deploy to the Agadèz region, Niger, Africa as reinforcement and tasking to secure the Agadèz Airbase. Alpha Company “War Eagles” preparation consisted of four weeks of intensive pre-deployment training at Fort Irwin National Training Centre to acclimate themselves with similar terrains features they will encounter in Africa. In order to stem terrorist attacks in the Mopti region of African, the 3rd Infantry Division will set up operations at the US Army's Agadèz Drone base. The unit's leaders plan to establish a strong presence in the area, working with regional governments and local residents to maintain security and aid prosperity.

After the withdrawal of French troops from the region, terrorists launched an armed attack on a United States Drone Base in Agadèz, killing 15 American personnel. Drone reports also state that 2 American personnel have been taken hostage and moved to neighboring Mali, where United States President Joe Biden already negotiated an operations area in the zone French troops deployed to previously. After the initial mission in Agadèz, 3rd Infantry Division will redeploy to Mali, where most combat is expected to take place.

Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III dispatched more resources to US-AFRICOM and tasked them with engaging in direct combat against local Islamists and rebel groups Al-Qaïda, ISIS, and Boko Haram. The 3rd Infantry Division is attached to AFRICOM as QRF (Quick Reaction Force).

3ID Heads to Fort Irwin NTC for Pre-Deployment Training (MAR-2021)

Alpha Company Commander Major John LaFlash said, “We’ll be going into pre-deployment mobilization at Fort Irwin to go through our checklist before we deploy. It’s going to be a little bit different in terms of terrain, being Africa, and our enemy is going to be brutal to us at times.”

First Platoon “Widowmakers” can expect rigorous field training on patrolling in rural and urban terrain, establishing checkpoints, conducting assaults, close quarters battle, and more. The Infantry Brigade Combat Team's Aviation Detachment, 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, will train and operate in conjunction with ground elements to support overall mission success.

Although insurgents in the African Sahel have used tactics similar to those employed in the Middle East, the differences in local terrain, culture, and economy are stark. Alpha Company Headquarters will work closely at the National Training Center to ensure Soldiers have an immersive training experience.

At the conclusion of the month-long mobilization, the fighting men and women of the 3rd Infantry Division will deploy to Niger in support of counterinsurgency efforts surrounding Agadez Airbase. Unit Command is confident Soldiers will be ready to get the job done when they hit the ground.

3ID Dispatched to Firebase Santa Monica (OCT-2021)

Soldiers of the 3rd Infantry Division, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team have been flown into the surrounding jungles of Firebase Santa Monica to hold and extend the line against raging GSIM forces in the area. This will be a critical endevour for the 3ID and supplies will be hard to come across due to the nature of the environment and the remoteness of Santa Monica. However, First Platoon Widowmakers of the 2IBCT have dealt with similar circumstances before and overcame great odds to accomplish their mission. MAJ John LaFlash had a brief statement regarding the situation.

He stated the following: “This is nothing new for the Soldiers under my charge. They are expertly trained and equipped to overcome any obstacle within the Santa Monica region. The only real issue Widowmakers has to overcome is logistics. Fortunately 3CAB, our air attachment, are the angels on our shoulders for this operation.”

Field Training Exercise Yellow Carrot (DEC-2021)

The 3rd Infantry Division is now conducting fundamental training exercises with the Polish Army in a variety of different scenarios. We are working with Polish Army’s 12th Mechanized Battalion and the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment. It is significantly important that we stay professional and show as an example while we work with the Poles.

The exercise has been dubbed as “Yellow Carrot”. Our objective is to work with the Polish Army in conventional warfare while in the European theater. There is much we can learn from each other and we will no doubt overcome challenges together with ourselves and the Polish Army.

To recap on recent events where we will be stationed in Poland the following has transpired;

September 2021 - “A small border crossing incident happened close to the region of Roche, where a US motorized convoy crossed into Germany and occupied a small village for 2 hours before local police showed up and tried to mediate the situation. Unfortunately, 2LT P.Dick of the 3rd Infantry Division was not being cooperative as he was sure this was his objective. After 3 hours of further negotiation and calls, the mistake was cleared up. The German government has promised to help out it’s NATO friends and provide 1000 new German compasses to the United States Army Officer Corps.”

This was an extract from a Polish newspaper from a few months ago. All coalition forces are advised to keep track of their positions and not needlessly cross into Germany during Exercise Yellow Carrot.
