Flashpoint Nostalgia Project part one : Everon 1995 - Released! (Version 1.4)

Recommended Posts

Hello BiS forums, I am new on here, but have been playing Bohemia games since 2010. I have spent many hours in the mission editor over the years and made a few campaigns for ARMA 2 and Operation Flashpoint, but i never released them, and unfortunately they were lost when my computer got formatted.

Anyway after all these years I feel I got enough skill in mission editing that I have decided to publicly release a campaign I am working on for ARMA : Cold War Assault. I don't know if anyone still plays the game, but its got a special place in my heart so i decided to make this campaign 🙂

This campaign is part of a bigger project I am planning, the Flashpoint Nostalgia Project, its planned to be a trilogy of campaigns tying in to the stories of Cold War Crisis and Resistance.

Anyway here is a bit of info on part one :

Title : EVERON 1995

Islands : Everon, Malden, Kolgujev (Cutscenes only)

Player Side : West/Resistance

Playable Characters : 5 (Infantry, Resistance Fighter, Spec-ops, Tank Commander, Pilot)

Missions : 25

Full Voice Acting in English and Russian, depending on character (Made by me so may be a little amateur, but I'm trying my best)

Custom Music

Story Synopsis : EVERON 1995 takes place ten years after the events of 1985 : Cold War Crisis. After the defeat of General Guba and his renegade Soviet forces, Everon has been living peacefully under a joint administration with NATO forces. But this peace may not last as a group of people have a different vision for the future of Everon, a vision that could lead to war once again.

EVERON 1995 does not feature clear cut good or bad guys, I am aiming for a grey morality.  Every character has their reasons for the actions they take in the story, even if said actions are not always ethical. Its up to the player to decide who is right and who is wrong. This campaign also aims to show the reality and tragedy of war, and how it effects people. The story is also pretty original,  I have not seen  a similar story in any Campaigns for OFP/CWA i have played. Lets just say its not what is seems, but I won't spoil anything for now 😉

Release : https://files.fm/u/ps5xgbatp - (Version 1.4 - Please read the readme file in the download before playing for further details)

Welcome to the forum. I think there are still some people playing Ofp / CWA (including myself) and even modding it but they are not very verbose about it.

Good luck with your project, I suppose it will be hard to keep the motivation up and see it through, especially when working on it alone.

Small Update :

Work on EVERON 1995 is going well, the campaign is about 35-40% done. In February I plan to release a full trailer for the campaign. I will most likely release the Beta Version of the Campaign some time at the end of February or at the beginning of March. After sorting out potential issues and bugs version 1.0 will be released.

I'm happy OFP/CWA is still alive, making this campaign is a lot of fun for me, and I hope people will like it.  :)

Added Some WIP pics from the campaign :

3JdGoer.png

Lieutenant Eric Tucker and Sergeant Bill Davis (From left to right), two of the most capable officers of the U.S. Army forces on Everon. As you can see they are surprised by something, what could that be? ;)

KngU4vo.png

Radovan Zavatsky (Center) and Anton Kotas (Left), two of the commanders of the local resistance movement (EIA). Both are veterans of the 1985 war, and in the case of Anton also the 1982 war on Nogova.

2sHJ8UM.png

TD4evJY.png

Civilian Life in Saint Pierre on Everon in 1995. As you can see nothing much has changed since the 1980s, beside a more visible U.S. presence that has been growing since Guba's defeat in 1985.

Russian Federation Armed Forces HQ on Kolgujev. Russia may be in a economic crisis after the fall of the USSR, but the 3rd Army on Kolgujev is still a capable fighting force to be reckoned with. There are however problems because of the situation in Russia, namely low morale and fuel and ammunition shortages that prevent the forces on Kolgujev from keeping all of their equipment up and running.

I plan to release a beta version of the campaign some time from the end of February to the Middle of March. Version 1.0 will be released most likely some time at the end of March. But I will do everything in my power to make the beta version as playable as possible. I'm taking my time as I want the campaign to be as bug free as possible and not rushed. After the amount of buggy campaigns and missions I played, I want to avoid things like that in my project :)

Meanwhile look out for the full trailer that should be released in about a week, max two weeks. It will show more of the story and some of the characters. And it will contain more gameplay from the campaign.

Update :

Due to circumstances out of my control ( Health problem that caused me to spend two weeks in hospital - Don't worry,  not COVID-19 ) work on EVERON 1995 has been delayed but is still ongoing. The campaign should be released at maximum in May.

As a apology for this delay, I give you a small Teaser showing a bit more content from the Campaign.

Bill Davis of the U.S. Army speaks through the phone with the Commander of the U.S. Forces on Everon from the field HQ in Montignac.
Also included is a small shot of the EIA (Everon Independence Alliance) armoured force consisting of one T-80 tank and two T-72s

Update 05.2020 :

The campaign is 90% done, only four missions and a few cutscenes left!

For now I have a little gift for anybody who is waiting, thank you for you patience :)

A special trailer i made about one of the characters of the campaign : Ivan Bobrov

Ivan Bobrov is a former Soviet Spetsnaz soldier who served under General Guba in the 1985 war. Now, ten years later, he will face war once again, and only time will tell if he and his girlfriend Kamila survive this new conflict...

After a long day of fighting, Ivan gazes into the sunset with his loved one, thinking of the past, the present, and about what the future will bring...

Dialogue in Russian translation :

Officer : This means you betrayed us, Bobrov!

Ivan : No Lisov, we were all betrayed by Guba, in his insanity he thought he could fight the Americans on his own!

Update :

Only one mission to make left, work on the campaign is going really well!

In the meantime I made a new gameplay teaser for everybody waiting for Everon 1995 :

Many would like the status quo on Everon to last, but that is simply impossible.

War will erupt once again, and the price of victory will be high - This is the Final Fate!

Update :

Work is going well, only a few outro cutscenes to do left. The Beta version should be releasing pretty soon. Some time after that, when the campaign is polished enough, the full version will go live.

For now I got a gift for everybody waiting :)

A new trailer (This time I decided to give some love to the U.S. Army faction, and introduce a pretty important character.) :

Colonel Bowman is a professional and highly skilled officer of the U.S. Army. A veteran of Operation Desert Storm, drill instructor and counter-insurgency specialist, he is a force to be reckoned with.  Now, in 1995, he commands the U.S. Army forces on Everon. His goal is simple : Destroy the enemies of the United States, and bring peace back to the island.

Update

The campaign is nearly done! Version 1.0 will be released on the 1st of July. Before that, the beta version will be released in a limited manner. Anybody who wants to try the beta, please send me a private message and I will give you a link. The Beta Version should be uploaded next monday.

The Beta Version will not be a public release due to the need for me to fully test it myself, and due to the fact of a few limitations that include :

- No subtitles in cutscenes and missions (Only Radio and lines in Russian)

- Too loud/too quiet voices and music

- Possible bugs,  too hard or easy missions

- Less details then there will be in version 1.0

Keep this is mind if you do decide to send me a message about trying the beta. It would be great if somebody was interested in helping me test this campaign, but keep in mind the above issues.

Some generic info about the campaign :

There are 25 missions, about 20 stand alone cutscenes, and intro/outro for most missions. This campaign is very story driven, a bit movie-esque,  the story line itself turned out to be even a bit anime-esque, meaning not always realistic. Most missions are pretty realistic military operations, but the story line - not so much.

So yeah, there is a lot of sitting and watching cutscenes, but I have never been a fan of simplistic good guys vs bad guys shoot them up type campaigns. So if you like a good story and you don't mind listening to dialogues, then I think you will like Everon 1995.

Here is the last promotional video for Everon 1995, a pre-release trailer, showing everything I could without spoiling the story, enjoy :)

For years they have fought to be heard on Everon, but their voice was ignored. Now they will rise, and with them, war.

The Last Awakening is about to begin, but will it be worth it?

Russian dialogue traslation :

- It has begun

- What has begun, Vladimir Yevgenevich?

- Our revenge, Dobarov.

Update Version 1.0 is still work in progress, mainly polishing stuff, fixing minor bugs, correcting spelling mistakes, adding more details etc.

But I don't want to delay the release once again, so I decided to release version 0.9. It will be uploaded later today, or Friday by the latest.

Version 0.9 is basically a less polished build of version 1.0, but it is fully playable. Version 1.0 with extras (Walkthrough, detailed readme, etc.) will be released sometime during the next two weeks.

Da flag...

Yeah, I just noticed it looks pretty crap, will have to remake that screenshot in the next version lol

Anyway, I got great news to anybody waiting for Everon 1995. Version 0.9 has been uploaded, the link is in the first post, under the section "Release."

Have fun, and thank you for your patience. To be honest I thought it wouldn't take this long to make this campaign, but I believe it's better not to rush things, as they tend not to be that good.

Just remember, version 0.9 is not as polished or detailed as version 1.0 will be, so try not to judge it too harshly.

P.S. The first few missions might be a bit simplistic, but the further you go, the better the campaign gets.

Update :

Work on version 1.0 has been going a bit slow, as I was busy with a few other things. But now everything is going forward,

and I can safely say version 1.0 will be released on the 1st of August.

Update : After 8 months of work, and many up and downs, version 1.0 of Everon 1995 has been released, the download link in in the first post. Thank you for your support, it really kept me motivated on working on this project, sometimes even up to 8 hours on a free day.

Version 1.0 is not perfect, so there will be future updates, but it's fully playable and mostly bug free.

I wish you a great and fun experience with this campaign 🙂

PS. If you have the time, could you please report any bugs you find in the campaign so I can fix them in future updates, thank you 🙂

Update : I have released a new update of Everon 1995, version 1.2. I fixed some bugs, spelling problems etc. Some issues like the too loud/quiet voices remain, they will be sorted out in future updates, for which I plan to re-record some voice lines.

I hope the people who played my campaign enjoyed it, and to those who have yet to play it, have fun with version 1.2 🙂

Download link for version 1.2 is in the first post of the thread.

I have progressed to the sixth mission. It seemed great. I hope in later versions the objectives could be more specified, not only "capture xxx". And there should be weapon options before the mission if it is able to edit it in the mission editor. By the way, shooting a helicopter with a T55 isn't hard, just be the commander and order the gunner lock on the chopper and when it gets close shoot it with sabot. Anton's first mission is really challenging and fun.

Another advice, in the first Anton's mission mentioned above, it is needed to destroy all Bradleys to seize Montignac. But if you could change the trigger, make it only required to kill every enemy soldiers in Motignac, players could use 30mm cannon on Bradley to shoot down the choppers. That's what I always do if using bradleys to deal with choppers.

Some of the missions will be reworked in future versions. As I am a one man team my goal was to create a fully playable campaign, make it as bug free as possible, and then make it better, adding more and more stuff. There will definitely be 2-3 more updates for Everon 1995 depending on my free time. Yeah, I noticed you can do that with tanks, forgot about it when I was making the mission. A little tip, the later missions are more detailed, the few first ones, up to mission 8 have some issues as they were made after getting back into mission editing after a long break.

Spoiler warning for anybody reading this reply!

Spoiler

I don't think I can change that, as it is specified in the story that the previous resistance attack on Montignac failed due to enemy armor. So Anton is ordered to neutralize these vehicles before another infantry attack is attempted. I could however try to change the trigger to empty vehicle instead of destroyed in future versions, so if you could get the crew to flee without fully destroying a Bradley, you could repair it with the repair truck and use it 😉

I hope you enjoy the rest of Everon 1995 KZMW, and I hope to see future feedback from you and anybody else playing my campaign 🙂

Another advice: add more cutscenes on Kolgujev, such as handling weapons and gears 🙂

(Spoiler warning!)

Also a question, in the mission Ivan was sent to Malden with James and he was ordered to destroy the m113s. Are there four of them? I have been stuck at the mission for a few days. After discovering and destroying every of them, the mission doesn't end. Also, since I don't have a num keyboard, no codes for cheating could be used... I wonder if it is necessary to destroy reinforcements of them after enemies heard the explosion, including a OH-58 and two tanks and the airborne troops sent after the first reinforcement.

(I am playing the old version simply because I don't want to revert them... If you this is a bug and you have fixed it, it's OK.)

Overall your campaign is excellent, much better than Red Hammer and it is as outstanding as Resistance and 1985, just like made professionally by Bohemia interactive except the dubbing (I know you are alone so that has been the best you could do:) )and weapon options prior to the start of the missions (is that editable through mission editor?). I especially appreciate the cutscenes of this campaign which made the narrative of the stories complete.

Thank you The Matmus, I hope more parts of the nostalgia project will be released.
