Update - WIP

Hey guys, my Current position and Sitrep:

  • Currently at Editor, Files, Missions, & Mods category, from there and down all need descriptions, color, and to be linked.
  • Above Editor, Files, Missions, & Mods - all tools linked, descriptions added with font size and color.
  • All categories now have spoilers, along with their subcategories and bulleted as well.

Notes on layout and structure

Looking at the number of sub/categories and the listings contained, i may consider doing the following with my reasons after:

  • Increase the size of each tool name, description for them remains the same.
  • Increase the size by 1-2 font sizes for each category.

Reasons

Increasing the font size of each listing (tool) would allow that tool/s to standout more, easier to see, idea here is to lower the

time it takes to read and acquire the information being viewed.

Increasing category font size, this im debating on as if i increase the size then it may add to the time it takes to scroll the page

overall what i want to accomplish is for a would be searcher/reviewer to be able to glance at the category and know and have an idea

of what their looking at, then being able to make a decision based on what they need or want to see.

Notes Everything is about saving time - my compiling method

Consolidation of all tools into one place

Saves ALOT of time, as you and i know searching can take from hours, to weeks for something you need/want

and may allow you to find something you never seen before and may be useful for you.

Sorting & Categorizing based on subject

Saves alot of time because its specific to what a tool is for, so if your looking for a particular tool then its alot

easier to locate it if its within an are with the same type of tools.

Alphabetical ordering

Saves alot of time because it not only flows in one direction, its intuitive to how we've think - feet forward, looking ahead,

unalphabetized order is like reading a book thats written from right to left for people that learn to read/write from left to right its counter intuitive to us,

it would be same for those of you who learned the other way, so for the sake of how we been taught its functional.

Listings in spoilers

Saves alot of time as it condenses the listings and their information, thereby shrinking the entire compilation and reducing the time it takes to scroll the page.

Unless you like sitting there and spending all your free time scrolling a mile long page, as a matter of priority to be efficient.

Accurate, and specific but in general common knowledge

The real challenge and the hardest part of compiling is with tools when bookmarking them is

trying to determine what they were, and where to put them as you want to be accurate when creating a category.

A category is the container of listings, so it's important to use a common general use of words that everyone is familiar with but also to be accurate as to

what a specific category is for and the audience that its based for.

=============

All for this report currently.

one question though: why not making part of the BIKI, so others can assist too?

Mod updater is missing Arma3Sync, you have Swifty in there which is also a launcher/updater. I consider a3s more like a updater than a launcher.

classes&configs should link AIO config, and the AIO export script stuff.

Also for addon making tools DokanPbo should make a appearance somewhere, way too few people know that it exists.

Why do you redirect everything via tinyurl? I don't see any sense in that, people just click links here, no reason for a seperate redirect making the site load slower.

Also people don't know where a link will go to before they click.

Also you put

https://tinyurl.com/pubvk27

instead of

https://www.blender.org/

? I don't understand, the tinyURL link is LONGER, and harder to remember/note down.

Thanks EO and your welcome, doing my part to support and help the community.

I will add those two to the list, i do recognize those, and idk how i missed them because i dont recall seeing them

on armaholic as i would have bookmarked them but thanks for letting me know.

I'm not to fond of the biki's coding tbh, and i prefer that the list be on the forum itself and not on another site, if new

and regulars/veterans are already here, then in my mind its more efficient to have the list where everyone is already at.

Also its alot faster for me to list the amount of items on a post which is simpler then mess with code, i've done it so much that

i have a certain system for doing it that allows me to get alot done in less time.

Lastly i prefer to have the feedback and interaction, just like EO mentioned and Dedman's suggestions and points, plus its my work

I have certain principles i abide by when it comes to compiling that i have been evolving over the past 10yrs, so based on the forum limitation and setup

by design i have created what i wanted based on those principles, i also dont like people messing with my work, i do things a certain way for a reason.

Its under launchers, as i use armasync myself only to start arma3, it can be both a launcher and updater, so i could also add it to the mod updater category.

Thanks for those, i will add them to the list, and make some more adjustments.

You guys are always welcome to point some things out about some of the code, script tools as alot of those were a bit confusing

as i was at first trying to determine what they do, and from there what name for a category would best fit to put them in.

7 hours ago, Dedmen said:

Why do you redirect everything via tinyurl?

Character limitation within a post, i ran into it with my AI compilation list a couple yrs ago, the limit is a 100,000 characters, and i had exactly as you

were saying just put the links of where the items are, well when i did that, i had to redo, and rearrange alot of stuff just to make it work.

Because of that, i ended up with 2 pages worth of lists, when i swapped all the links out for tinyurl i was able to reduce the

character limit quite a bit, and it works as since i had implemented that i still have been able to keep on adding alot of new listings to the thread to this day.

On a sidenote, i actually got that idea from Kju 😄

i know it would probably seem more relevant to that list for the AI as people are always asking about AI this or that, and tools are a whole nother thing.

Im sure at some point i wont ever reach that character limit because theres only so many tools, but i prefer to maintain that, its just preventative maintainance.

7 hours ago, Dedmen said:

Also people don't know where a link will go to before they click.

So your saying i cant be trusted?

i get what your saying for the sake of information, but about 80% of all the tools in the list are on armaholic,

the other amount of tools are on the forums here in this section, and then theres some misc sites that were created from the community, if you want certain links to

point to their respective sites i can change them, but im not going to change the whole list, just right click and open the link in a new tab.

It's a simple mistake, when i was doing that section i had only so much time before i had to go

i wanted to get 2-3 categories completed, however i see what your saying i didn't really look at it as i was flying through the links as

fast as i could. I can fix it.

How do people manage to post several MB of RPT into here with that limit 🤔

I don't think splitting across two posts is a problem.

Idk, its possible in the forum upgrades in 2018 expanded that limit, as i ran into that limit just before 2018 started.

I tell you what i slept on the idea as i had to get to bed right after i made my previous post, and you made a good point aside my own reason

of that theres only so many tools, and i have i would think almost all of them including the ones you and EO pointed out, and unlike my AI compilation list thread

this list wont have constant updates with alot of new content, so i will go back and update the links and

reestablish the original links.

Heres what i will doing before i do that:

  1. Add to the thread the tools you and EO posted about.
  2. Fix the couple of tools you had mentioned.
  3. Finish the remaining list only linking the tools to their original links/sites.
5 hours ago, Dedmen said:

Depends on how you do it, i had split my AI compilation list into posts and pages and then linked them, they

currently are based on two subjects in the compilation which works, but the thread section itself, imo but taking an existing subject

and forcing the reader to go to another page when they are searching for something wastes time.

Its already hard enough that with such a massive community creating information of whatever throughout the forums and sites, that

all the information be it whatever subject is all over the place, it takes alot of time to locate something based on what your looking for,

for what your trying to do, depending on what it is.

The purpose of my lists are to consolidate this information into one location,  currently i have 5 lists, actually alot more then that, but major lists

none the less, and they are split among the forum here which in my next project sssh cant reveal til its ready will compile everything into one place, one central location.

idk about you and anyone else but i hate chasing after stuff, in this day and age in how we want things instantly or quickly, imo it only

fits the reasoning of that overall its just more efficient, time is precious, would you rather spend hours to days, to weeks looking for something, or would you

rather spend several minutes and find what your looking for and do what your looking to do and enjoy the game, thats the idea.

5 hours ago, Dedmen said:

trust noone. Everyones account could get hacked at any point.

Sounds like your paranoid, i think my record what i've done and for the community here proves im trustworthy enough,

regardless antivirus is your friend, but i get what your pointing at, so like i said i will update all the links when i get to it

to provide the info for the links of each tool.

Question

What are yours or anyone's thoughts on the tools listed with Alpha and beta as they were created during those early phases of the game

would any of those tools be actually functional based on the current games state of code and architecture, and if so would they still be useful or

are there better tools now that do a more efficient job with more features that could be used instead?

I meant instead of just using your first post here, edit your second post to contain the second part of the list. Such that everything is still one continous list, but across two posts.

"Forward-porting Arma 2 content to Arma 3 [ALPHA]" for example isn't useful anymore really.. People just install the CUP mods and already get everything, instead of copying A2 files over manually.

"Arma 3 Launcher [ALPHA]" well it exists, but I don't think it (same as other very simple launchers) serves any purpose anymore, we now have the Launcher included in Arma 3, and this one has way less features so noone would use that anymore.

"In-game debugging tools [ALPHA]" Arma has a integrated debug console which can already do that, no purpose for some old mod for 2013 to do what the game already does for you.

"SPUNs Color Picker" is a desktop tool to pick colors. https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/222104-color-picker/ here is a in-game color picker.

"Hex to A3 calculator" A very old desktop executable, in an age where that could also be done on a portable tiny website tool. And also its bugged "[0,0,01]" instead of "[0,0,0,1]" Don't see why anyone would ever want to use that.

As a matter of fact.. Here.. 10 minutes of work https://color.arma3.io

"Multi-Image2PAA" is useless now, we have a tool that does exactly that in the Arma 3 Tools package.

"CallExtension v2.0 - Extension Callback." we already have callbacks in the vanilla game, no need for that.

"Grimes' Random Array Function" I don't see any use for that, we have selectRandom and deleteAt script commands, this whole stuff can be replaced by two lines of vanilla SQF script, might ahve been useful in 2014, but almost 6 years later.. not really.

"Python SQF NewLine/Indenter Script" not sure what this is really useful for.. But there is a online tool for that. https://sqfvm.arma3.io

"Tabler - Arma 3 Translation Helper" why is that under "Indents&Parsers"? Thats a stringtable tool, and the github link on armaholic is wrong.

Why are there 4 notepad++ things, out of which 3 are about 5 years out of date? New commands being added means that outdated highlighters are basically useless, don't see any reason to mention them here.

"ArmA3Mark [BETA]" YAAB is the de-facto standard for benchmarking. The author of Arma3Mark has been gone for 3 years and the BIF thread is dead for 4 years.

Thats not Arma3Net, Arma2Net is a library to run .net extensions. What you linked there is just a extension which uses Arma2Net.

FSF FreeDee CSV To SQM - ARMA3 tool to export CSV File from Free dee Addons to mission.sqm

That is from 2014, so at most it uses the pre-3DEN mission.sqm format and is thus kinda outdated. Also that seems to be something specifically for that guys addons and not really useful for the general public.

The author is also gone for about 4 years, and the BIF thread has been dead for 5 years with the last messages stating that the thing is broken and doesn't work.

Why are there png files under "Mission File Tools"?

"Online Squad.xml Editor - WebApp" That is really just a online squad-xml hoster. And squads are a unit thing, not a "Mission Tool", and totally not a "Mission File Tool" at all.

"MdhClassReplace" Notepad++ and every major text editor has a "replace text in files" feature, which essentially replaces this.

"Arma 3 Alpha to Beta Mission Converter [BETA]" Who still has Arma Alpha mission files that he wants to convert? And who would want to convert to Beta, we have the new 3DEN mission format now which is different again.

"Ar3play" Thats a server side AAR tool, not a mission tool.

"Guillotine tool" Nowadays people just install a headless mod, or copy-paste a headless script into their missions.

"ExecuteEverything" this is essentially just a very spartan debug console, while we already have a much better one in Arma 3 vanilla.

"Particle Editor [ALPHA]" no reason for someone to use a 6+ year old particle editor tool, while we have a current, and actively developed tool available https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/221163-emitter-3ditor/

"LEA" definitely a nice tool, but its missing all the items/weapons that were added since in the last... 4 years. And it has been made completely obsolete by the integration of Arsenal into the game.

Fun fact, I made my own loadout editor back in the time, which could automatically parse Arma files and all loaded mods and thus always have all latest items available, but I scrapped it because Arsenal came to be.

"Addons & Pbos" I find it weird that none of mikeros tools, which literally every non-amateur mod maker uses, are mentioned anywhere.

"Launcher and Addons Synchronization" no mention of Arma3Sync?

"Server Creation" and "Administration" are basically the same.

"ExtDB-Plus" huh? never heard of it.
"This is based off of work done by the original author, Torndeco; who unfortunately has decided to pull his work down. We aim to continue providing support, bug fixes and binary releases of the original work."

Ah, its just a copy of extDB, that hasn't been updated since early 2015 (the author also hasn't been online since then), while Torndecos extDB has been continously updated/maintained since then and is now at extDB3.

Don't think that makes much sense on this list.

"IniDB [ ALPHA]" that has been replaced by INIDBI2, which is actively maintained and not abandoned for 6+ years like IniDB.

I meant instead of just using your first post here, edit your second post to contain the second part of the list. Such that everything is still one continous list, but across two posts.

i See what your saying but that wasn't possible as there were other replies to the thread after the initial post, also i didn't run into the issue til late 2017 and the thread was posted in 2014.

Where are you reading that ? ---> A fully working, open-source Virtual Machine for the scripting language of the ArmA Games.

I never said that anywhere and idk even know what your referring too, the descriptions after each tool is what i copied from

the page or thread that described the tool.

3 hours ago, Dedmen said:

Why are you asking me, i didn't post them on armaholic, their under tools there, so i bookmarked them, and put them in the list.

Like i said in my first update, there are a number of tools/utilities i had a hard time trying to understand what they were, and where to put them

as in create a category for them, and im not referring to notepad++ specifically.

3 hours ago, Dedmen said:

Tell the guy that posted it on armaholic, i only put down what was there, wtf do i know, im compiling the tools remember, all im doing is copying and pasting,

sorting, condensing and putting all the tools in one place, im not naming the tools, or the titles for them, or writing any descriptions, its copy and paste

and moving them to certain categories based on what they do, all i did.

If the person posting the tool on armaholic gives a description on what its for and what it does, then i post it, whether hes right or wrong about his labeling, or description of the tool is on him

like i said im a compiler, i dont code, i dont script, ect,. i compile, thats all i've done, since i joined the forum, aside some missions, and other misc things, if something is wrong just point it out

and explain it so i have it correct in my compilation.

3 hours ago, Dedmen said:

Its under utilities on armaholic, thats where the guy posted it, its supposed to be an interactive map for something, so i listed it, idk

if anyone would find it useful and today where we are i dont see the point of it, but maybe look at the page its on and see, as the same

guy posted 3 of the maps.

3 hours ago, Dedmen said:

Thanks for pointing that out, i do have it bookmarked among other tools that arent listed but apparently the name never copied

to the post for some reason, idk why.

See my bookmarks  that didn't copy over ---> screenshot

The name of the tool is on the left and thats what gets posted on the forum, then once i put them where they go into a

category then i have to add the link which you can see on the right to the name of the tool, i wish the name would be embedded

with the link as soon as i place it, it would save me alot of time.

Armasync is under the Launchers category, but i can add it there too.

Overall thanks for the feedback and notes on the tools Dedmen, and Tankbuster, i will go over my list and make adjustments accordingly, and any question's i'll be sure to ask.

Lots of garbage is on armaholic. Even stuff that gets uploaded there by armaholic stuff without any permission whatsoever. There is some of my stuff on there, I never gave permission of it to be reuploaded anywhere.

Armaholic staff doesn't care.

Armaholic also has TFAR 0.9.13, even though that version never did, and never will exist.

In short, don't trust anything on Armaholic.

I agree, but copying and pasting isn't exactly what im doing even though thats what i said, thats just part one large part of the process to create a list

which took alot of time to collect all the tools, and more a challenge to look at every tool and description to understand what they were for and determine

how and in what to categorize them.

With your feedback i think the thread has improved quite a bit already, much appreciated, still more to do obviously so if theres any

other tools, or even category names that could be adjusted let me know and reason for it. I'll get back to this in my next freetime.

[E2TB] Export To Terrain Builder - a small module for Arma 3 that allows you to export data to Terrain Builder in .lbt file format.

That's wrong, it exports to clipboard so you can paste into a .txt file not .lbt. And its used for replacing the built in exporters for eden and x-cam which don't work correct for some rotations.

You are also missing ObjectPlacementTBH from Terrain & Maps, https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=1242712395

Tell that to the author then

 http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=33393

as i only put down his brief description from the page there, tell him on his release thread

https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/topic/211278-e2tb-export-to-terrain-builder/

he was last on October 17th.

I'm only compiling the tools here not making up the descriptions, or the names of the tools, please understand that,

make up your minds what the tools do and give me the correct functional description for the tool if i should list them.

Update

Like i said i grabbed the brief description at the top of the page on armaholic, and added it to the list for the tool

you said its wrong, and now he's correct, or what?

The point of the description for the tool is to describe briefly what it does, on his SW page you linked, the how does it work is a process of using the tool

which is not what i need as it dont tell me anything about the overall concept and function of the tool.

As he has on the top of the page

"E2TB is a small module for Arma 3 that allows you to export data to Terrain Builder."

I could use that if you deem that to be correct.

Update

The WIP aspect of the list is completed, all urls that were previously linked as tinyurls have been reverted to their original links.

I still need to do a search on steam workshop but i will add anything i find to the list as an update.

This took me a bit longer to finish as my real life rather my full time job currently has me doing 12-16hr nights, along with Saturdays

and some Sundays which is against the labor laws here, wtf :h:

Anyways hope this list will help those looking for tools better find what their looking for, all for now. Cheers!

Update

Added new tools from Steam Workshop

Ammoboxes & Loadouts, Composition Tools, Missions Tools, & Files

Mission Tools

  • A3_HideAssetsFromEditor - Hides all A3 assets from BI from the editor and arsenal (infantry, vehicles, objects, buildings, etc). This is useful if you want to do missions or check out assets from third party mods, and unclutter the editor/arsenal.
  • Achilles - a gameplay modification for Arma 3. It expands the Zeus real-time editor with many new additions as well as provides bug fixes.
  • Ares - Ares is a mod aimed expanding the tools available to Zeus so that it is possible to create more varied and compelling missions. The goal is to add simple useful functionality to Zeus without requiring any extra mods running on other clients or the server.
  • Class Editor - Allows to you to edit the classes of units ingame.
  • CompoT - CompoT is a toolset designed for mission/addon makers to place and manipulate objects. CompoT is integrated directly into Eden mission editor, allowing you to place most ArmA 3 buildings and objects seamlessly, while normal mission making.

  • CompoT_dev - CompoT is a toolset designed for mission/addon makers to place and manipulate objects. CompoT is integrated directly into Eden mission editor, allowing you to place most ArmA 3 buildings and objects seamlessly, while normal mission making.

  • Disable 3den Mission Preview Shortcut - In case you hit the enter keys too often and accidentally start the mission this mod is for you. It disables exactly that.
  • Easy Editor Tools - This is an accumulation of scripts available via the action menu to assist in mission creation.
  • Emitter 3Ditor - Add and use particle and light emitters in your scenarios without any scripting.
  • GCam Cinematic Camera Tool - Allows you to create cinematics for your missions or videos.
  • LRG Fundamentals - is a complete mission makers tool, used to create complex missions with ease. Using the huge Library of functions, settings and modules you can create almost any type of mission.
  • MCC Sandbox 4 - Mission Making The Easy Way - You can create missions without any scripting knowladge and alter them in while in game. You can save your missions and share with friends.
  • MGI ADVANCED MODULES - Pack of modules for mission writters. SP/MP compatible.
  • MGI Tactical Pack V3 - This add-on is a pack of tools such as AUTO-REPACK, FATIGUE MANAGER, ENHANCED GPS, ENHANCED MAP TOOLS, TACTICAL ICONS, ARSENAL TEST, HALO JUMP,.. and much more!
  • MRHMilsimTools - Optionals - RHS_CBPS - adds the possibility to spawn compositions when the CBPS tent is deployed on RHSUSAF CBPS medical vehicle. Compositions can be assigned via CBA options menu.
  • Post Process Effect Editor - A mission for editing, viewing and exporting post process effects, and exporting them your mission or mod.

  • Show Object ID's Eden plugin - This mod allows you to toggle map ID markers in 3DEN editor.
  • TCS BattleTracker - arma 3 mod that allows capture and playback of missions.
  • Werthles Headless Kit v2.3 - Headless client: Arma game copy that just plays AI units. HCs can process AIs on separate machines, so servers can handle 100s more AIs with human players.

  • Werthles' Headless Module - Headless client: Arma game copy that just plays AI units. HCs can process AIs on separate machines, so servers can handle 100s more AIs with human players.

  • 7erra's Editing Extensions - Makes creating missions easier. It massively extends the features of the debug console, the 3den Editor, and the Config Viewer while creating no dependency for the client.

Composition Tools

  • CUP Compositions - add the original ArmA II ObjectCompositions to ArmA III so that they can be used in connection with CUP Mod.

Coding, Configs, & Scripting

Generators

  • Drongo's Config Generator - a simple addon designed to allow the quick and easy creation of new factions (using existing assets). It is editor/loadout based and mostly WYSIWYG. It generates complete config.cpp files ready to be built into .pbo files.
  • Loot Table Generator - The class name system of Arma is often confusing and hard to use if you search for a specific item. The Virtual Arsenal improved that situation but if you need to configure large amounts of items it’s the wrong tool. This Mission spawns all weapons and usable items and allows a fast selection of items.

Debugging & Error Checkers

  • Arma-ofstream - This Intercept-based addon lets you output debug text to multiple files.
  • NSS Admin Console - This is an Administrating / Debugging / Mission development tool.
  • SVDEBUG - A simple mod tool to debug mission on Arma 3

GUI & UI

  • Enhanced Video Settings - EVS expands the graphics options with simple config changes.
  • GUI_GRID Fix - The current GUI_GRID variable used by the GUI Editor is broken. This mod fixes it by adjusting some values. The GUI_GRID variable is also used by every ArmA3 dialog/display as it has some advantages over the safeZone-only variable.
  • Unlock View Distance - Allows changing the overall and object view distances in missions which override your personal video options.

Maps & Terrain

  • Arma 3 Non Editor Objects - a small mod that aims to add "hidden" objects to the 3DEN Editor for mission makers and terrain builders to make use of them.
  • A3_ApplyEnochWorldSetupToVanillaA3Terrains - Applies Enoch world configuration (mainly terrain lighting, water surfaces, environment sounds) to vanilla terrains (Stratis, Altis, Malden, Tanoa) and all community terrains inheriting from those (and not customizing the following parameters).
  • A3_ShowEnochObjects - Makes all street signs from Enoch available in the Editor. This also enables the street signs for X-Cam, MapBuilder and ObjectPlacement TBH.
  • A3_ShowEnochVegetation - Makes all vegetation (clutter, bushes, trees) from Enoch available in the Editor.
  • Edaly Tools Template - Tools for '' Terrain Makers '' allow the addition of inaccessible object in 3DenEditor to diversify the mapping and facilitate the export in TerrainBuilder.

Server Tools

Administration & Server creation

  • A3_HidePlayableContent - Hides all A3 SP and MP missions and campaigns from BI. This is useful if you want to unclutter the mission selection.
  • AZM Admin Gui - Allows you to execute various commands ingame during mp as an admin.
  • VTS 4.0 - Live Multiplayer Mission Creating Tool for A3 - VTS allow the Game master(s) to create multiplayers cooperatives missions in real time (players connected). with a lot of short cuts to make it quickly.
