FSPilot 0 Posted January 9, 2003 I heard that some environmentalists were opposed to this law, said it would actually bring about more pollution. But I think it was just a knee-jerk reaction as most everyone else, including some environmentalists agree with the new law. Then again it may of been another law entirely I'm thinking of. ralphwiggum 6 Posted January 9, 2003 i didn't go through the whole news article, but know what its about. the concept has been talked about in economics arena for sometime. basically, what the law will do is, it will set a limit/ceilling about how much pollution can be made as a whole entity. like 25 units of pollution per company or so. if a company needs more pollution, they need to buy the right from someone who is willing to sell the quota they are not going to use. this idea has been seen as the most efficient way to curb force pollution proliferation. the down side is that there is no good way to measure pollution and have definition of it, and as always, when money and human are involved, the system can be abused(can't think of one right now, but as time goes on, it will happen). ACES_KEVIN 0 Posted January 9, 2003 I also know aomewhat about this law been hearing about for some time now, it sounds great really good, ON PAPER. I dont think that what is currently proposed will truly work in the real world. It will turn that greedy bastard who doesnt wan tot buy his polution, into a criminal who will go to great lengths to desguise, hide, and dispose of it. Ya ok you say the government has agencies to regulate them, but when it gets insane , it starts costing more and more taxpayers money to regulate these bastards. I think it could help, but im not sure it will totaly work. There are always those few people everywere who try and screw a good thing up for every1. We will see tho. I hope it works out. Especially because you can buy "pollution points". Does anyone know if there's a limit to the total pollution points available? Or can anyone who has the right money pollute all s/he wants? ralphwiggum 6 Posted January 10, 2003 well, first, i'm not that enthusiastic about this new measure, but i'm not opposing it either. i think we can give it a shot. as Paratrooper said, there will be chance of firms abusing it. however, gov't regulations, if htey are toughened, will deter that. Just because 1 or 2 or maybe even a few big american corporations fall subject to corrupt leadership now all american business cant regulate themselves... Do the people opposed to environmentalists honestly believe that pollution will have no effect on the world whatsoever? Do they believe that god will save us or what?
