ego-R 0 Posted January 5, 2003 I can play the game normally until I install Resistance. I have OFP/Gold Upgrade installed and patched up to 1.46. I haven't found any information about this bug/problem anywhere except two topics in this forum that did not resolve my problem. Any information or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I wanna play resistance!
theavonlady 2 Posted January 5, 2003 Do all the other programs on your system work normally with the keyboard? If you borrow a keyboard from a friend/neighbor, does the problem still occur?
ego-R 0 Posted January 6, 2003 I dont have trouble with any other program. I'll try a different keyboard.
ego-R 0 Posted January 6, 2003 Yep, swapped keyboards, still same problem.
Mister Frag 0 Posted January 6, 2003 Have you tried running the DirectX Diagnostics (DXDIAG.EXE) to see if it reports anything unusual? You may need to reinstall DirectX.
ego-R 0 Posted January 6, 2003 Dxdiag does not report anything abnormal. I will try reinstalling Direct X anyway.
ego-R 0 Posted January 6, 2003 Updated to DX9. Still same problem.
theavonlady 2 Posted January 6, 2003 Do you have any other input or gaming devices connected to your PC? What version of OFP are you (not) running? You may have to try reinstalling.
ralphwiggum 6 Posted January 6, 2003 just a pot shot guess. do you use USB based keyboard? do you have some sort of driver that is related to keyboard that has certain "easy-to-use" function in it? i.e. using something on control panel to create shot cut keys like 'connect to internet' and so forth? what brand is your PC and keyboard? i don't know if they are related or not, and even if they are i don't have the answer, but just wanted to help. ego-R 0 Posted January 7, 2003 I have an IBM 4 button USB optical mouse connected through a PS2 adapter. My keyboard is an IBM PS2 keyboard that I have had for about 6 years. I do not have any other "gaming devices" installed on this machine but I have had in the past. I dont have any special software for my keyboard or mouse. They are both the default windows drivers. The version of OFP that the game reports at the title screen is 1.46. I have the original game installed, and the gold upgrade. When I install Resistance, it crashes when I touch my keyboard. If I uninstall Resistance, I can play the game just fine with my keyboard and everything works perfectly. Avonlady, when you say reinstall, are you referring to reinstalling the game, or windows 2000?
ego-R 0 Posted January 7, 2003 I want to thank all of you for the help you've given me thus far. I hope we can find a solution.

If you decide to uninstall, make sure you uninstall Resistance before the earlier OFP version. Search The FAQ for "reinstall ofp" for a recommended reinstall procedure. ego-R 0 Posted January 10, 2003 Well due to hardware failure I had to reinstall windows 2000. I reinstalled the game and everything works perfectly at v1.75 I'm going to patch up now, crossing my fingers.
Mister Frag 0 Posted January 10, 2003 I'd make a backup of OFP first, either on CD-R or by making a copy of the folder. That way you can easily go back if you have to.

What failed? 2. How did you fix it?
ego-R 0 Posted January 12, 2003 I was in the middle of everquest and the game paused for about 10 seconds. During this time the IDE light was solid red. After that, I get a stop error (the ntkernl kind) and rebooted. The system could not find a boot record or any of the system files. I tried a lot of things and eventually had to resort to using a bootable win 98 floppy. Every time I tried to boot using the universal CDRom driver, the computer would freeze the moment it scanned the IDE bus. I isolated the trouble to my CDRW. I installed a spare CDRom and was able to boot properly. Windows 2000 installation could not repair the problem even with a proper emergency repair disk. So I had to reinstall. Which is a good thing because now I'm enjoying a clean system and I'm having a lot of fun with OFP: Resistance! What troubles me is that my CDRW works in another machine. I haven't tried using the same bootdisk with it. It's all screwy and I don't really have the time to monkey with it. I'd rather buy a new one than spend hours trying to diagnose the problem. Anybody have any ideas what might have happened? I can provide exact system hardware specifications if necessary.
