Removal of aiming dot on Pawnee windshield

Recommended Posts

Dear BI team,

I love flying helicopters in Arma3 with a passion but the black aiming dot which was added to the Pawnee windshield is truly effecting my enjoyment of just flying around. Your eye is always pulled to that spot.

The aiming dot is a good idea for combat flying but can you please make this an option rather than a mandate.

I would really appreciate it if someone from the BI team could tell me how to get rid of it.

I know you guys are busy so any support on this welcome. Please get me flying happy again.

From the latest SPOTREP:

"Changed: MH-9 no longer has a crosshair. A new section was added: aiming_dot. Now it can be retextured or removed using setObjectTexture (index 1)."

This should do it...

heli setObjectTextureGlobal [1, ""];

 Maff / Belbo,

Thank you very much for the information above.

Maff - My programming / tech skills are pretty basic. What do i need to do? An idiots guide would be greatly appreciated.

The easiest method would be to place down your MH-9 in the editor.

Double click the MH-9 and in the Init box put:

this setObjectTextureGlobal [1, ""];

OK

Sounds straight forward enough

I will try this tonight and let you know how it goes.

Appreciate your time and knowledge. Thank you.

Yes. Include "this".

So, copy and paste the below into the init box.

this setObjectTextureGlobal [1, ""];

Heads up, this command does not improve flying. Not one bit... 🙄

No worries!

The init box will be at the top of the main box that appears after you have double clicked the Pawnee.

Maff

I genuinely appreciate your time and patience with a dumb ass like myself. After months of trying to blank that black dot out of my vision its gone. I am a happy man this evening.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH

Hey, no worries.

You're going to miss that bit of windscreen graffiti!

I know this is an old post but what would the line be to get rid of it in UH-1H helicopters?  That line make half the heli invisible and keeps the circle in the windshield.  Any help is really appreciated

That depends on how the mod maker has setup their named-selections seeing as how there aren't any UH-1H's in game by default (to my knowledge). My advice would be to either try and experiment by changing the number in the init line (0, 2, 3, 4, 5 etc.) to see the results, but keep in mind it may not even be possible depending on how it was made in the first place...

Thanks for the reply, someone said that it would be easy to make a mod that takes it away.  This is beyond my knowledge.  I will say that circle sucks on the game, makes it unplayable...  no idea why they put it there.

Theoretically it would be easy IF the original author has given the area the texture is defined to a name selection. If they have not then you're SOL.
