How much your FPS drop, with smoke grenades?

Simple test:

In vanilla Arma, place an ammo bearer at salt lake on Altis (not too much objects, here). In Editor, change its loadout for a bunch of smoke grenades.

Preview and throw grenades.

 

Before throwing, I got something like 90 FPS

Throwing 2 grenades, not too far, FPS drop to 70,

Continue throwing up to 6 grenades, FPS drop to 40

Walking inside the smoke, FPS fall down to 10 !!

 

Config:

CPU i7-7700K @ 4.20 GHz

video : NVidia GTX 970

Arma on SSD, 8 GB RAM

 

All video settings to ultra or max and:

AO: HBAO + medium

FSAA: 8x

ATOC: all trees + grass

PPAA: CMAA

Why not just check in VR? Even less objects there. I'll see if I can check this tonight.

There are more places with the fall of FPS. Two videos with a problem effect, where there is a ~50% drop in FPS.
The fall of the FPS on the effect of a machine gun shot and explosive bullets.

The fall of the FPS from the sight of the surface of the water through the sight of any vehicle (on which there are optical sights).

Vanilla Arma

 

Config:

AMD FX-8350 @ 3.92 GHz

Nvidia GTX 1070

24GB Ram. Arma on a HCC (Some bad/old Hitachi one)

 

 

All video settings to ultra or max and:

AO: HBAO+ Strong

FSAA: 8x

ATOC: all trees + grass

PPAA: SMAA Ultra

Aniso. filt: Ultra

 

 

Before throwing, I got something like 90 FPS

Throwing 2 grenades, not too far, FPS drop to 70,

Continue throwing up to 6 grenades, FPS drop to 40

Walking inside the smoke, FPS fall down to 10 !! 

 

No Grenade: 153fps
2 Grenades infront of me: 104fps
6 Grenades in front of me: 62fps
Walking inside the smoke: 66fps

So, FPS dramatically drop... and as far as there is no great mission in solo VR map, but most of the time MP holy mess, there is something to be done.

First of all, are there some settings to improve (blur, AO, PPAA?) I failed to obtain some improvements, blind testing.

I thought it's really just the amount of particles being spawned. Noticed the same with one of my custom smoke particles. Had to reduce the amount drastically to keep the fps in ~good~ range.
