How to keep Servers Updated when your modset is on the Workshop?

Recommended Posts

So until recently our group ran ArmA 3 sync and had a repository. It was great for keeping our servers up to date with exactly the same and correct mods.

Unfortunately we lost our server with the gigabit internet connection and thus our A3Sync Repo.

So our group has moved to the workshop, which isn't a bad option.

But I'm puzzled as to how I can get the mods onto our different servers (Dedi and headless client) without having to setup FTP on all of them and uploading the mods myself which will be very labor intensive especially for big updates like CUP Terrains and RHS.

So how do people update their mods normally to a dedicated server when the Steam Workshop is their primary way of downloading mods??

I use armaremoteadmin and it can download and update the steam workshop content. It's a nice service for reasonable cost.

first of all wrong subforum, belongs in https://forums.bohemia.net/forums/forum/159-arma-3-servers-administration/

there are scripts out there which provide the functionality of syncing steam workshop stuff with the dedicated server (linux and win), but they require a arma3 steam account (not anonymous like the dedicated package itself) with the mods allready subscribed... but in short its pain in the ass that way.

cup does it right and provide direct dl links http://cup-arma3.org/ other stuff like rhs is on armaholic (freespeed capped @400kb/s) or you find someone which hosts them directly

It's a pain in the arse if you don't have a steam account the server can run on. If you do, and getting that is no real hardship, it's the easiest way.

not steam account, steam account with arma3 licence on it, so if you want to buy another copy of arma3 only for downloading workshop mods @dedicated server, fine. nearly every other game let you dl workshop mods without the req. of a valid licence of game x on it. sure you could use your own account but that leads to a potential security risk even with 2fa auth etc enabled (hint: copypasta ssfn files...), so its retarded.

Yeah as soon as I posted it I realized I was posting on the wrong subforum.

I found FLAX's ArmA Server Tools - that seems to do a pretty good job logging in a downloading mods off the workshop. It isn't totally reliable with frequent time outs on large mods like RHS and CUP. But it eventually did the job.

I'll check out the scripts, thanks for the heads up.
