What is this?

Simply put, this modification is a re-texture mod, taking anything green, and making it white, as in snow! Roughly 12 hours ago from making this post I decided after I woke up to create something for the wintertime in Arma, thus here we are now with a new WIP mod, Winter 2035.

 

The current progress and milestones are as follows:

 

Retextured all plants

Retextured all mask images

Retextured Stratis satellite image

Retextured Altis satellite image

Integrated snowing based on overcast (its modified rain)

Winter-esque ambient sounds

Clutter models to create much more depth to the snow, these will also be large enough to overflow onto the sides of the roads

Retexture all vanilla units, weapons, vehicles (this will happen depending on the popularity of the mod)

Figure out a way to make roofs snowy (this is more then likely impossible, I dont touch the wrp or p3ds)

Modified CfgWorlds with new cloud and lighting to compliment snow

This mod will be overriding vanilla textures thus it will not be "compatible" with other modifications that wish to keep the arma flora OR mask images normal not-winter color, and is only meant to be used for terrains that are winter themed. The main reason that Stratis was done first and NOT Altis, simply put is that Stratis is a fraction the size and was much quicker to do. Altis will be done aswell however that will take atleast a few days of nonstop work, which doesnt help my add at all. I hope once released this mod will bring life back to splendid Altis & Stratis for other people as much as it has for me, with some winter gear mods I plan to have quite a few more missions on the islands!

Coming from a land of much winter, I approve of this mod.

 

Can you imagine the spinoff mods?

 

  • ArmA snow plowing mod
  • Slalom mod
  • Sauna simulator
  • Deadliest catch 2035
  • Zombie polar bears!

Looks great!  Do you plan on retextureing the roads to add snow, slush or something?  The clean roads look very distracting.  Keep up the great work Mike!

Im seeing about making snow clutter which will be large enough to sneak onto the roads to give the illusion that its been plowed, right now you can see it in the video below but its super dogshit

 

depending on the popularity of the modification i also may expand into unit retexturing so you wouldnt need to load many mods to have winter units, atleast vanilla unit retexturing, however I may port some arma 2 units and make them winter units, like the hoodie independents ect

and currently i dont have plans to do malden, way too much work to even do altis i do alot of other shit and this was started kinda on a whim

 

 

and last i was playing with the ambient sounds for a few mins last night, few more things to tweak but yerp (close your eyes when watching the vid its like 4 fps)

Looking at the screenshots, have you removed some clutter models?

Your probably aware that Altis/Stratis have some broken clutter models that suffer horrendous pop-in, this would be a great opportunity to remove them from this beautiful modification, although as I said, the screenshots are telling me there gone already.

atm theres no clutter really, i was gunna take some a2 models and texture them aswell as other little snow objects to make the surface seem more bumpy

 

the grass in the earlier screens is that short grass from a2 which is kinda bad

I've seen snow scripts before and I find that either they cause it to snow inside buildings and cars, or when you get into a car, the snow disappears completely. How does this snow work in these situations?

the snow is modified rain, so it respects what the rain respects, affected by object lods and does not go through them, ect

 

there is no scripting involved, the engine handles the snow

Fair enough, but based on your "taking anything green, and making it white" approach, and the work involved in that, just wanted to make you aware that there are vanilla A3 clutter models that are essentially broken.

yeh i honestly dont think ill retexture any vanilla clutter and opt for just porting a2 clutter and retexturing that >.< ik about some models having bad transitions to their lower detail lods tho

 ...or a nice easy workaround is just have it play this song everytime it snows -no one will notice the wet sound effect

Great work!

I was going to mention that earlier and thought that might be an insane amount of work. Namalsk has the same thing.

 

Will the hills be slippery when driving and/or on foot?

Will you be able to re-texture the rocks?

im fixing all of the sounds for vehicles when its raining then i may release sometime tonight, unless i come across something else i need to do
