ArmA 3: Callsign Minotaur

Recommended Posts

a3_callsignminotaur_small.png

Good day, everyone!

"Callsign Minotaur" was supposed to be my entry for the "Make Arma Not War"-contest, but due to me being stupid and breaking my right hand, therefore being unable to do any work for 3 months, as well as me being a lazy p.o.s. after that, I couldn't finish it in time. This has changed now and I have decided to finally release this project out into the world.

With the recent release of the Laws of War DLC on the dev-branch, I've decided to do some last-minute changes, reflecting our new knowledge about the A3 lore. Luckily I only had to change a few details, which is great, as that means my story still fits into the bigger picture. Once the DLC has been released officially, I'm going to do a few more tweaks.

Until then, to get to the point...

2034. One year before the events of ‘The East Wind’, CSAT forces provide perimeter protection and counter-insurgency training for the government in The Republic of Altis and Stratis.

Overview

Callsign Minotaur is a fully voiced, story-driven CSAT mini-campaign, taking place shortly after the official Prologue / Bootcamp campaign. You are Sgt. Omid Nazari, stationed on Altis, and part of a tank crew manning the modern BTR-K Kamysh infantry fighting vehicle.

Quote

The Kamysh is equipped with a CTWS turret fitted with a 30mm cannon, coaxial machinegun and 2 guided AT missiles, making the vehicle significant in the infantry support role.
- Field Manual

You will find yourself set up against the ‘Freedom and Independence Army’, which keeps growing in strength again since the botched peace talks in Kavala sparked new unrest on the tiny island republic. With the Altis Armed Forces being unable to handle the situation on their own, and the relationship with NATO slowly decaying, new cooperation opportunities open up for the Canton Treaty…

Mods

Callsign Minotaur doesn’t require any mods to run. Any gameplay changing mods should be disabled while playing the campaign, as these can cause negative side effects.

Help wanted

I'm still looking for people who want to help with translating the campaign into other languages. If you're interested, please send me a message.

Thanks. I've tweaked lots of stuff since you've last played it. Also finalized the farsi voice over and some other things, so no robot voices anymore. :>

Wish I could have done more, but at some point there is a moment where you have to stop. In any case, I'm happy it is finally done.

Congratulations on the release, Lexx!

It might be a bit of time before I can give it a proper playthrough, but already your forum presentation looks amazing! Nice AAN video there too! Super-psyched to give this a go! Love your fidelity to the existing storyline and Armaverse as a whole! Well done, matey! Top stuff!

Just finished the campaign, A real blast to play through! Voice acting top notch sounding almost like Vanilla and that mountain bike somehow made me speechless :P

Didn't encountered a single bug at all and played relatively smoothly without any crashes or errors! I like the use of the ORBAT's and custom assets. Phenomenal one mate :D

Thanks! It was one of my biggest fears to have weird or critical bugs in the release. Glad to hear everything worked out well.

I had planned to make some better (higher resolution) textures for the bikes, but couldn't find the motivation for that yet and in the end didn't gave it a super high priority. I might work on it again in the future.

No problem :D the bikes actually looked quite decent even without a high res texture :P Was certainly a great armour campaign you created Lexx!

Hi, lexx,

I've downloaded your campaign and so far, I like it! Really excellent work there!

However, I've encountered a small problem, I'm not sure if this problem is not only on my side. It's not really a game-breaking issue, but when I manually save the game (in the first mission with the power plant), and then load that save game, I am instantly returned to campaign selection screen. Then, the only thing I can do is to revert back to the start of the mission.

Playing on unmodded game on stable branch.

When exactly did you save & load? I tried it right now on stable-branch, no other mods, skipped the cutscene, then waited for the vehicle to arrive. Saved, loaded, no problem.

This stuff is a bit tricky, especially because I've observed some other weird replay-behavior in the past days. Suddenly there had been bugs I've never seen before in all the years of working on this thing. Especially on dev-branch I am now getting a few error messages for things that always worked before. It's weird and I'll have to keep an eye on that.

I've saved the game a few moments after my APC pops out smoke screen. Then after I try to load the game, the game loads, then lags and returns to campaign screen. Mission shows as completed, but no other mission is available. But when I load the autosave, it works without problems. Nevermind then, as I said it's not exactly a gamebreaking issue, I just need to be more careful :-)

Thanks again for great campaign!

It's possible that the save got borked because this is a scene where I had to use some... weird workarounds. I'll investigate, and in worst case I'll disable saving for that moment. Thanks for reporting!

/Edit: Uploaded a fix for that + some other tweaks.

Hey @lexx, I've got another issue to report. Again, it's nothing gamebreaking, really, but in the second mission, where you

Spoiler

are tasked to escort the conovy consisting of two trucks with your APC, when you are diverted to the abandoned AAF MRAP, right after ambush, mission suddenly shows as completed. Seemed weird to me, so I immediately rolled back to my latest save. This time, I was able to continue with the mission right to the situation where you follow escaping car with mortar squad. I am then tasked to drive to the car with my APC, but when I get close to the car, suddenly mission shows as completed again and I can continue with the guerilla mission. Now, I am not sure if this was your intention or not, because this time I didn't rolled back.

Anyway, great campaign, will continue playing and report anything unusual here. It seems that a lot of missions / campaigns broke with recent updates.,haven't played A3 for a while.

Do you mean you're getting the "Mission Completed" screen or just fade to black?

If you follow the car to the lonely shack and the screen gets dark, followed by explosions, it is working as intended.

Otherwise there is actually nothing that would / could trigger the mission ending before that, so not sure what could have caused that. In any case, I've just uploaded some more tiny fixes. Maybe this solves your issue, though I'm unsure if it was related.

For both cases it was the "Mission Completed" screen, not fade to black.

Spoiler

For the second case, I think I got "Mission Completed" screen a little bit earlier than intended, I saw no explosions, and was at the moment about 150 meters away from the car (according to waypoint), actually I was a little bit surprised after the guerilla mission that Nazari and his squad got caught in a trap :-)

Looks great. Nice to see a CSAT campaign-they are usually just lumped into "bad guy" roles. I will definitely give this a try when i have some time :)

As good as Kydoimos' Resist campaign.

Looks like an official one.

Congrats mate!

Thanks! Resist is actually the reason why I kept working on this thing after the MANW contest has ended. I felt like "hold my beer, I can do this too" ...

Just uploaded a new patch:

- Generic fixes and tweaks here and there.
Mission 01:
- Disabled manual saves until I found out how to fix the "black screen" bug on loading.

- To compensate this, I've moved the autosave to the latest possible moment.
Misson 02:
- Masood can repair vehicles now.
- Fixed the broken EndMission states ("Mission Completed" instead of failure, etc)

Mission 04:
- Added a UAV to the lead vehicle, so you can decide not to go in blind anymore.

This should address some of the more serious issues. More coming later.

PS: I'm still looking for folks who might be interested in translating this thing into other languages. Just saying.

Hi, any plan to upload in armaholic? thank's

Not anytime soon. The workshop makes it very easy to deploy quick fixes, which I wouldn't have with any other way of hosting the files. It's very convenient this way.
