Thanks for the update. New uniforms with kneepads are very cool.

You could also rename BDU (USMC) and BDU (USMC, Kneepads) for Battledress Uniform (USMC) and Battledress Uniform (USMC, Kneepads) for consistency.

Regards.

Nice work with the update. Really appreciate the SF additions.

If you're looking for ideas for the next one, I've got some fairly minor aesthetic tweaks in mind. The list is quite long but it should help break up what some might consider the monotonous appearance of your units (this isn't necessarily a bad thing since armies are supposed to have a monotonous appearance, but it is less so in practice). All of this was equipment that was still in fairly extensive use during the early stages of the War on Terror.

Spoiler

A set of DCUs and raid DCUs (kneepad ones) using black boots instead of tan. Black boots were very common early in Afghanistan and were still being worn by some US soldiers in Iraq as late as 2004. Delta Force operators during the raid that killed Uday and Qusay Hussein can even be seen to be wearing black boots in some photographs. Likewise BDUs with tan boots and MCCUUs with black ones wouldn't be a bad addition.

A black SWAT-style vest with and without a US flag patch on the front such as TG Faust armor. The Marine Corps Security Force Regiment wore a black SWAT-style vest well as late as 2004. Similar vests are still in use by the US Navy today. You can always re-texture CIRAS vests black to avoid the hassle of creating a new model.

MEU_SAMR_2.jpg

A six-color Desert Battle Dress Uniform (DBDU) helmet. Although technically phased out well before the start of the War on Terror, US Army and Marine Corps units continued to wear them during the first year of the war of Afghanistan and in at least one case, the Invasion of Iraq. US Special Forces units embedded with American-allied Afghan and Iraqi forces sometimes wore full sets of DBDUs to better blend in.

Ranger Body Armor (although phased out of the Army Rangers just prior to 9/11, many sets were passed on to the 173rd Infantry Brigade and saw use in the invasion of Iraq).

iraq-503rd-00aa08.jpg

Mismatched uniforms (ex. woodland/black tactical fleece top, desert pants), which were a very common sight in the early months of the Afghan war.

OD green, tan, and black BDUs and tactical flight suits (boots bloused, kneepads etc.). Frequently used by Marine Force Recon, Special Reaction Team (USMC equivalent of SWAT), and US Navy SEALs.

And of course, saving the best for last...

US Special Forces units wearing a mix of combat uniforms and traditional Afghan clothes

A few other recommendations

-mix up the appearance of the 2003 US Marines a bit more (I don't know how, but a lot of the mods for Afghan Taliban are able to randomize their appearance so no two fighters look the same)

-make the M16A2 the dominant weapon of 2003 Marines (the A4 was actually quite rare until late 2004)

-make a 2001 US Army squad that uses the M16A2 rifle (again, the M4 did not completely supplant the A2 in frontline service until 2004/2005)

- In my oppinion USMC 2003 units are already mismatched enough.

- M16A2 is already dominant weapon for USMC 2003 units.

- Most US Army shock troops deployed to Afghanistan in late 2001, early 2002 and OIF 2003 were for the most part at that time equiped with M4 carbines (both light infantry, airborne infantry, mech infantry, cavalry). M16A2 and M16A4 (MWS kits) were secondary standard for frontline MOS es and 2nd line troops. (I ve checked reference books and photographic material).

-Well what I mean with the 2003 USMC is that for instance, coyote brown vests were just starting to be issued in large numbers so perhaps the desert units ought to reflect that with a mix brown and woodland vests instead of all woodland

-I looked through it again and I guess you're right. The team leaders should be using the A2/M203 though. I've poured through hundreds of of photographs of the Invasion of Iraq and the only instance I can find of the A4/M203 being used was by the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division (I've always wondered how they wound up being the first unit to be issued the A4 en masse).

-I guess I should've made myself more clear here. By "frontline service", I meant combat use. Most of the shock troops deployed to Iraq already had M4s yes, but many non-frontline units saw combat as well (owing to Iraq's not having a frontline). An instance would be the 507th Maintenance Company's being ambushed during the Battle of Nasiriyah (iirc, Jessica Lynch specifically recalled that her M16A2 that jammed before she was wounded and captured).

damn thats quiet alot lel; but some of the things you show are mostly SF stuffs like those fleece jacket mixes (which i found pretty cool as a fan of fleece jackets personally), and FR flightsuits, and honestly i don't really want to focus on SFs as much as on the regular guys at the moment (because really there appears to be way more mods doing SF equipments and shit compared to regular ones; but the 2004-2005 era Deltas got me going so thats an exception lel), so i won't be adding them

tho if anything regarding the SFs, is that if i found out how to, i would love to have randomised callsign patches on my SF units.

oh and i already do have flightsuit model, OD green and tan, but so far they're only for crewman, and also have a set of marines wearing them (they did in like 2006-2008s), but yea i don't have any bloused and kneepaded versions on them because i never really see regulars wear them that way so far. 52980.jpg

not saying you don't have any good points tho

I can add the DCU with black boots as a separate uniform, i just wish i know how to randomise them (idk how to randomise uniforms, they're different from randomising helmets and probably would need to use a script). and the pasgt helmets with DBDU covers are also interesting.

And yea i get the non-frontline units with m16a2s, i guess i'll make some support units  (something like engineers and repair specialists) use m16a2s, and later on will make a 2001s era units (i currently based the US army guys off the 2004-2005 period which commonly already have tan boots, and hardly any m16a2s except for logistics etc)

tho idk about the ranger body armour, they're available in the us military mod and i don't really feel like making the same thing for this mod, but i still do think it's interesting, i'll have to make the alice gear too and i won't be prioritising this.

thanks for the suggestions anyway! Funny that you didn't suggest the Spear body armour with vertical pals webbings or the paraclete RAV vest that were often used by rangers and other SFs; i was expecting something like that haha.

I just've tried new update and the mich2000s are awesome! I've been waiting for great helmets like these since one of the game updates broke av_indus mod(which also had nice mich2000s). I hope you add more variations in the future. Btw there's a little bug on mich2001, there're 2 ms2000s at same spot

btw the av_indus mod was certainly an inspiration (:

I was thinking the same thing. We probably looked through the same source materials. My theory is that it was COTS urgent operational buy from unit budget or early US Army NSN ed A4 Modular Weapon System upgrade kits for A2 (A3/4 upper, F marked sight post, early KAC RAS and carry handle in a box to assemble by unit level armorers).

Actually, making 8 men Armored Combat Engineer Squads with some guys with M16s and M113A3 Engineer Squad Vehicles for selected units  is a very nice idea in my oppinion.

I know only script method for randomising uniforms but maby I will experiment for some applicable way to turn it into a config entry.

Gonna add versions with FLCs; hopefully finished soon enough. And believe it or not i changed the model so its no longer based on the arma 1 one haha

Perhaps you could create a set of units entitled "2001 US Army" and "2001 USMC" to represent the US Military immediate following 9/11.

Units could include

-101st Airborne Division wearing DCUs with black boots, Woodland IBA vests, and DCU helmets (as the division used during Operation Anaconda)

-10th Mountain Division wearing DCUs with black boots, Woodland IBA vests, and DBDU helmets (as was worn by a QRF of 10th Mountain troopers that supported US Army SF during the Battle of Qala-i-Jangi)

-US Marines wearing DCUs with black boots, DCU/Woodland IBA vests, and DCU helmets

-a nondescript US Special Forces unit (can be Navy SEALs, Delta Force, Green Berets, or a mix of them) wearing three loadouts depending on the situation, Direct Action (Raid DCUs with black boots, US flag patches, and kneepads, black CIRAS vests, and MICH helmets), Executive Protection (Raid DCUs, ALICE gear, DCU boonie hats, beanies, and patrol cap), and Macho (DCU pants and t-shirts, IBA vests, and baseball caps)

Spoiler

tpl6ff6lnznz.jpg

If you're into morale patches that SF use, you could add ones such as the Punisher logo Chris Kyle was fond of, pork eating Crusader, USSOCOM insignia, NYFD Engine 53 (Medal of Honor recipient Michael Murphy wore one), or the standard USASOC patch.

As for flight suits,  Force Recon Marines and Navy SEALs from my understanding generally wore them bloused/rolled up during VBSS (i.e. boarding a ship) to avoid having them become snagged on the bulkhead. Likewise kneepads are generally worn during CQB where you're likely to bump into walls. Personally, I think it would make a good addition simply because it helps with SWAT loadouts too.

@extracrispi: Remember that when Simcardo started this mod it s scope was US Military 2004/2005 onwards, so black boots, tan boots it doesn t matter right now, because there is lask of major personal equipment to make high fidelity us military units from 2001, for example Eagle Industries MOLLE mag pouches on IBAs are to modern and non existant back them, only big M81 colored SDS utility carriers and M16 mag holders were issued at that time, supplemented by old ALICE mag pouches, besides that majority of Soldiers/Marines carried their fighting load using mix of old ILBV and new FLC vests on top of their IBA armors.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm kinda biased toward black boots because I watched Black Hawk Down and early Afghan War footage as a kid and fell in love with Delta Force's look. To be me, the whole black vest, black boots, and black helmet on a light-colored uniform made it look even more intimidating than the standard rifleman.

Speaking of black vests, I've managed to find what the SWAT style vest the US Navy uses is called. It's the LBT-2564A Flotation Vest System (Ballistic) and LBT-1620 Tactical Floatation Vest, both made by London Bridge Trading Company. They essentially function as body armor and a life vest wrapped in one. Pretty neat if you ask me.

Oh yeah and simcardo, I think I've found an old thread that might help you with randomizing appearances of your units.

randomization scripts are really annoying to me, I often tweak loadouts in the editor and the script overrides them.
