-TNF-The Rocket 0 Posted November 17, 2002 </span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">xFURYx sent us email about 2 affairs: xFURYx with his team reopened site ofpleague.com- better, bigger, multi language, with new system and muc more. So, this is good message for all clans and squads. xFURYx also informed us about a man who "made" Russian Fast Attack ship. It is not true! He just downloaded xFURYx's 3d model from 3dcafe.com and imported it into OFP. It is a sad affaire. The model author was working on it 3 months and someone says that he made it <span id='postcolor'> This cant be accepted or can it? NO!! Well an good idea is if someone that knows how could make some kind of program that registers Unofficial addons and what version, name of the .pbo file, WHere to find it in Mission editor. Well If someone made this program it would be better so none can steal others addons!!! I'm not an addonmaker I odnt know much about O2 and whatever you use. I know theres an addonmanager dont know much about it but I know the author could fix it so we OFPplayers can see information about the addon. And the addonmaker could add information which he upload when the addon is finnished could be some fileformat maybe html or something whatever but it would be a nice tool for addonsmaker as well for us who doesnt make the addons. What do u think?
Mister Frag 0 Posted November 17, 2002 I don't think your solution would work -- since that guy simply downloaded the 3D model and then created his own Addon from it, he could slap any author name or copyright he wants onto it. The only way to deal with this is to expose these thieves for who they are, and make others aware of it. The risk of becoming a pariah should take care of any loser looking to gain fame from other people's hard work.
Guest Posted November 17, 2002 Yes, it is a shame when people steal addons. However it is equally as horrible when people are falsely accused of stealing. There is a prominent model maker who is constantly being accused of stealing. He is in fact using other people's textures, with their full permission, and with total credit...it's just that people start accusing without even having read the read-me. This has happened to a few people....grrrr
USMC Sniper 0 Posted November 17, 2002 Why didnt he just say that the model isnt his? Is it really that hard to say in the readme "Thanx to [someone] for the model"?
Guest Posted November 17, 2002 Because the model might have been from another game...so there could be a fair bit of work involved in converting it for use in OFP....and it may only have been textures, not model etc etc etc........................... Guest Posted November 18, 2002 No it is not VIT. I'm not about to start naming names. Just needless to say that yes, some people steal, others don't and are accused of it. Both situations are ugly (hey...just like real life...)
Placebo 29 Posted November 18, 2002 Hmm sitting in a forum throwing names about of people who may not have even done anything wrong is really not the best thing to do, if someone has proof that somebody else has stolen work then deal with that person.
