Something weird in mp selection screen. help pls!

Recommended Posts

I haven't played OFP for a few months and I fired up OFP v1.46 the other day and wanna have a quick MP game capture the flag game v.s. A.I. After I selected a mission and I got this weird selection screen.

Of course I couldn't start the game cos I wasn't able to select anything. I reinstalled the game back to v1.0 but still got this issue. I am using XP traditional chinese version and using 30.82 nVidia driver. I searched the Avonlady's website but couldn't find the answer. Someone in MP forum said it might be font problem but I tried to click every possible area in those blank(supposed clickable)area but no response also. Help please!! Thanks!!

It looks like your client is not able to connect to your server. Even when playing MP with AI only, there is still both client and server on your computer (both in the same executable). It is possible your server is trying to connect to internet when your client is connecting. On some systems this happens anytime when starting MP, on all systems it happens when you have Squad URL filled in your user profile, as your server trying to download the Squad file.

Chance is dial-up windows is opened on your windows desktop when you try to launch MP. Try Alt-Tabbing to see if there is such window. If there is, press cancel - and MP should continue normally.

Suma, there is no dialog on the desktop while I creat server.

I am using ADSL with an outgoing IP and a local IP bound to

the Kingston Ethernet card. Does this mess things up?

But I have this issue no matter I am online or offline also...

Also when I moved the "laptop computer" in mp selection screen(image on my 1st post), I saw "creating client..." on the background, is it normal?

Running out of idea...

Someone help please..

Suma, I forgot to mention one thing I suspected that might cause problem.

I have installed CFS3 a weeks ago and it updated my directx

from 8.1 to 8.2. I heard this 8.2 update is basically update direct play only and leave other directx component intact. I'll try to find program to uninstall DirectX 8.2 and go back to 8.1 to see if my problem still comes up because I was able to play MP byself with the same OS and network setup before.

Thanks for your attention.

Heh that might couse your problem... becous 8.2 is not final yet, it's just at the BETA stage, and 8.1 is still the best.

The installation process changes core components and makes numerous registry changes within your operating system. Microsoft does not support un-installation.

That was from MS DX 8.x downloading page...
