R7 370 2GB or 4GB to play Wasteland Altis full server with max range view

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!!

I'll buy a GPU to play Wasteland Altis on full servers (around 75~100 player) with the maximum range of vision possible (graphic settings can be reduced). I want to get the R7 370 ... but I'm in doubt if I get the 2gb or 4gb version.

Can someone help me?

My specs: CPU FX6300

Corsair 8GB 1333mhz RAM

PSU CX600 V2 Corsair

Hyper 212 Cooler Tower dual fan CoolerMaster

Sorry for my english. I need to use google translate

Tu guys!!!

if you MUST buy only one of these too then go for the 4gb. Try one 1060 instead not too expensive

In my country the 1060 is around 50% more expensive than the R7

4GB or more. The 1060 is actually the better GPU in that price range. Can you buy a 480 8 GB for the same price as the 1060?

yes

The 470 4GB is the same price as the 370 4GB

Edit

nVidia is much more expensive here... 50% or more

I've seen 470 and 370 performance comparisons. I think I'll get the 470 4GB

Have these models of the 470 for the same price:

Although I love the RX-470 (I've got one for my HTPC), I really recommend paying extra for the 1060 because benchmarks show that the performance is almost 60% faster @ 1080p

With the same price as the 470 4GB I get the 1050 4GB or the 1050Ti 2GB

That's my point. Don't get the 470, nor the 1050. Eat beans/lentils + stay off the beers for a week and get the 1060.

hahahaha... I can't :dontgetit:

Even if I buy the 1060 ... I get the 3GB or 6GB?

tell me for what the hell you need 12 km viewdistance .... ?

If you do that I guarantee arma3 will run like shit and with very low FPS, even if you lower the graphic settings

this will result may with another kiddie that spams the forums and whines around why arma3 runs so bad, yada yada yada

:face_palm:

@pamonheiro what @maquez is saying is that although A3 allows users to push the View Distance to 12km, that's unecessary in 99.9% of cases. It's more of an option for people to stress-test and benchmark their systems.

Most players leave their VD at 2-3km. If you're flying then it can be useful to raise it further to 3-5km but bear in mind that performance drops dramatically.

To put all this in perspective, here's how the default view distance has increased in the last 15 years:

OFP: 900m
A1: 1200m
A2: 1600m
A3: 1600m

Conclusion: for most infantry (not snipers), 2km is sufficient, i.e. 12km is a complete overkill

My comrades...

I'm a good infantryman. But what I really like are MBT or IFV. In some servers it is possible to use automatic zeroing, giving the possibility of targeting the enemy that is 5km or more.

Remembering that for infantry there are Titan launchers. I did not find Titan's reach on the A3 Wiki website... but in real life the Titan reaches from 1.6km to 25km

The last Wasteland server I played on the A2 (Stalk & Strike Servers) had a view distance of 3000m

I remember that I once hit a Bradley with a Javelin out of my view. If I were less than 3000m possibly the Bradley would have seen me and got me with the auto zeroing of the 25mm cannon

Because of this I want to know how important memory is with the maximum viewing range

Regardless of what role you play, your performance in Arma will be satisfactory (30+ fps @ 1080p with options @ Standard or hgiher) depending on your VD:

<2km : FX-series

2-3 km : Intel < 3.5 GHz + Ryzen

3-4 : Intel @ 3.5-4.5 GHz

5+ : Intel @ 4.5+ GHz

The reason I haven't mentioned GPU isn't because is irrelevant (it IS important) but because CPU performance, notably IPC, has inordinate importance in Arma.

But here's a rough guide of increasing performance:

1080p at 30-40 fps RX 470/GTX 1050

1080p at 40-60 fps RX 480/R9 390/GTX 1060 3GB

1080p at 60+ fps GTX 970/R9 390X/GTX 1060 6GB

1440p at 40-60 fps GTX 980/Fury X

1440p at 60+ fps GTX 980 Ti/1070

4k at 30-40 fps  = GTX 1080

4K at 40-50 fps = GTX Titan

So basically, if you want to 3+ km VD, the most-cost effective config seems to be a GTX 1060 (or higher) and i5, ideally a K series and overclock her past 4 GHz.

Also fast RAM has a BIG impact, (ideally DDR4-2666 or higher)
