Arma 3: Community wishes & ideas- DISCUSSION

Recommended Posts

I think what we really need is a full, up to date guide on how to use every aspect of the editor. Since the editor is one of Arma's biggest selling points and it has not changed too much in a long time, well now with the new 3D editor and the Apex release this is a perfect time for a full, official tutorial series on how to use it.

Agree, how important the description.ext and init, sqf are when creating missions with the new editor. A walk-though of sorts to help seasoned mission-makers as well as those just starting. I guess we're all just starting with the new editor :)

Honestly my only wish is for devs to do with apex what they did for full release: Add more content, more vehicles for chinese and greenfor and more weapons. Maybe attatchments for the AK pattern weapons.

Now that Apex is released, I must post here what I had already posted  .... FAT and XFS are also needed

At the moment we are only getting NTFS (New Tanoa Force Syndicate) as irregular units and groups.
So we do need FAT and XFS units and groups for missions makers mental stability and welfare
FAT being the FIA Tanoan counter part, the "Front d'Autodéfense de Tanoa" is helping Gendarmerie to bring in Law and Order.
XFS from "Xing Feng Shui" movement being the devious Tanoan "5eme colonne" helping CSAT to change Water and Land status.

Of course, I can edit some Gendarmerie units in order to get irregular Bluefor troops

But there are no Medic/Demo/Engineer specialists in Gendarmerie units

And using Ambient Combat Management I can only get FIA groups.

Then it seems that only the Greek pitas vendors mafia has joined the democracy and freedom side.

Regular Independent troops are not a problem for we can use AAF as  Austral Asian Friendship troops

Meaning the troops were send here by an interested 3rd side such as a countries linked in the "Nauru Treaty".
"Nauru Treaty" is a treaty signed in 2027 between Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Wallis &Futuna, Fiji, Nauru, Vanuatu, Solomons Islands in order to defend natural ground and sea resources against ASEAN countries and China appetites.

The choice of Nauru being highly symbolical for this very small country has been destroyed by intensive phosphate mining and now in 2035 it has no future.

Apex was a amazing step to ArmA 3, however a miss some things.

Animations:

  • The doors open by themselves and push the character.
  • When climbing the ladder the character does not identify the ladder over and he gets up in the air.
  • Animations where the character goes in and out of vehicles need to be improved it go through the doors (except in the new civil aviation animation is great!).

AI:

  • In the trailer the characters breaching the door was fantastic, and unfortunately the ia would not know how to do this and we dont have a action for this.
  • Artificial intelligence would know assaulting buildings.

Engine:

  • The destruction system needs to be improved if you give a shotgun shot on a wooden door it remains intact
  • throw grenades needs to be improved

Campaign

  • The missions were very good, but the campaign is short and could have created missions in which they use new vehicles (refer to the planes) to demonstrate how it works and mechanical them, or create showcases with new vehicles.
They are only suggestions I am a fan of the ARMA series.
I want to thank all of Bohemia Interactive for the excellent work.

About animations - its still same since OFP! Which is very big misunderstanding for me. I remember video when Tanoa being created, and guys with suits for animation recording.... Why they didnt used that by the way for improving get in /get out vehicle and ladder animations?
Campaign - indeed, very short. I was expectating something like campaign from OFP (in terms of time needed for completing it) - for that money....
Doors need some physx, that would be totally enough to break old standards and improve game to new standard a bit. Doors and gates, and all openable sh*t. I cant imagine how this would behave after grenade explosion - just beautyful image. And that would not put character back in the end.
Last but very important Is axis point of character. They improved it a bit in 1.4X, but it really need rework. I died around 40 times beacuse of this. If someone not getting what i mean - when you are standing by facing the wall, and rotate to left/right and you are inside of this wall. In this way i died while walking in buildings, rooftops, etc. Not to mention falling animation that accompaniet this behavior, which look pretty like a bad joke. I cant forgett this animation when all was in some briefing room and was "falling" in place. First reminder - Golum from LOTR. This animation look so bad, and this situation should not take place in 2016 in any game. Please improve at least axis point of units.

DEVS PLEASE READ!

This post is regarding ideas for the next Arma[4]

First off, factions;

blufor - US forces, UK Forces mainly but also most other NATO countries.

opfor - Russia, China.

inde - india [if you wondering, india?!?! read the backstory]

Next up Era/year;

Around 2030, where there is enough new technology to make the game slightly more interesting but not to futuristic as most people would be dishearten and immersion would be harder to obtain.

for example Armor isn't as good as in Arma 3 so you are likely to be killed for one shot.

Next, War zone/area of the world;

The area of the war would be along the indian chinese and indian Pakistani border.[a mix of both terrains] for the Asian theater of war

and for the European theater of war maybe inside Ukraine[maybe it would be cool to have a map based on the UK as Arma has never really had a maps there]

and finally the backstory;

Russia is engaged in a fierce fight for Ukraine as NATO tries to push them back to the Russian border. Meanwhile china tries to expand its sea territory and its land territory so China and Russia make a new allies[OPFOR]

NATO tries hard to keep China in from expanding into the south china see and NATO have also tried helping india but they have rejected help so india is against OPFOR and NATO, but NATO have a foothold on the india china border.

Russia have also gained a foothold in the UK, on the west side of wales the have amphibiously invaded west wales and are trying to take over the country.

Thanks for reading, sorry if the grammar or spelling is bad, also devs the main 2 things i want in Arma 4 is a UK map and the Era to be basically modern day NOT futuristic thanks.

Probably been said before but proper, decent, full Civi factions for a a variey of environments. I would pay for this as an expansion.......how I miss the jogger lady from Arma II;-)

Modern equipment - OK, but Russia as Opfor? How long does it take? I think player should finally have Russian campaign, as it was lacking in Arma. Russia as greenfor, Nato as blufor, and Czeh's also as greenfor, Opfor should be middle EAST, Eastern militia (aka Pro-Russian separatists) etc. Theatre of warfare - country like Poland. Main opfor faction ISIS. You got game on time, with realistic conflict, and more playable factions in campaign.

Can this topic be renamed RFC - Request For Comments

or

can we get a RFC topic listed

so people can sanitise there ideas in a peer group of willing community members. Such as If an idea that sounds good but would be hard to implement in the arma environment. Then an idea can be rationalised and discussed in a creative manner. Not inhibiting those creative thought processes but exposing there short falls.

Also RFC topics could be numbered as they get posted or moderator approved first. To stop the flaming. Hopefully community members who have a real interest in the development cycle will respond and leave constructive critic.

K ill start

RFC 001

(only read and comment if you have a keen interest in the game development evo)

Request For Comment - The differance between control of a particular vehicle that a user input translates to can be subtle and controllable or highly sensitive and hard to control.

Quad bikes and Darters are more sensitive to control.

Trucks and Huron are more sluggish to control.

Could this imbalance be improved so heavy vehicles are less sluggish and light vehicles are less sensitive. May be if this balance is hard to achieve then a sluggish setting for sensitive vehicles could be applied to a vehicle lists in the setting's menu. The same for a sensitive setting that can be applied to a sluggish vehicle list that a user wishes to get a better response rate from. So would it be possible/needed to have this game setting?

Damn forum has me down as a Newbie just above my blanked out photo, the blooming cheek of it.

Hi!

It should be possible to have more than one map.

The player switches through different types of maps in the menu.
For instance
-the "normal" map
-some detailed satellite images of a few (!) certain areas (e.g. AO)
-rough sketches (enemy bunkers, poisitons of mines)
-building plans of bigger buildings (e.g. Airports, Hospital, etc.)

There also should be a possibility to create these type of maps in 3den and add them to the inventory.

Greetings

Now that we have the Opus codec for VON it would be nice if we could have support for playing Opus files in the game also. The quality of Opus compared to Vorbis at low bit rates is impressive. Both can be packaged in the .ogg container format. Lower audio file sizes, better quality, and faster decoding would all be a plus for mission makers who want to add custom voice overs, music and sounds to their missions.

About UAVs

The autopilot only allows for a fixed list of altitudes. As far as I remember the list is:

COPY GROUND - 20m
LOW PROFILE - 50m
TRAVEL - 200m
HIGH -500m
VERY HIGH -2000m

The gap between "High" and "Very High" is too big. For the Greyhawk I've noticed that in most cases "High" is not high enough since enemies will easily detect it, and "Very High" is so high its past most players' view distance. For the Darter, "High" is usually enough, since its reduced size makes it almost invisible for the enemy.

Anyway, it would be nice to have more steps in the list, like every 500m starting from "High" (500-1000-1500-2000), or, better yet, make it completely editable, so the player can type any height he/she wants.

My idea is to replace the generic HMG turret from MRAPs (the same in the 3 faction) with the commander turret from the respective tank. This will add variety and the possibility to identify HMG cars from GMG. AFAIK it shouldn't be difficult and will be very wellcome.

Early WIP (DDG-105) The shadows on the bridge windows is a bit wrong. shape will be adjusted to look more accurate to the real thing soo it is work in progress, things can change but it will have interior also. More information coming later in a few months or weeks.

is it theoretically possible to add sling loading feature to VTOLs

I think it's both theoretically and pratically possible, as long as you fly it as a heli. If you want to fly it as plane afeter liftoff, you should get a vehicle that allows to load the cargo internally and then drop it with a parachute, like the Blackfish.

I found out it is possible

V-44 can lift an MRAP

Y-32 can lift an LSV

V-22 can lift a car

(needs a 6-ton buff)

Completely replace shadow volume (aka stencil shadows) with shadow mapping (aka soft shadows) for:

1. Performance: being able to shift CPU work to the GPU in ArmA would be a nice thing;

2. Aesthetics: one can't deny soft shadows are way better than stencil shadows.

Discuss!

Just watched the latest trailer/demo vid for Tom Clancy's GR Wildlands (stealth one) and it shows a feature I've always wanted in Arma, the ability to have AI (bad guys) laying down and sleeping. More animations (in the combat animation category) would help make missions more immersive.

Obviously, this is low on the to-do list, but would make for better missions

Whether it can be done in Arma 3, or it will need to be a 'to do' item on Arma 4, the biggest game changer I can think if is the ability of the AI to actually operate as a cohesive unit and fight in the terrain they are in.  Whether it's an invisible trigger that changes AI from 'field' combat to 'urban combat' or whatever, there needs to be more intelligent and realistic approaches to urban combat especially.  Let's face it, most battles aren't fought over a random plot of ground.  They are fought in and around cities and towns, and other built up areas, as these areas hold strategic value.  The AI needs to effectively use cover and concealment, and maneuver tactically through built up areas.  Laying down in the middle of a road is a good way to end up dead.  Fire and maneuver tactics need to be used.  Different tactics for different factions would be nice too.  Hit and run guerrilla tactics from rebel factions for example.
Along with this, player command of AI units needs to be capable of giving MOUT/CQC related commands and actions. Things like "2, 3, breach that door", or "4, throw a frag in that window/building" would be really nice.  Being able to give a fireteam a set of waypoints on the map, and knowing that they will move through buildings tactically (making entries, clearing corners, etc.).  Collision needs to be more refined as well, so you don't get hung up in buildings as much as you do currently.

We've seen some really great improvements to different systems in Arma, from helicopter handling and slingloading, to ballistics and sound.  The AI is the next frontier.  Aside from survival and "Altis Life" style games, PvE coop games are the most popular for multiplayer, and having a believable AI that is capable of fighting in urban environments would be really nice to have.

Along with that, would be the ability for AI helicopter pilots to be able to perform more tactical helicopter maneuvers (takeoffs and landings), and the ability to have them fly at the actual damn height given for a waypoint...

i agree, having a more intelligent AI, and a better way to control them in both zeus an on the ground would be great

Hello BI.

A lot of interesting proposals, ideas and suggestions, but I still wish to see in the game, something like "Warfare" mode. It was a very interesting mode that was fun to play as well as network and solo. Now as you can create something like it using the modules "Endgame" and "Support for ground forces" (Google translator :)), but it is a little not that that was a "Warfare".

And of course, the module civilians - it was cool module which is always present in the missions that I have done.

In Arma 3 beautiful islands you implemented for the game ... they're just super ... but they look empty and not live without the civilian population. Civilians have to be some kind of gameplay realism and atmosphere may have made some situational changes in it.

So, please:

Implement something like "Warfare".

Implement something like "module civilian."

Island Tanoa populated civilian people, boats, airplanes and helicopters, cars, military patrols, ground foot, motorized, air, sea, and all in one module with flexible settings - that would be cool.

Thank you and sorry for the bad english (thanks to Google translator :)).

Ideas and suggestions for the upcoming TANK DLC

- stabilised weapon system

- automated target tracking

- modeled interiors for existing and upcoming tanks

- ability to camouflage your tank with camo nets and/or branches, leafs, bushes etc.

- add variety of possible ammo cook off effects when the tank is hit

- smoke screens by injecting fuel onto the hot exhaust

- fix the zoomed in driver view
