Damn, you got the switching looking flawless, no jumping at all.

 

You mentioned maybe making this work for other types of track.  Is there a possibility of getting it to work with other train models as well?

Supporting other train models shouldn't be an issue.

Testing out some CUPS train models on Tanoa (they're way too big for the tracks on Tanoa)

Hahahahaaaa you actually did it you absolute madman!   Those were the models I was going to use (plus the flatbed).  If you get the chernarus track models to work, it'll be something beautiful.

 

Two questions:

 

1) can you run around on top of/inside those models as well, like you can with the Tanoa ones?

 

2) Are you planning a functionality where, say, if my stupid friends slam into a siding end too fast, they derail the train and go hurtling into the ocean while they scream in panic?

 

You know.  Just curious.

That would be such fun to play this like the train simulator games and pick up passengers up at stations!

Is it if it were possible and idk if you have it planned but to play this from a 1st person perspective when your the engineer?

Lastly is it possible for the AI to use this i mean you might have to give them way points correct on the tracks but can AI run the train and go somewhere with it?

Wasn't planning on supporting 1st person. However, it might be possible. Seems like it would be useful in the CUPS engine since it has an interior.

 

Eventually, yes, AI should be able to drive it.

Will there be a way to get in as passenger? Like, lets say that train goes to the station, where people get in it, and then it drives to another station

Yes, absolutely. Probably won't be able to see the players on the train, but passengers will get the same type of 3rd person camera following the car they got into.

Idea, if not covered already.

 

Explosive detonated on a track destroys that track piece/node.  Which slows/halts train, or, train crashes (engine).

Engine can drive on own without player, based on script/trigger(s).

 

Allows for scenario where mission is to halt/disrupt rail operations/logistics.

These are all great ideas! Lots of possibilities... 

 

Right now I'm just focused on getting the train movement working smoothly and improving performance - e.g. pulling 50+ cars without a FPS drop or a jumpy looking train.

just dreaming.... would be great to have automated trains and hop on (without a ticket) rest the legs and hop off before a check point :P

65 car train successfully tested on Tanoa! I'll probably put limits on the number of cars, but 65 are running smoothly on the track.
