Would there be people interested in a possible USMC Force Recon faction?

I have already done the Marine Raiders, but I had a request for FR and was considering it- they would be rather similar, obviously, but would use RHS uniforms and rifles only- no SMA version.

RHS itself already has force recon so I feel like making a force recon faction that is dependant on RHS might be kind of pointless.

RHS doesn t have Force Recon it has either LAR scout teams or MARSOC Raider teams. Force Recon would have different unit structures and little different equipment and kit.

Personally I would like to see proper USMC Force Recon faction made by Jarrad in Arma 3.

CTRG are going to be released as soon as I get some custom stuff from VSM, he's been working on it for a while- not a vest though ;)

They might have an initial release before that using some stand-in weapons, depending on time and such. The 'Heavy' version, with the SCAR's, has utterly demolished the HK416's in the polls I've been doing in other places, so that's what the CTRG will be using.

At the current time I'm thinking I'll work on a Polish GROM SFF-R / RHS Version and release that, just watch this space for a few days at most (If all goes well)

Polish GROM [SFF-R] released-

A7qDaql.jpg

GROM soldiers take cover behind a car in a marketplace, Porto, off the coast of the Kingdom of Sahrani.

MH-6M's are able to transport the troops around rapidly if needed.

f7ofjEd.jpg

LSV's are still around, I really like them.

oRITKKN.jpg

GROM Breaching/ CQC team. As you can see, the faction detects if RHS is enabled and adds the glasses to the facewear randomisation options- All my SFF-R factions do this, I just don't think I've mentioned it before.

E30KUp4.jpg

GROM sniper team with a M107.

0jQqtbe.jpg

Quad moving through some rather thick Tanoan fog.

wtECsLl.jpg

Now, this is the Marksman unit- RHS has no HK417, so I instead used a 14.5 HK416 with a bipod, long range scope and Mk262 ammo- This kind of SPR set-up, using a normal rifle just with a bipod, match ammo and a LR scope, is something that shows up occasionally in different SOF source pics I've found. Also, you can deploy your rifle on the back tray of the ATV, just some trivia.

zVmXSVk.jpg

A close-up of one of the GROM soldiers, with his HK416 CQC with Eotech and ANPEQ-15. Interestingly, despite Eotechs falling out of favor in some American units, who have moved over to Aimpoint Micros or similar red dots due to reliability and accuracy concerns, Eotech's in Polish SOF seems to still have a monopoly. Bear in mind the sources I'm using for the faction date from 2008 to mid/late 2016.

Special Operation Forces Faction mod [SFF] that adds the Polish GROM- Also known as 'Thunder' and 'Silent Unseen' GROM are Poland's most elite Special Forces unit.

Note this version is dependant on RHS Escalation. If you would prefer different dependancies there is a SMA version also available. They are not compatible with each other and cannot be enabled at the same time.

Historical Info-

The Polish GW GROM ( Grupa Reagowania Operacyjno-Manewrowego) are Poland's most elite Special Forces unit, and were founded in 1990, and trained by US Delta Force, US Navy SEAL Teams, and the British Special Air Service. Named after Poland's WW2 special forces unit, the 'Silent Unseen' and have since garnered a reputation, even among other international Special Forces Units as being one of the best units in the world.
Motto- "Siła i Honor Tobie Ojczyzno! (Strength and Honor For you, Fatherland!) "

The Faction-

The Polish GROM in this mod are accurate to a 2011-2016 timeframe, based on real life photographs and sources where possible, with weapons and equipment based on what they used at that time.

The Heckler & Koch HK416 forms their primary rifle, usually with a CQC 10 inch barrel. The HK416 14.5 serves as their Marksman rifle, using match grade Mk262 ammo, a bipod and a longer range optic. GROM grenadiers carry a standalone M320 GLM launcher to not weigh down their primary rifle if they are engaged in close range or urban fighting. The M249 SAW is their main autorifleman weapon and the standard sidearm is a Glock 17.

They have considerable on a squad level compared to other SF units as they carry M72 LAW launchers, which can be used in both anti-structure and anti-armor roles. They wear Multicam uniforms and OD/ Tan equipment, and a cosiderable number of their weapons have been spray-camo'ed in the field, which I have seen in photographs of GROM in Afghanistan.

Specialist Elements-

The GROM have a dedicated Sniper-Spotter team, wearing a ghille suit with ATACS-AU underclothes, giving them precision supporting fire, recon or for HVT assassination.

A Breacher team, based on photos from a 2015 urban warfare exercise, is also in the faction. They are wearing OD base uniforms with Multicam body armor/ Opscores. Armament is all compact CQC Hk416's with with Eotech red dots, and one member of the breaching unit can carry a M320 underslung.

Supports-

The GW GROM lack the heavier air assets of other SF units, instead having a light MH-6M Littlebird for transport or insertions, and having the Oshkosh M-ATV for vehicle support, with a mounted M2 50. Cal. Light Strike Vehicles in both armed and unarmed versions as well as Quads can be used for mobility.
They have a light Zodiac craft for water-bourne operations.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio and ALiVE support (faction name GM ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.

Just letting people know- I'm still around, just in the Outback again, so around 650KM from my actual PC.

Once I get back I will work on the CTRG Overhaul for a private release, and then go public a few days after that.

Zenith is still chugging along just fine, as soon as that's out I'll start on the 'CIA Black Units' (Placeholder name, If anyone has a better name, say so)

It will contain units based loosely on CIA Ground Branch, GRS, Special Activies Division, and Task Force Orange (Technically JSOC, but I think the intel role would work well as UAV operators or a small Recon unit within the Black Units faction.)

Note I only have photographs up till early 2015, after that I'll be going off verbal info from a (cough) Friend who has worked with them on occasion.

Basically it's going to be covering a rough 2000 to 2016 time period.

Operational Detachment Alpha / Green Berets is also planned for a post-Zenith release.

The VSM All-In-One will also be having a Zenith Update as soon as possible after it goes live publicly. Content will depend on how Zenith is divided internally- I will be most likely be adding the uniforms, vests and headwear to the AOW, but am unsure about the weapons- It will probably end up depending on the file size.

That's all for now, just letting people know the next faction will be a week away. Once I get back it will be approaching Exam period at university, but I'll try to keep working on factions and will almost certainly have something released.

Have a depressing image-

PSA- Faction download links will no longer be regularly updated on the main/ primary post page for factions that are released from now on.

Factions will still be added to the first post, it's probably just going to be done in block updates, adding several factions at a time to the first page- it's just to prevent me from doing a ton of minor tweaks to the primary post as it currently takes ages to load as it's already a kilometre long. :)

All factions are sorted into collections based on type (General  SFF, SFF-R RHS version, and Faction Overhauls) on my Steam Workshop page.

Release posts and updates will still be on the forums and they are staying as my preferred Q/A / Request/ Feedback area, I prefer people to not mass-add me on Steam unless I know you from here.

Not something I had really thought  about- I have Tanoan Gendarmerie and Tanoan Armed Forces.

Perhaps i I could do something (Army mod, then Police mod) similar for Malden, but I don't know if there would be much interest in ME doing one- there is already a Malden Army mod in the works.

As you can see, I'll be using the same dependencies (VSM/SMA/NIA) as last time. Miller is armed with a ACR 6.8 because it's the most exotic weapon I could think of, but the rest of the CTRG Pacific forces are equipped with FN SCAR-H's (Usually CQC length), because I want to experiment with a BLUFOR faction armed with battle rifles, and think that doing jungle fighting with modern 7.62 carbines will be interesting.

I will be doing 2 primary groups of CTRG forces, one in the Pacific with Black weapons and OD/ Green equipment and another for more Arid/Desert environments, with Tan equipment, more rolled up sleeves and no thermal balaclavas - The desert gets really hot! The Desert forces also will have slighty different weapons, with more of a mix between 5.56 and 7.62 rifles rather than a pure 7.62 force like the Pacific CTRG.

In addition to the new infantry forces, they are also getting a wider range of vehicles, like more Prowlers and Prowler (Armed) as well as Assault and RHIB boats, with additional support from Ghosthawks, V-44 Blackfish and V-140 Blackfish Gunships and FA-181 (Stealth) for air transport or fire support.

I don't have a release date right now for the CTRG, but other Overhauls can be found here-

This overhaul getting compounded on top of Project Zenith Alpha is probably one of the most frustrating things to wait for yet most satisfying things to be released.

CTRG Overhauled released-

This mod is a total replacement of the Combat Technology Research Group, or CTRG units with new weapons, uniforms and equipment.

It works in any custom or downloaded scenarios that use the CTRG faction. It does not work in Apex because of the Loadout Selector.

The Faction-

Much of the info on the CTRG unit is speculation, but they appear to be a British, later multi-national, special forces group with possible links to CIA Special Activies Division or Mi5/ Mi6. Several of the known members of CTRG are ex- British Royal Navy Special Boat Service (SBS) or Royal Marines.

The Faction-

The Overhauled faction is not based on any particular unit in real life, so I have used Project Honour camo uniforms to give them a more unique feel, similar to the original Splinter camo they used in the base game.
The primary armament of the CTRG Forces is the FN SCAR platform, in both 5.56 and 7.62, usually with CQC length barrels for more close range jungle fighting. Many of the soldiers are carrying 7.62 SCAR-H CQC's, which will let them shoot through the ground cover and foliage of the jungle rather well, and a single good hit should drop most enemy forces in the close range jungle engagements.
They have an M60E4 as their standard autorifleman weapon, with is also in 7.62 NATO. This is a PLACEHOLDER weapon, and will be replaced with a custom weapon when it has been completed. Standard sidearm is the SIG P226, due to it's sterling repuation in Naval units.

Specialist Elements-

Captain Miller is also changed in the mod, and any player-made scenarios using him will be using his new equipment, which includes a 6.8 SPC ACR and a stainless steel P226 in 357. SIG, because I wanted him to have very exotic weaponry to make him stand out.

Supports-

A range of vehicles have been added to the CTRG arsenal, such as the missing Armed version of the Prowler in CTRG Camo as well as new vehicles such as the Assault Boat, RHIB, and fire support can be called in from a F/A -181 (Stealth) is one of the supports the CTRG have available, and it's armed by default with 4x AA missiles and 2x GBU-12 bombs- the Stealth version has decreased radar detection.

They also have heavier support from V-44 Blackfish's, in both Transport and Gunship variants, in Blue/ Naval camo.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, MCC and ALiVE support (faction name BLU_CTRG_B ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.
It totally replaces the BLUFOR CTRG faction in editor, Zeus, ALiVE and all scenarios played when the mod is enabled.

OPFOR FIA is coming up next, should hopefully be done within a few hours- I've finished it, just working on the description and text as well as pictures.

EMV6t7X.jpg

They are getting several new squads and units, armored vehicles being a not-insignificant addition to their fighting ability.  :)

OPFOR FIA Released-

OPFIA forces advance through the forest of Altis.

This mod is a total replacement of the OPFOR FIA forces, bringing them more in line with modern day equipment, weapons and uniforms.
It works in the official Arma 3 Campaign and custom scenarios that use the OPFOR FIA faction will be using the new faction as well.

The Faction-

The FIA (Freedom and Independence Army) draws it's origins and name from the 1985 anti-Soviet resistance movement of the same name that fought in the Malden and Everon conflicts.
The modern FIA was established out of civilians and Altis Armed Forces defectors following a coup d'etat in the capital city of Kavala, causing a civil war between the FIA and AAF to break out.

This FIA insurgency cell is supported by Iranian CSAT forces, so is armed primarily with older Soviet weapons such as the AKM and AK-74 as primary weapons, with the AKMS and AKS-74-U used in some roles.
The standard support weapons are the PKM, SVD and RPG-32 and the fighters wear mostly Desert Digital camo mixed in with civilian and geurilla clothing, as well as ex-Soviet body armor, helmets and other equipment. Standard sidearm is the Makarov.

Specialist Elements-

Several Iranian CSAT solders are in advisory roles, and can be identified by their full Desert Digital uniforms. There is a also a Sniper Team armed with SVD's added to the faction.

Supports-

The OPFOR FIA units are supported primarily by re-purposed and camouflaged civilian vehicles, including techincals and trucks, but they also have access to limited amounts of ex-Russian armored vehicles, usually with makeshift camo patterns to match the re-purposed civilian vehicles. They have a BTR-60PB for an general infantry tranport, while the BMP-1's and BMP-2's can both provide transport and heavier firepower to the OPFIA forces. Finally, they have small numbers of scaveged T-72 main battle tanks that give them the ability to be a threat to AAF convoys and other assets.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, MCC and ALiVE support (faction name OPF_G_F ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.
It totally replaces the OPFOR OPFIA faction in Editor, Zeus, ALiVE and all scenarios played when the mod is enabled.

Work-In-Progress-

dXfuutB.jpg

dcGN5Q4.jpg

NATO Overhaul using RHS, with US Marines and MARSOC added. Note that I will be going back to retro-actively change the SMA NATO Overhaul to have the new units, like Miller, Kerry and other unique units, with new kit-That may take quite a while to get released. It doesn't work all the time, sometimes it seems like cut scenes have default kit, but these pics were taken in Camp Maxwell during 'Survive' and they seem to be functioning fine.

EDIT-

Some units seem to semi-randomly revert to default kits, but it's MUCH, MUCH rarer than it was with the SMA NATO- I've only seen it with maybe 1-2 men in each mission- Usually Medics, annoyingly, but Medics seem to work in other missions just fine. Also Kerry has a unique helmet so that stays on, even though his body armor, night vision, uniform, equipment and rifle all have the RHS content.

NATO RHS Marine Corps Overhaul released-

Note this is going to ALOT of images from the campaign and showcase missions, I basically spent 2 days trying out random ones to make sure it's functional.

YVyz821.jpg

MARSOC Raider forces at a briefing (replaces the CTRG 'Story' units as well as the Recon and SF units) These guys are all the named CTRG men, and are armed, from left to right- Mk11 7.62 DMR, M2010 MSR (Not used by normal MARSOC, just the Campaign CTRG) , M4A1 Block 2 with M203, M249 SAW custom, and another custom M4A1

dXfuutB.jpg

Captain Miller, now not-Royal-Navy

And it's me, Kerry, in the campaign. Armed with a M4A1 Carbine with RCO, laser/light combo, and with a Berreta M9 as a sidearm.

DRWDefx.jpg

Freefalling MARSOC Raiders- these units are running fully suppressed rifles like most of the Recon/SOF units. Any units with un-suppressed rifles are CTRG.

7jSJjkM.jpg

Mk19 GMG taking a position in a ruined building. No, they do not spawn in the campaign, nor do RHS-USAF vehicles- I tried, and I'll put a pic of the results later.

Marine Javelin and Stingers replace the Titan AA/ AT- Make you you have an assistant for ammo!

tvBJxkX.jpg

Marine Breacher with a Mossberg M590A1 (Long) who I doubt will appear in the campaign, as his unit/classname is very rare, but it could be possible.

I never noticed the pellets were visible.

Showcase- Infantry, you can see the intro text in the corner. Note the Medic/ Combat Life Saver in this mission (and the campaign mission is it based on) bugged in my test and reverted to default.

M27 IAR gunner, with the rest of his fireteam coming up behind.

Because the normal NATO faction does not have squad-level Heavy gunners, M27's are much more common than the other MG's, like the SAW or M240B.

3uJZSQV.jpg

This mod is a total replacement of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation units, bringing them more in line with modern day equipment, weapons and uniforms.
It works in the official Arma 3 Campaign and custom scenarios that use the NATO faction will be using the new faction as well.

The Faction-

NATO soldiers have been changed into a force resembling the United States Marine Corps, with more contemporary weapons such as the M4A1 Carbine replacing the MX rifle. The standard uniform is MARPAT Woodland for all infantry units, with most units having SPC vests and MARPAT combat helmets.

The M27 IAR in 5.56 NATO is the standard autorifleman weapon, giving the individual fireteams more precise fire at longer ranges. Marksman carry a RCO equipped M16A4, and the Marine force as a whole is armed with a mix of M4A1 Carbines and M16A4 Rifles. The M240 Bravo is in the faction as a medium machinegun asset, and the M590 Mossberg shotgun is added for breaching and CQC operations. The M4 carbine with the burst trigger group is used by units that are not combat orientated, such as helicopter pilots and vehicle crewman.

The standard AT weapon is the AT4 launcher, but Javelin and Stinger teams are available as heavy weapon assets replacing the Titan AT/AA. The Standard sidearm for all regular Marine forces is the Berreta M9.

Specialist Elements-

The Recon SF units have been loosely based on the MARSOC Marine Raiders and are equipped differently to the standard line infantry units.
They carry the more compact Daniel Defence Mk18 or M4A1 Block 2 rifle's loaded with Mk316 SOST rounds as standard and have the Mk11 as a DMR, with support from a M249 machinegun. UAV and JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controlers) are intergrated into the SF ground teams to provide CAS and reconnaissance if needed.
They are wearing M81 Woodland Cyre G3 uniforms and MBAV vests. Standard sidearms for the Recon and MARSOC forces is the Glock 17.

The Assault Diver teams have been re-armed with HK416 assault rifles, respresenting a basic SEAL Diver team from SEAL Team 10- it's not as accurate a portrayal as my existing SEAL mod because the Overhaul is attempting to keep some of the original feel to the units.

Combat Patrol squads are similar to the Infantry forces in MARPAT uniforms and SPC vests, but- hey are equipped primarily with M4A1's with supressors for steath missions and have the M14 EBR, M249 SAW's and M240's Bravo's for support.

The CTRG Forces, including Captain Miller, have also been turned into Raider units, carrying slightly more advanced weapons compared to the normal Raider forces. They have the M2010 MSR for sniper support, Mk11's and have more Mk18's instead of M4A1 Block 2's, as it's a more compact rifle.
They are wearing M81 Woodland Cyre G3 uniforms and MBAV vests.

Supports-

NATO Forces retain all their original support assets, from Merkava MBT's, Oshkosh M-ATV MRAPs and many other ground vehicles, with air support from AH-6 and MH-6's, RAH-66 Comanches and CH-47 Chinooks.

I am NOT able to add RHS vehicles into the main game campaign, it breaks missions. If you want to you can easily just use normal RHS vehicles for your own missions instead.

A-10's and FA-18X's provide fixed wing ground attack and air-to-air interdiction, respectively.

Important Notes-

The faction is fully functioning as a total campaign replacement, but it can occasionally have an error where some units are not replaced in the campaign- Usually it's Kerry's unique helmet, sometimes a NATO unit of some kind in your squad, and cutscenes might revert the gear.

'Drawdown 2035' does not work properly- Play the campaign starting from 'Situation Normal' Instead.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, MCC and ALiVE support (faction name BLU_F ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.
It totally replaces the BLUFOR NATO faction in editor, Zeus, ALiVE and all scenarios played when the mod is enabled.
