I have a Gendarme Overhaul that filled that purpose, as a kind of SWAT/ response team until the Tanoan Defence Forces I made to go alongside them arrived to help out, but that's my non-dependency mod (I wanted to have one because some people hate dependencies)

This one is more European and American SWAT/HRT based rather than Pacific, however one of units is based on a Central African response team (from Kenya)

Special Operation Forces Faction mod [SFF] that adds International Police Special Units based on a range of different national Police, SWAT, Hostage Rescue and Response Teams. PSU means Police Special Units, and is a catch-all phrase for these units.

Historical Info-

The idea of an armed specialist Police or non-military unit is not a new one- as far back as the 1920's and 1930's there had been specialist non-miltary units armed with greater weapons than normal police, however the modern concept orginated in the United States with the LAPD's 'SWAT' team in the mid 1960's, and there was a much greater push in European nations for similar teams after the Munich Olympics attack in 1972, which saw the formation of several specific non-military response units due to German legalities preventing the Army from being used against civilians.

The Faction-

This mod adds a range of units based on Police, SWAT and Hostage Rescue teams internationally, covering from basic uniformed patrol Officers to Undercover, Police Response units, SWAT Teams and the like.

SWAT units are dressed in Black, OD and non-military apparel, and are armed with a range of pistol-caliber SMG's such as MP5's, supported by M4A1 Carbines and with SIG 9mm sidearms. They carry a smaller amount of ammuntion and supplies compared to the HRT's, and the SMG's were chosen to make them more effective at close range urban fighting, as well as reducing penetration of the rounds to prevent civilian casualties in the surrounding area.

A SWAT Marksman, who is armed with an accurised 5.56 rifle with match-grade ammo, can be used for spotting targets and for longer-ranged support, as the rest of the SWAT and HRT units are all focused towards close-range urban and city fighting, so lack magnified optics of any kinds.

There is a secondary SWAT Team, Undercover SWAT, who are dressed in civilian clothing underneath their body armor, which can be used for a quick-reaction or response unit, and are based on European specialist police, armed with the German G36 Carbines. Explosive charges are carried by a special 'Breacher' unit in both teams, and can be used to blow open doors when used with a supported door-breaching mod.

The mod is based on a range of nations including Australia, America, United Kingdom, Kenya, Spain and Sweden, but I have intentionally not exactly re-created any particular nation, so you can use them as any nation you like- none of them are specifically named after their real-life base unit.

Specialist Elements-

The Hostage Rescue Teams are the elite units of the faction, and have military-style uniforms, weapons and equipment, distancing them from the SWAT units. The Multicam units are based on the Washington DC district FBI Hostage Rescue Teams on exercises between 2014 and 2017, but there is a flat OD version without Multicam that is more generic and could be used to portray other Hostage Rescue Units as well.

Supports-

Support units for the PSU's include ordinary police units, who are lightly equipped and armed only with sidearms and optional 9MM MP5's, as well as more exotic units such as an Undercover officer, and a unit who represents rural/ forest Specialist Police in a non-Western country, based on African specialist police in remote areas.

Faction has full Editor, Zeus, Task Force Radio and ALiVE support (faction name PSU ) Also supports ACE3 Medical system.

Notes-

I know 'SWAT' is typically an American term, but I have used it in the naming of some teams not based on Americans as a way to differentiate between the more normal/patrol/beat Police units and the HRT, who are the the more militarised and better equipped unit.

So, I think I'm burning out on SOF factions at the moment, so I've been thinking about covering more forgotten Niche forces and time periods.

RCsp043_US_korean_card1000__55420.144682

How would people like some Korean War forces using IFA and FOW content? Is that something people would be interested in? My initial sketchy plan is for US forces, armed primarily with Carbines (M1 because M2 is only in Unsung which is 13GB ATM) as well as Commonwealth (Australian and Canadian) forces against REDFOR Chinese forces, who would use a mix of Japanese and Russian (IFA) equipment.

This sounds like an excellent idea, especially at present we have no content for this era.

I'd love to see Korean war forces, that's one conflict I've always felt that was missing from our communuty.
I'd personally like to see your interpretation of ARVN forces pre 1965 using iron front or faces of war if it would interest you.  Regardless, thanks for your work, I use all your overhauled vanilla factions, they're really well done!

Started on the Korean War stuff.

oilL0hJ.jpg

If anyone knows of any small mods that I could use alongside FOW/IFA that would add more period-correct things, say so. Currently waiting for the FOW team to get back to me with the OK to use their stuff as a dependency.

Basic plan for the US forces- fireteam will be 1 rifleman with M1 Carbine, 1 Grenadier with M1 Garand, Team Leader with Thompson/Carbine and 1 MG with a BAR. The M1 Garands will be fitted with rifle grenades in each fireteam.

M1919's and other supports such as mortars will be in dedicated teams, and I'm thinking of making some CQC based fireteams who have more closer ranged weapons like additional Thompson/Grease Guns and shotguns, as they would be handy for defence.

I think I will be making 2 variants for the US Army forces, like I did with the 75th Rangers, in an alternate uniform- One in a general use uniform and one specifically in winter gear, with jackets, gloves, beanies and the like. Armament might slightly differ but not much.

I'm thinking this is going to be my first faction Pack/ collection bundled into a single mod, so as I make them the US/Winter US, Commonweath and Chinese forces are added in updates rather than separate releases. South Korean forces I am unsure about making right now.

I'll be doing the same with my normal SFF Factions, adding 'Pack' versions, such as 'United States Special Forces' which would be SEALS, MARSOC, Rangers, CAG/Delta, ect you get the idea as a single pack. The point of these would be to cut down on modlists for people who use many of my factions at once. Content in them would be identical to the standalone version.

The US soldiers are now dressed more accurately with Korean era gear (as much as I can) compared to the earlier pictures. I will not be doing separate 'Winter' forces, as gloves, beanies and other cold-weather gear will be standard for US forces, to help them look more different to the WW2 units.

The Rifleman (M1 Garand) in the faction is based on a photo of Pfc. John J. Allen of the 25th Infantry "Tropic Lightning" Division, the 35th Infantry Regiment, E Company,  March 30, Suwon, Korea, 1951.

'Easy Eights' as well as other support assets including APCS, trucks, Jeeps, aircraft and helicopters (H-13, including MASH/Medical version) have been added to the US Forces. I'm unsure if I want to do a Alpha/partial release now or wait until more nations are added so there is people to fight- right now they are in private testing.

UPDATED Unit List- US photos used as a base for ingame units-

101st Airbourne Division, 187th Regimental Combat Team
1st Cavalry Division
2nd (Indian Head) Division, 72nd Heavy Tank Battalion
2nd Infantry Division, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 3rd Battalion
3rd Infantry Division, 15th Regiment, 3rd Battalion
7th Infantry Division, 17th Regimental Combat Team
24th Infantry Divison, 21st Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion
25th Infantry Division, 5th Infantry Regiment
25th Infantry Division, 35th Infantry Regiment

8209th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH)

Commonweath photographs used as a base for ingame units-

1st Commonweath Division, Royal Australian Regiment (RAR), 3rd Battalion
1st Commonwealth Division, 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade

1st Commonwealth Division, 28th Commonwealth Infantry Brigade

1st Battalion Kings Own Scottish Borderers

1st Kings Shropshire Light Infantry

The Lord Strathcona’s Horse, 2nd Armoured Regiment, Royal Canadian Armoured Corps

Both the United States and Royal South African (for Commonweath) Close-Air-Support units were planned, but because of a lack of aircraft were not added- Only aircraft the UN forces have are the H-13 helicopter and C-47 paratrooper plane.

New faction added to the Korean War Forces-

Ethiopian Kagnew Battalion / Ethiopian Expeditionary Force Korea

(based on photos of 1-3 Kagnew, Korea, 1950-1953-the unit rotated with different men but under the same name)

Historical Info-

Ethiopia, as a member of the United Nations, volunteered to deploy infantry forces as part of the United Nations contingent and one battalion of men, known as the Kagnew (after a general and his horse), and early in the war it was a unit under the command of the US 7th Infantry Division, where they were known under the name of EEFK-Ethiopian Expeditionary Force Korea.

Many members of the unit were veterans of WW2, and were supremely well trained, having spent 8+ months training for Korea in mountain ranges before shipping out to fight. Equipment for the EEFK was lacking however, so they used a small amount of Commonweath equipment (usually in reserve) and used WW2 era American gear primarily. During the course of the Korean war the three groups of Kagnew (the men rotated out but remained under the same name) Battalion troops had a sterling reputation for being some one of the best combat units on either side during the war.

While the Ethiopian forces took part in a whole range of engagements during the war, the battle of Yoke-Uncle hill was one of the most impressive. Over the course of the battle one 15 man Kagnew patrol held off an entire Chinese battalion with fire/artillery support from another hill during a night attack, in which the Ethiopians were outnumbered approximately 20 to 1. By dawn they had no ammunition remaining, resorting to hand-to-hand fighting or grenades, and the patrol later confirmed between 40 to 110 Chinese bodies, not counting any captives or bodies that were removed by the Chinese, with estimates having around 3-400 Chinese killed in total.

The Kagnew Battalion was alone as the only unit to have no POW's at the end of hostiles in 1953, as they had a near-fanatical determination to never be captured alive. Their zeal to either win in combat or fight to the death quickly became legendary in the 7th Infantry Division.

Ingame-

The Kagnew Battalion are similarly equipped to the US Army forces, but with higher amounts of M1 Garands and M1 Carbines (lacking grease guns and other SMG's in large numbers as they were not liked compared to M1's and BARs) as well as being a pure infantry force, reliant on M2 mortars or M1919's for fire support, or allied armored vehicles as they have none of their own.

Small amounts of Commonweath equipment, such as MK2 helmets and Lee-Enfields, are used in reserve roles but upon arriving in Korea they shortly standardised on American weaponry, having a particular fondness for the M1 Garand and B.A.R, for which they have additional ammo and teams/squads with compared to the US Army (comparatively, as the US Army is a much large force)

dgttCzt.jpg

Kagnew Battalion M1919 gun. It might be worth noting they have no Anti-Tank assets, and they did not fight against KPA or Chinese armored vehicles in any real numbers.

NZBE1R5.jpg

MASH Helicopter, note wounded on the stretchers with the wind protection plastic cover. 1st person from the stretcher can be weird when looking around, so it's more of a 3rd person or cinematic/style thing (Although I suppose with ACE3, which the factions do support, a passed-out unit could be loaded on)

2rs69LN.jpg

Summer versions of some vehicles added- This the 'Easy Eight' version with additional armor plates and HVSS wide tracks with a Jenga-stack of 17 infantry on the top. This is the best APC ever.

DlyvWCr.jpg

Most of the weapons used by regular (not support like M1919's) infantry are on here- you have M1 Carbines, M1 Garands, BAR's, Grease Guns, Ithaca 37 shotguns, M1911's, Flare Pistols, and Thompson's. I also added M3 Half-Tracks, Jeep's and M8 Greyhounds (as a light/scouting vehicle, it saw a small amount of use)

Next up will be Australia/New Zealand, British and other Commonwealth units.

Canadian forces might be small additional supports due to them having similar armaments to the British (Whereas Australians carried the Owen gun and had some numbers of No 5 Carbines, meaning their armament is different to the normal Commonwealth forces)

The Commonwealth Armoured units/tanks will be based on The Lord Strathcona’s Horse, 2nd Armoured Regiment, as they used sizeable numbers of Easy Eights.

Oh, the public release will be after the North Koreans are finished, so there is some OPFOR for the units to fight. Chinese and possibly South Korean forces, as well as maybe some smaller groups how the Ethiopians were added, will come post-public release.

The factions are all aligned along FOW/IFA standard (INDEP VS OPFOR) and it is ACE3, ALiVE, Zeus, TFAR compatible as usual.

Korean People's Army progress-

yIhdtZS.jpg

A KPA fireteam in front of a scout tank.

The units have some equipment used in the mod (like the Ha-Go, which I have in small numbers as a scout tank) that was actually abandoned from frontline service or destroyed after the Inchon invasion in 1950 by the USMC, just to give them a wider range of kit to pick from and make them a bit more varied.

This also means you can portray the early war period between the KPA and the Republic of Korea/ South Korean forces easier, depending on your squad/unit choices. The weapons used by the KPA are mostly Soviet in origin, but Japanese weapons are also used, as you can see in the pic above the Type 99 is used because it allows rifle grenades, which the Mosin Nagant / M38/M44 (the standard rifles) do not, and also varies the units a bit. Small amounts of German weapons, mostly purchased from post-war captured stock sold by the Soviet Union to allied nations, also show up ingame.

The use of Japanese weapons is because of North Korea's role fighting against the Japanese during WW2 alongside the Chinese military resulted in a considerable amount of captured weapons, which were then used in numbers by the KPA during the war in Korea, particularly the earlier stages before the entry of China into the war.

Some other weaponry notes- PPSH-41's are used both with and without drum magazines in the KPA, and this is something I used to represent the domestically produced 'Type-49' PPSH-41 clone that only supported drum magazines, but stick-fed versions also used by some units. The SKS, while used in the Korean War, is not in IFA/FOW so I have used the SVT-40 as a stand-in, and it's a rather rare weapon ingame.

The KPA (and Chinese forces) will not have a Bazooka equivalent, instead using satchel charges, rifle grenades and AT bundle grenades for taking out armor when it's just infantry, but they have tanks like the T-34-85 as well as static AT guns as well for Anti-Tank work.

This mod adds in units based around the Korean War, from 1950 to 1953. The factions are fully supported by ACE3, AliVE, Task Force Radio, Zeus and Editor. This is an ALPHA, more factions will be added as time goes on.

Historical Info-

The Korean War was the first conflict between the UN/NATO and the Communists at the start of the Cold War, and despite it taking three years and having over 2 million casualties it is often skipped over in favour of WW2 and Vietnam. The war began with the Communist aligned North Korea invading the capitalist South Korea but soon expanded to include a large amount of the United Nations (UN) against North Korea with Chinese and Russian backing.

The Factions-

The mod includes a range of nations, including the United States Army, The Commonwealth, including Canada, Australia, Ethiopia and Britian and South Korean forces against the Korean People's Army (KPA, North Korea) and CCF (People's Volunteer Army of China) and includes a range of infantry, light vehicles, tanks, artillery and helicopters for the factions. Many of the units ingame are based on photographs of the units between 1950 and 1953 in Korea.

The US forces in Korea-

US forces in the mod are based on soldiers of the US Army between 1950 and 1953. Armament is varied, with a large range of WW2 gear still being issued, but newer technology such as H-13 helicopters also playing an important role in the war.

The M1 Carbine and M1 Garand are the standard issue weapons for the Army, with other weapons such as the Grease Gun, Ithaca 37 shotgun and Thompson also being used. The primary support weapons for the faction is the BAR (fireteam level) with higher level support from M1919 machineguns and M2 Mortars, as well as vehicle supports.

Vehicles used by the US Army include trucks and Jeeps, M3 Half-Tracks, M8 Greyhound scout cars, with the primary main battle tank being the M4A3(76)W HVSS Sherman- Nicknamed the 'Easy Eight' the model ingame has additional armor, a larger gun and wider, stronger track compared to earlier models.

The Bell H-13 Sioux is also included, and serves as the primary air transport, scout and medical helicopter for the Army, and ingame there is a medical version used for transoporting men to and from MASH medical treatment centres.

Ethiopian Kagnew Battalion-

Ethiopia, as a member of the United Nations, volunteered to deploy infantry forces as part of the United Nations contingent and one battalion of men, known as the Kagnew (after a general and his horse), and early in the war it was a unit under the command of the US 7th Infantry Division, where they were known under the name of EEFK-Ethiopian Expeditionary Force Korea.

The Kagnew Faction-

The Kagnew Battalion are similarly equipped to the US Army forces, but with higher amounts of M1 Garands and M1 Carbines (lacking grease guns and other SMG's in large numbers as they were not liked compared to M1's and BARs) as well as being a pure infantry force, reliant on M2 mortars or M1919's for fire support, or allied armored vehicles as they have none of their own.

Korean People's Army (North Korean military) -

The forces of North Korea were the primary Communist combatants during the early phases of the war, before the Chinese entered into the war. They had a major advantage over the South Korean forces in armoured vehicles and tanks, as well as very large numbers of infantry. They are armed with a mix of equipment, mostly Soviet WW2 era gear and weapons but also some German and Japanese equipment that was either captured in battle during WW2 or sold to North Korea by Russia after the end of WW2. The KPA do not have infantry-level AT assets, relying on rifle grenades, satchel charges and AT grenades in ambushes for destroying armour as infantry, but they have backing from T-34-85 and light tanks that give them substantial firepower in support for the infantry troops.

Not linked to the SFF/ SFF-R mods, but I recently overhauled the Ghost Recon CROSSCOM mod to my SFF/ SFF-R standards, and added some new stuff and limited Steam Workshop support.

You can find it here-

Hezbollah [SFF-R] Updated

hs4XkxZ.jpg

-Minor file fixes

Notes-

I'm now going to be working on making each OPFOR or INDEP force having a secondary faction, included, that adds the faction as INDEP/OPFOR- what this means it is going to be identical units and gear, but a different side. The reason for this is it allows CSAT, RHS Russia and other OPFOR groups to fight INDEP insurgent forces that were previously OPFOR only. Also, those units above should hopefully be coming in an update, once I sort out some technical problems :(

Poll time.

AAF Overhauled (RHS Version) concept units-

rkkULY4.jpg

From Left-

A- Galil and British DPM (UN helmet optional) (Requires GREF)

B- Flat Tan with Flora and AKM

C- AK74M with Digicam

D- British DPM Crye with Galils or AK's (No GREF)

E- M81 Woodland with AK103. (VSM)

I'm leaning towards A at the moment, but what are your thoughts? I want to avoid making them based on the Greek military with Lizard Camo because I've got that, with G3's, covered in the SFF AAF Overhaul.

What I was going for here is an older 3rd world country feel, using more outdated camo's (or no camo at all, as in B) and older weapons. The AAF in the campaign have an absolutely garbage reputation, and I wanted to make that a bit more visible with their equipment.

B is my vote. That armor clipping into the back always bugged me whenever I saw it in first person, also the outfit works in terms of "low budget" and small military.

I'm leaning more towards A myself. Any thoughts on using GREF's Altis Lizard camo? It's different enough of a pattern to differ from Greek lizard.
