Red Vengeance at Steam

Red Vengeance is the same mission as Hoc Est Bellum. I renamed it to be more descriptive of the story. Red Vengeance takes place 3 months after  Shadow Fall during the aftermath of the CDF victory over the Chedaki. Yakim, an old friend of Shadow Fall's player-character Pytor Tsarev, has reverted to his life of being a mechanic. When presented with a threat to the civilians of Vybor, he and his friend Anton decide to repair an abandoned Russian T-80 tank and take the fight to the CDF!

This is a port of my 2012 Arma 2 mission of the same name.

Features of Hoc Est Bellum:

  • Voice Acting
  • Tank repair sub-tasks at randomly placed locations
  • RHS Mod tank battle
  • Dynamic Snow Storm
  • Holiday Music at the airfield (can be turned off)
  • Random patrols
  • Mission flow is fsm driven
  • Randomly spawn AI civilians during early stage of mission
  • Vehicles are randomly locked with random chance of alarms
  • Chimney smoke
  • Over 1 hour of game play with a mix of combat and stealth for those who don't like reloading a lot

I highly recommend learning how RHS tanks work before attempting this mission, specifically the T-80U. I put some tips into the "Extra Info" section of the map notes, including important keybindings as set in your game.

Change log version 1.2:

  • changed from Autumn to Winter Chernarus which didn't exist when released before
  • changed no trespassing sign from Greek to Czech
  • updated function library
  • switched to Chimney Smoke fsm
  • destroyed Pyotr Tsarev's house for consistency with campaigns
  • disabled damage on spawned civ vehicles to try and avoid random Michael Bay explosions
  • added marker to clarify where refuel repair rearm is located
  • updated repair task to indicate airbase is the objective more clearly
  • decreased snow script to add half the density at twice the time
  • in tandem with snow script, the new CUP snow system will also come down over time, the two combined will make it much more blizzardy
  • changed spawn vehicles to a specific list of vanilla, RDS, and CUP vehicles (will auto-detect RDS and CUP mods and randomly spawn them in first part of the mission)
  • cwa_opendoor sound is missing, replaced it with a custom sound
  • fixed old image reference in debriefing

Change log version 1.1:

  • changed title to Red Vengeance (was Hoc Est Bellum), wanted something more relevant and interesting
  • removed Binoculars from Iosef
  • added fresh market bought oranges (it's Winter)
  • tweaked radio volume in Yakim's workshop
  • switched to larger text conversations

I updated the first post with a download link to Armaholic.

Please note this is a follow-on mission to Shadow Fall, but more like a one-off, kind of like Rogue One is to Star Wars, but it has nothing in common with Rogue One. Except for explosions. There are explosions in this mission, although Rogue One has a lot more explosions, no denying that.

I remember this Camp for the good old days of Arma 2.
Look forward to playing it.

Congrats on your new camp!

This was a lovely piece of action in the Arma 2 times! I remember loving this mission a lot :) Good to see it remade in Arma 3 after quite an extended vacational period :D

Will surely give this a ride on I get some time on my hands!

Thank you kind sirs.

This version has slowly increasing snow fall, and a touch of Xmas theme music at the airfield (mostly Tchaikovsky), and it can be de-activated via radio 0-0-8 (I think). It comes from the tower, so you won't hear it until you get closer.

Just started this classic camp. Not finished yet. Will give more input soon.

Suggesting other players get onboard and give it a try!

PS.
Hi AZ.

I noticed this link of yours: https://github.com/AZCoder/AZC-LIB

Would it be too much trouble to set up an example mission that shows how these scripts work?

Perhaps using multiple players set on various areas of the map, so in editor, I can select that player and see for myself how the script works.
May save you time than having to make a separate example for each and every script you made.
Just an idea.

It's a good idea on the scripts. Currently I'm trying to get some of it a bit more completed first. I just completely rewrote the civilian spawning last week and I plan to revamp the vehicle spawning next. I want to add some dynamic patrol stuff and may end up moving a couple functions around. The ReactiveAI script has been around since I originally wrote this mission a few years ago; I even put a video on YT explaining it. The Invincible script (it's really more of a fake injury simulator) was featured in Dying Ember by Undeceived, and I think I used it in one mission in Shadow Fall. I actually wrote it for GR in 2010 because I had a team member with lots of dialogue throughout a mission, and wanted him to stay alive to speak the lines, LOL. Then there's a bunch of other functions in there, so yeah, I'll see what I can do once I have it a bit more finished up.

Or maybe............you can use that time instead for making some more cool missions?.........lol

I'm sorting out how the next campaign will go, which is why I'm still working on the functions. First mission is half done.

Since CUP v1.30 came out, they moved all CWA objects into a separate mod (CUP CWA). So if you are using the CUP terrains as separate addons, you need all 3 (Core, Terrains, CWA). I have CUP Complete listed above which already includes CWA, just mentioning this for those not using the Complete version because there are CWA objects in the  mission.

I updated this to version 1.1. The most notable change is the name. It was Hoc Est Bellum, something I came up with around 2011, but that was a nonsensical name. Red Vengeance fits in better with my campaign series that it's part of. I also tweaked some volumes and added a couple of oranges to Yakim's work desk, even if it is a cold Winter in Chernarus.

Version 1.2 is released. Primary change is switching to the Chernarus Winter map (CUP). The map did not exist yet when I originally released this, but it was always a Winter mission as seen by the fake snow piles and blizzard script. Also fixed a number of minor things in the change log of first post. Please note that the FPS may take a severe hit in the last part of the mission.
