The Unsung Vietnam War Mod 3.0D - Delta Released !!!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I like very much the unsung mod, it s a very huge and great inmersive mod.
I have some problems trying to retexture  deco, graffitis, platoon Taylor phrases, and other decorations from nam in m1 helmets, And i dont really know what is the problem.  Something i do wrong texturing the .paa, it works in the helo pilot, but it doesnt work out for the m1 helmets of the USMC
In both cases I  work files fron uns headgear.pbo   but  its  strange that heli works   and m1 helmet  dont.
Some guys from france i know they re working the same thing, maybe they can help.
thank U very much

hi Chelito,

first, welcome to the forums

second, thanks for thinking of contributing to the mod

As you're new I will explain the License to you. It is linked here

Nobody is permitted to open the pbo files issued with the mod release.

Doing this will get you into trouble. The license is strict, to protect the mod from people ripping content, and annoying some of our authors (past and present)

So if you are keen to contribute to the mod, you must send a PM to me, sgt_savage or Barden, and we will talk to you about what you would like to do.

After that talk you may be invited to join the team skype group, and may be given access to the unbinarized files, and may even be shown how to work in the tools to solve such problems as you have.

We have a very collaborative group of contributors, and I'm sure you will like them. Meanwhile please do not attempt to edit the content without permission.

cheers

EB

Great work, guys. Loved Unsung in ARMA 2 and  the ARMA 3 version is getting pretty special now.  Can't wait for the next update!

Sent a reply mate, but making clear so it says in the discussion here.

If people wish to contribute work, we are happy to give permission or seek out the developer of the model to get permission and edit a cool texture to add to the mod if they wish to create it, however we DO NOT support opening up files and editing stuff without seeking permission as it doesn't initially affect some of the team members as the much as it does the original creators of the model and that's when it becomes a problem for us since it's our duty to try and protect those who generously contributed in the past, which if you want to edit and create content to contribute then we have to protect yours as well!

Sorry if for some this sounds like a broken record but a lot of mods follow a similar policy and affecting one mod may affect a whole community or genre, but don't let it smite your creative talent, just try to think about other creators. Thanks for reading <3

Hi Eggbeat et al,

First off, I want to state for the record once again, that I think the "Unsung" Vietnam mod is absolutely fantastic

and I and a small group of friends are still having fun with it.

The Duong Island and Da Krong maps absolutely rock! I've left the others availlable in the editor alone as they just

don't impart to me the "feel" of Vietnam. But that's due to them being leftovers from Arma 2 days, and hell, maybe

even the original Arma?

Anyway, I stand before the Unsung Court to plead my case. That being: Please, please, remove those extremely

annoying voices one constantly hears, especially when in the arsenal screen. They're driving me insane. If I hear that

yokel say "Did he say anything else?" one more time, I'm takin' a .45 to my brainpan.

Is there anyway at all in the "Delta" version to shut that off? ie: maybe a magic script line I could put somewhere?

Or maybe a .pbo that could be made availlable which replaces that sound file(s) with just dead air?

When I first started playing and editing using Unsung, the banter was interesting and fun to listen to. But after

spending literally two hundred hours in the editor and hearing it, it has worn thin.

As "George" once hollered in one of the "Seinfeld" episodes: "Serentiy Now!"

What sayeth The Court Of Unsung, Gods of Mods ?

Best regards,

   Odd

Understood Lieutenant, I have the .paa just for me. But I'm still working on new decorations for the m1 helmet, and decorations on the Huey Helicopter. If you need my help, I am at your disposal.

regards

Try this pbo in a separate mod folder for your Singleplayer gaming pleasure: http://tetet.de/arma/arma3/Download/unsung/ttt_rugdsai.pbo

Hi TeTeT,

Thank you very much. But... (there's always a "but", right?) I never play singleplayer and would like to use this for cooperative type

multiplayer. Is it "single player only" useable?

I doubt it works in arbitrary missions where you enter arsenal. The PBO works for the Tutorial->Arsenal though. If you want to disable the voices, add

RUG_DSAI_TerminalDistance = -1;

to your mission. See https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Event_Scripts for possible options.

Thank you once again, TeTeT,

I very much appreciate your spending your time and effort in getting me pointed in the right direction.

I'll give this a shot. I think I can paste that text into a script file and then have it execute with the init.sqf .

Edited to add:

It was even simpler than that! Opening the properties for the armoury/arsenal, I noted it had an "init" space in it.

Pasting your line (below) removed 'em! Oh man, you rock, TeTeT. Thanks a ton.

RUG_DSAI_TerminalDistance = -1;

Best regards, Odd

Any ETA for when the weapon sounds will be fixed? (as in most mods sounds got bugged after BI's weapon sound update earlier this year which causes weapons to only be heard when your'e close to them, step away a few metres and they go very silent, makes it hard to hear where the enemy is shooting from + ruins immersion quite a bit).

(I do not envy the ones who have to fix it considering the amount of weapons in this mod though).

Sad to hear it :( I wish I had any knowledge on how to fix it, I would be happy to help if I did. Can't someone get advice from other mods who has done it? (RHS and CUP I belive fixed it for example?) or is it fixing all the sounds far too time-consuming?

we all have our specialisms, and basically we have nobody who can code and mix the sounds for unsung.

It's a broad community, I am 100% positive if asked, someone will come forward. We all want to see this mod thrive after all. Maybe we can ask around, cooperation between different authors can only be a positive thing.

I laid all the base sounds down on all the weapons but they are missing the tails and sound shaders etc. If someone would add these to the coding I believe they will be the most authentic sounds you would hear since they are recorded from the actual weapon they belong to.

But alas , coding is not my skill set and therefore is what it is for now. Hopefully with this next release on steam "May" have someone come forward to add this coding / new tail sounds ect. I just hope they don't intend to replace my base sounds I have been working on for years.

And for all those going on about the DSAI chatter, Tet has removed it from the arsenal screen. It was put in to give you directional awareness which I think works particularly well in the thick environment. Unfortunately there are only a select number of voice files and if you play the mod long enough you will hear them all.
