Turkey Coup D'Etat

Recommended Posts

A pawn who won't listen, won't adapt to common values and picks fights with everyone against the wishes of it's master when it feels like it.

What a pawn indeed ...

NATOs a bit of a joke since the cold war ended anyways. Spending most of its budget looking for things to justify its existence.

A pawn on an old chessboard, with half the pieces missing

Sources on Twitter saying Germany turned Erdo away now he's headed for London

I heard on Dutch tv that Italian media reported that he was headed for Rome, so I think a lot of rumours about him going into exile are mere rumours. Considering the amount of support he still seems to have he might return to Turkey provided he can land without being detained right away. Once the masses are out he's more or less safe among them.

Helicopter is reported to have carried the officers behind the coup. Army withdrawing from strategic positions in the cities as well as the airport which has been occupied by loyalists, Erdogan expected to land there during the night.

Yeah this coup is done for.

If anyone had wanted a regime change they should have supported it while the army still had considerable control that Erdogan subsequently minimized in later years. Now it's too late, the propaganda machine of the regime has had far too much time to condition the population to believe that for Erdogan to fall would mean the end of Turkey similar to what Hitler spun.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if this has been orchestrated by Erdogan to flush out and remove the last remnants of disloyal officers within the army. After this his mandate will know no bounds through his status as a demi-god.

If they really had wanted a chance their first action should have been to liquidate Erdogan. Once people realized that he was never coming back it might have swayed more parts of the armed forces to side with them. Would be a huge gamble as to how people would react but the approach they ended up using could only really have this outcome considering the masses of religious extremists that he can count on. Really to me it starts to look more and more like controlled cleaning of the house where the regime was aware of and controlled the situation at every step. Just one helicopter was shot down, the one carrying the officers responsible for the coup (what are the odds of that) while gunships were shooting up Ankara and Istanbul with air defence assets apparently loyal to the regime doing nothing. The masses have shown unlimited loyalty to Erdogan as did the parts of the armed forces that are controlled by people he put in place, parts of the army can be cleansed so that now it will be 100% loyal to the regime and he can push through legislation against anyone that sides against him without people even daring to protest it for fear of being branded a traitor by a now virtually unanimous support for the regime. He couldn't have asked for anything better than this coup at this time. It's just too perfect to be purely coincidental.

This putsh attemp is already reported als failed. German TV is stopping livestream and returns to normal propaganda and desiformation habit

Seems like large parts of Police and military do not support the coup.

Still ongoing firefight in Istanbul as the puschist still don't give in.

Well they have nothing to loose now anyway.

You very well may be right, he did state it was a good time to "clean up" the military and that "Turkey is not the old Turkey".

U.S. urges support of Turkey government as world watches coup attempt

The United States called on all parties in Turkey to support President Tayyip Erdogan's government against a coup attempt as world leaders expressed concern about the upheaval in a NATO member country that bridges Europe and the Middle East.

"The President and Secretary agreed that all parties in Turkey should support the democratically-elected government of Turkey, show restraint, and avoid any violence or bloodshed," the White House said in a statement.

Turkey is a key ally for Washington which has often pointed to the country as a good example of a free-market democracy in the Muslim world, even though it has a poor record on freedom of expression.

European Council President Donald Tusk.....

"Turkey is a key partner for the European Union.

The EU fully supports the democratically elected government, the institutions of the country and the rule of law,"

Tusk said at regional summit in Mongolia.

Kemalism 0 - 1 Muslim brotherhood

Now Erdogan appears as a defender of democracy. How ironic.

"Turkey's state news agency Anadolu and the NTV news channel both report that 2,745 judges were fired across the country on Saturday.

The decision was taken by the body overseeing judges and prosecutors - the meeting was reportedly held to discuss disciplinary measures against those suspected of having links with alleged coup plotter Fetullah Gulen."

Good step toward a better democracy, to fire judges that don't agree with Erdogan

Looks like lists of people who disagree were ready few weeks ago already.

It looks like this was less of a coup d'etat by the military and more of a coup de grâce by erdogan.

Yeah it sure smells like a false flag, the gunships firing on protesters yet that loyalist F16 firing only on the chopper that was carrying part of the coup officers, suddenly 2700 judges are detained for ties with the coup group(yeah right) and now Erdogan demands that Obama give up Gulen if they are indeed allies. The bullshit on this guy is seen from two galaxies away.

Would surrendered soldiers be treated as POW's and given tribunals to determine innocence or guilt?
Because it appears guilt is being assumed and the punishment (to an extent) carried out before the sentence as photo's of mob justice involving lynching and other physical harms, some causing blood, have surfaced over the course of the day.

Furthermore it appears that a lot of the low ranking soldiers were led to believe they were conducting an excercise (which explains a few things)

Also staged or no I think props must be given to the people who were ballsy enough to not only block the tanks but climb up on them, I even saw footage of civies yanking guns from confused soldiers comandeering the tanks, but they seemed a lot less violent than today.

"This is clearly not some tinpot little coup. The Turkish ambassador was clearly shocked and is taking it very seriously," the diplomat told Reuters as the dinner party broke up.

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-turkey-security-eu-idUSKCN0ZV2NE

The german SPIEGEL did release an article where the consultant of President Erdogan describes the incident  in a report as a "Kamikaze Move" instead of a coup.

One of the major Austrian newspapers "Der Standard" did release an article in which a turkish interviewee describes the coup with skepticism.

-> It is said, that only small groups of Soldiers did capture the TV station or did attack the Presidential Palace.

And allegedly even more absurd was the situation at the airport, just 100 soldiers encounter a multiple higher amount of police forces.

Did you guys read about any information how many soldiers did actually take part in the coup action locally ?

I did hear only about general arrests (~6000) and dismissals of judges/prosecutors. (~3000)

If this coup was for real, then it was the most badly planned coup in the history of mankind. Way too few force behind it, not enough focus on the strategic objectives that matter.

Then the already prepared lists for the arrest immediatelly after the coup, Erdogan himself praising it as a gift of god to "clean" the country, and openly toying with the idea to introduce the death penalty.

This smells like a Turkish version of the Reichstag fire if you ask me....
