From China Virtual Military Engineers: VME PLA mod for ArmA3

Recommended Posts

Better!  :)  Managed to use the "normal shirt" model and it works pretty well even though the RVMAT isn't 100%.  Since it is going to be covered in gear I think it is pretty good considering...  Now time to map some gear textures and populate the different forces :)

Glad you were able to get the "After" looking good that will help a bunch when using and identifying the troops in the field.

"Wing Loong" UAV, based on the Predator.  Size based on public information... slightly smaller than the Predator.  Tested and works w/ the new UAV terminal operator  :)

More variations of the EQ-2050... new hard top from scratch.  Looking to employ it for different models such as HQ, mortar carrier, AA, etc.

Mucking about with the new additions... uniform, boonie hats, vests, helmets and other goodies.  Still working on the RVMAT for the vest... still too bright but it is in game and looking better.

Any new kinds of helos to be in this pack?  The Chinese has quite a cool bunch of gadgets that fly...

More goodies.  PLZ-05 Arty works perfectly, even for the larger 200km2 maps being made.  PGZ-07 35mm AAA also works great.  I got these RVMAT's TOO dark but that provides a baseline from which I can work!

I'm using a new way to animate the pod doors, so in this case the SAM doors on the sides will animate on/off when that round is fired off.  Works better than the proxy solution which doesn't lend itself well to vehicles like this that aren't going to utilize dynamic loadouts

Quickly nearing the end of all the ground units.  I have some more ground unit variations to add based on the original vehicles.  After all that we can focus on the air vehicles.  Those are certainly going to be post-Jets to ensure they are fully fleshed-out with the new features (dynamic loadouts!) and enhanced radar capabilities.

Hey pook. I would like to ask you how do you port all these things to A3. I mean which method or way you use to do it. Thanks

best regards DonbassCZ

Do you plan on adding UH-60s? The PLA has about 20 in service.

They don't use UH-60's.  They have a FEW Sikorsky S-70 which are the baseline non-military helicopter that the UH-60 was derived from.  UH-60 is a Western designation.

And... "maybe".  :)

S-70, potato...

They do look quite good in that green, though.

Pook you sir are doing a great job with this; it is my sincere hope that the VME crew makes an update to their mod pretty soon. I can live without the jets for right now but a few helos sure would be nice to see and would round out my 15th PLA faction nicely.

I'm also very impressed with the speed at which you've delivered these progress reports. I've been dying to pit the RHS USMC against the PLA in the South Pacific, and with this and the new carrier it's a very exciting time!

So, is this pretty much your mod now? I'm certainly not complaining, it's just that VME haven't spoken in awhile.

We aim to please :)  Note that most of the work these past few months have simply been A2 > A3 additions of the existing models from the A1/A2 timeframe.  "Most"... there has definitely been new stuff added, and integration w/ other things like the SAM pack, but w/o the baseline stuff it wouldn't have happened.  Tedious crap like adding the physx is the big time suck for the updates.  It is fortunate the other camo patterns were present as it was surprisingly easy to implement.

Already have one... lol

(to be honest, not really sure how soon this will be implemented...)

Well, then Liaoning is a Kuznetsov-class carrier, and actually the only one besides the actual Adrimal Kuznetsov.

Well to be technical... here is what I have understood based on my online research regarding the carriers:

Kuz is a "smaller than US carrier" sized AC and is the only functional Russian AC in existence.  "Functional" is translated differently depending on where you read the details... they allegedly have a flotilla of support vehicles follow them around the ocean just in case the break down on the water  :)  Smaller as in half-sized... apparently the carrier design had to be built around locality considerations since it has to fit through certain bottlenecks that have always been a problem for Russia... unlike for example US where the spanning coastline cannot be contested by other countries.  So it is in a class in-between carrier and LHD sized for this discussion.

The Varyag was to be the 2nd vessel of this class.  They laid the keel but never completed the carrier.  China this unfinished keel and are finishing it themselves.  It was transported on a large barge vessel to the Chinese shipyard (not sure where).  Perhaps it was the Li-Key Shipyards (props if you know that movie reference!)

China is building their own "completely indigenous" AC based on the Russian design.  This will be their 2nd functional AC and as I understand it the third in the world based on that design.

Ulyanovsk is a larger carrier but not as large as the US carriers... I've read what appears to be conflicting info.... I read that Russia started but never finished due to budgetary and logistical considerations.  Or they started it and cancelled it shortly afterward, or they completed the carrier but never put it into service.  Last I read the Uly was purchased by a private corporation in China and is being used as a floating hotel/casino/resort of some sort.

Visually the carriers are nearly identical, albeit some dimensions would be different.  All have the "ski jump" front end since making functional catapults seems to be as difficult in the real world as it is in the virtual world :)

The 3D model you see there is named the Ulyanovsk and it is the basic shell and walkable deck.  I've posted on this before.  Its INIT script is still evolving.  I can walk the deck, ski jump, etc. and even touch-and-go but it needs some work... lots of work :)    Whether the carrier dimensions are correct is debatable.  I have no intentions of altering the carrier model dimensions but I do plan to add the essentials such as INIT script that works regardless of the 3D editor (sorry I refuse to use the word "3Den")... also working air defenses and a rudimentary support system such as deployable boats, respawn on deck, etc. for release.  So it will be some time before I get it working to the point it is "worthy" of release.  Also those textures need some RVMAT work as they are obviously washed out.  work work work
