Aebian 18 Posted June 9, 2016 Huy guys, do you know what kind of Light Helicopter the Russian Airforce is using? So to say the counterpart of the Littlebirds. veles-zv 176 Posted June 9, 2016 KA-226 Ka-126 Kazan Ansat-2RC Kazan Ansat Mil-34 closest thing to a littlebird however none are used in russia Mil-2 Eurocopter AS350 Écureui AS355 Ecureuil 2 the Russians never really had a true need to have a light utility helicopter , they offer no advantage besides small size, they have a much shorter range, are less capable in performance such as speed, rate of climb and load capacity. they are much less safe in a combat environment, most light utility helicopters have only one engine and ever since the late 1960 single engine aircraft in the soviet union were not apart of the military contract to the aircraft design bureau because of safety reason this is why the mig-29 and Su-27 and a few previous aircraft have two engines and just not one it offer increase survivability and performance. what they use for recon for other aircraft or artillry strikes is a version of the Mi-24 (without a yakb atleast i think that it did not have any arms)and the Ka-52, for dropping troops off they used the Mi8/17 and would use a low hover, or a low moving hover, fast rope, and for extraction they would do a rolling takeoff at 10kmh, normal landing, or use a personal rope which you hook on to and the helicopter flys off and later lands at in a safe area and you board the helicopter they also have a seated version as well. the Ansat is a border patrol helicopter. the Ka 226 is mostly a civi aircraft dont really know if it is used in service however it is the closest real life thing to the opfor dlc helicopter the Mi-2 was built very early and later given to poland to manufacture for themselves with a licence dont know if russia even used the mi-2 after the mi-8 and mi 6 was introduced. spooky lynx 73 Posted June 26, 2016 Main light choppers are Mi-2 and Ansat, both are used mainly for training duties, all other roles are performed by Mi-8 and Mi-24. From what I know about training helicopter regiment stationed nearby, Mi-2s are used at the beginning for very basic training, after some time student pilots start flying Ansats.
