So I've been working on a blood addon, based on an early build of Zooloo75's own blood addon (with permission ofc ;)). I've branched off completely and it will be following a different outlook. For example, I will not be adding in dismemberment, vapourisation, gibs etc. It will be blood only.

It has directional blood spray based on direction of incoming fire, bleeding for some time after being hit, and a blood flow that occurs when you die (bleedout). I made a short video on the latter:

(Compression has lost a lot of blood texture detail, and the dripping pfx are unclear. It looks much better with the detail :()

 

I need to change some textures (example the bleedout flow texture), add some smearing textures for when units go prone while bleeding, and some proper blood dripping texture. Possibly do some geometry checking so blood doesn't flow under brick walls etc.

 

Let me know what you think :) although I tend not to do requests, I am open to suggestion ;)

Looks great for those who want a bit more subtelty-like you said, no gibbing ;)  How are you getting on putting it into game-and are there any performance issues from something like this?

Hi ineptaphid. I've been making this with performance in mind, I made some simplifications and the animation only occurs when someone is close enough to see it, otherwise it is just placed down. As it currently stands I don't notice any performance drop. If I have huge amounts of AI all fighting then I get some - but I get that regardless without the addon :) I don't notice any addon-related slowdown.

Noice. While the gibbing is amusing I find it has no place in a 'realistic' game like Arma 3. This will be a valued alternative to Blood Lust.

 

Not that I don't love Blood Lust already.

SP for the time being, I'd need to consider a MP method of transmitting effects without creating all objects. So it would be like smoke/explosion pfx, kind of looks the same on each machine but each machine will in reality have small differences.

 

It looks cool but i would slow that down and maybe tone it down at little bit - maybe too much blood going away :P

I ramped it up for the video :) it is less blood, and slower flow. Most of the effect is actually blood spray and bleed (i.e. not flow)

Looks great, thanks for making this.

I was wondering if it's possible to have blood appear on the character at the point of impact instead of the generic texture replacement.

Super impressive! Finally a realistic blood addon :D Any chance you could make a demo vid showing the default rate of bleeding? Will you make it configurable by userconfig?

Rate of bleeding is pretty much arbitrary within very small boundries. However, as more wounds mean more bleeding then the more wounded you are the more bleeding there is. If you get fragged by a grenade and somehow survive, you can leave a huge amount of blood for the duration (check out the poor sod in one of the last screenshots I put up in the first post. I am replacing prone bleed textures with smeared ones so it will look less like a Jackson Pollock :)). Each wound will bleed for a determined but random amount, and will also bleed less as time goes on. So the effect is a diminishing blood trail.

Do you have any plans on publishing this mod in the near future? Sorry for being impatient, but it looks fantastic and I just can't wait to install it :D

Now this does look very interesting indeed.  I agree the volume of blood could be toned down a bit, but the dynamic nature of the flow/spread is awesome.

 

Be keen to understand how this works in a MP dedi server environment, and whether or not everyone sees the same thing.
