Visual Upgrade – Feedback

Recommended Posts

It looks like people are getting really aggressive with the aperture command some of these screenshots look really underexposed or overexposed.

That's the whole point mate - you need to underexpose to get terrain texture detail increased, or overexpose to get object contrast down. There's not currently a happy medium.

Catastrophic effects after Arma3 update 1.60!
On the map Chernarus terrain looks like scrambled eggs on the ground.
Almost white-grey sky, white sandbags, white tent instead of grey, white-green comouflage on the,
power generator, almost white helicopters, and scrambled eggs on the ground
- no matter how I try to configure graphic options - BIG FAILURE!
Terrain, buildings, vehicles, characters, camouflages etc. looks terrible!

Take a look 1.60:

cherna1.jpg

And how it looked in v1.58 before A3 upgrade - BETTER!
They should give us an option to disable all new graphic effects!

Take a look:

I prefer a balanced blend of realism and fantasy because at the end of the day it's a video game. If I wanted 110% realism I go outside.

Right. Do you argue like that as well when talking about flight sims? Dunno about you, but I'm one plane short of actually having a plane, so going outside is rather pointless. As is the Argument.

Send from my tablet, so pardon any autocorrect bollocks

Dude you need to figure out that it is not ARMA 3 devs job to fix PORTED maps. Go to CUP Terrains thread and tell them what is wrong with map and hopefully they will fix it.

On the map Chernarus

Not a part of Arma 3, take it to the relevant mod thread (and remember the mod makers will need to time to iterate and achieve best use of the new lighting).

EDIT: Ninja'd!

That's not what I'm saying you just made that up. Originally Arma 3 had a balanced universal look which pretty much catered to everyone. The new update at best caters to 50% of the community.

have you done a survey that backs that claim up? ;)

  • A Legacy Build Steam branch is available for advanced users. It contains the previous significant main branch version (1.58). It can be used to compare specific changes between major releases. The access code for this branch is: Arma3Legacy158

The old visuals weren't good either. They just fit Altis and Stratis but things didn't look natural.

So why they did not integrated solano's job into the game, If someone likes it USE IT,  if not DO NOT USE IT ! So simple and everyone is happy...

Because graphical injectors are hacks basically... they demand more performance, are not easily tweakable, etc.

Performance was fine, amazing actually, but it combines the work of many programmers and would be extremely difficult (if not impossible) to license for commercial use.

Besides, we don't know where this new implementation might yet take us. It's possible it may eventually yield even better results with or without additions made via an injector (which will always be limited by virtue of the fact it can only perform post processing).

old school never like change, but in reality is just an evolution, and if you don't move with the times, you get left behind reminiscing about how great the past was, instead of looking forwards to the future ;)

this thread is called "visual upgrade - feedback" which covers ONLY the vanilla content (terrain + assets), yet 75% of the posts here cover 3rd party content where BI has NO CONTROL OVER.

instead of posting here, how about you post in the specific 3rd party mod thread(s)?

Yes, ground textures are now more darker, and materials are set to 1,1,1 (RGB) for  a diffuse and ambient.

well this is interesting, after the 1.60 was gone public the groundtextures are way to bright. Looks like the groundtextures are beeing illuminated although Objects (such as Clutter) should cast more shadow or at least make the texture darker, but they simply dont (well, a little bit.-..but not that much that I would consider it satisfactory).

Remember 3rd part terrains problems will be fixed BY THEIR AUTHORS, when proper documentation will be released, as there are lot of changes on-going, there are no documentation yet. Altis & Stratis shadows/lighting looks OK - mid-range textures, night, flares, chemlights need tweaks, but BI developers already noted this, no need to further complains. Grow up people.

Hi, fabio

I understand what do you mean, The main change of the lighting in the scene is a new setup for tone mapping values + config polished for the new HDR work. I am sure we will publish the tutorial for explaining as early as we can.

A question @googlava

what´s about that Tutorial that you´ve been mentioned above. Can we still expect it to have soon?

@Vasily.B

[...]Altis & Stratis shadows/lighting looks OK [...]

The Problem is that they might look OK for Stratis and Altis...although the opinios are splitting in this matter if you ask the community. The Problem that we have (mainly all Terrain Builders) is that the effects present on Stratis are not applying for custom maps.

see this image in excample: http://i.imgur.com/nFVSN8C.jpg

on the left side you see clear shadow/no shadow border. On the right you can see that border as well, but it is brighter than it is supposed to be. And according to the objects present here...we see just A3 Clutter and no CUP Objects that might need tweaks as well.

Yep. This map looks strange that map with old arma 2 buildings looks not as good..... You have map authors saying we just need to get information from bis to fix but users not reading it. Yes bis could of had out sooner info map makers need.but it's Understandable.bis is really really busy right now with apex. Yet people demanding shit that can wait one

Then the other grievance. night is too dark. Doesn't matter that Dev said in this thread night problems have been acknowledged. And will be fixed up. Nope. people not bothered to read anything.

Actual constructive feedback regarding what might help mature the new visuals. Are drown out by that crap and now more crap like my post explaining yet again to people who spamming about acknowledged problems. Too much adhd flying around.

Maio perhaps re open up the general discussion thread on visual. So people can vent or discuss 3Rd party content.

are you just about to create a project that might help to attrackt more people getting ArmA and gaining money on the Dev´s side? Many people getting new to ArmA just because they hear from friends which cool maps have been released by mod authors. Without them BIS would sell way less copies of the game and would earn way less money. Consider ArmA beeing a game just with the Vanilla Maps and vanilla DLC´s without an Editor and without Modding possibilities...what would we have?

So what the mod authors are complaining about is not only the update itself (which definately has it´s pros) it´s the fact that BIS should have been prepared better before rolling out the update and release tweaking tutorials and options to play around with lighting effects prior the release. That would be somethings that would prevent us Mod Authors from complaining. It´s all about communication.

We are not even sure if BIS at all will take a Hand on reported issues, all we know is that the know about it and that they might (or might not) care about...communication...that´s what we´re complaining about.

Yeah but during old-school times, there was a certain vision of the future and a real desire to go for it. So if the present does not match the past desires, it is rejected. The old visual render was not the best but was good enough. It was welcome to be upgraded but not like this.

Don't like the new visuals, sorry. Old was realistic, this is unnatural and looks horrible.
